Chapter 49: UNCHANGEABLE

Chapter 49: UNCHANGEABLE

OH MY GOODNESS.

I snapped at Dujun Sunbae-nim...

To say that Wonyoung was nervous would be an understatement, especially after Yun Dujun asked him to talk in private.

After all, it wouldn’t be nice to fight in front of the children.

That was how the two of them ended up in the bedroom.

An Baekya and Yun Yuhyun were being babysat by Han Myung in the living room.

"Hoobae-nim, you used to listen to me well before."

Right?

Well, I only had one goal back then, and I was willing to do anything to get it.

"I was a broke college student who was desperate to run away from home back then, Sunbae-nim," Wonyoung said. Admittedly, his personality had changed a lot after living in a ’normal’ world as a successful actor. Hence, he needed to justify that change in front of the Alpha. "I had to listen to you, or else, I would have kissed my freedom goodbye."

"So, now that you no longer need my money and protection, you don’t find the need to suck up to me anymore?"

"Yeah, Sunbae-nim. But I’m still going to use you for other things, and that’s one of the reasons why I agreed to be your manager."

"Oh. Like using me when your heat cycle comes?"

Aigoo!

Wonyoung, flustered by what Yun Dujun said, immediately covered his chest with his arms.

Yes, he knew he was overreacting.

But he couldn’t help it!

"W-Why are you suddenly bringing up my heat cycle, Sunbae-nim? How vulgar!"

"Then what else do you need me for?" Yun Dujun asked curiously while tilting his head to one side. "You’re not financially struggling anymore."

"Even so, why would Sunbae-nim think that I would ask for your help during my heat cycle?"

"Well, we’re still married. It wouldn’t be weird if we help each other during your heat cycle and my rut, would it? Just like what we did before."

Huh?

But we were just trying to conceive a baby back then...

Wonyoung blinked his eyes, wondering if he understood it correctly. "Sunbae-nim, you want my help during your rut?"

"Only if you’re willing. I won’t force you."

Oh.

Yeah, I should stop overreacting to every little thing this sunbae says.

However, Wonyoung was curious about one thing.

"How did you manage your rut this past five years, Sunbae-nim? Did you... uh, you know? Ask someone else?"

Yun Dujun furrowed his brows as if he were offended. "Hoobae-nim, why would I do that when we are married?"

"What we have is only a contract marriage, though..."

The Alpha sighed, causing him to shut his mouth instantly.

It’s rare for Sunbae-nim to express his irritation before, but it’s becoming frequent these days.

Was it because of Wonyoung?

"Hoobae-nim, I manage my rut with suppressants— suppressants strong enough to work on a Dominant Alpha like me."

Whew.

Wait, what ’whew?’

Wonyoung was annoyed at himself when he felt relieved for no reason.

Sunbae-nim’s sex life is none of my business since we’re only married on paper.

"I have never been intimate with anyone else other than you, Hoobae-nim."

Just like that, Wonyoung was suddenly put in a good mood.

"If it’s any consolation, I’m the same, Sunbae-nim."

"Of course, you were— you were in a coma for five years, Hoobae-nim," Yun Dujun said bluntly as if he were saying Wonyoung had said something stupid. "I may not have been able to visit you frequently, but I made sure your caretakers then hadn’t touched you inappropriately."

"Thank you, Sunbae-nim."

Yun Dujun just raised an eyebrow, then shook his head. "Hoobae-nim, you’ve really changed."

"For the better or the worse?"

"I’m still trying to figure it out."

"Then I’ll help you decide, Sunbae-nim," Wonyoung said sternly, and then he confessed. "I’m going to use your connections to help An Baekya debut as an actor, Sunbae-nim."

"Huh? You’re going to use me to help An Baekya debut, not yourself?"

"Hmm?"

"Why do you think I hired you as my manager?"

"Because you want to boss me around?"

"Because it’s an opportunity for you to meet the directors, producers, and advertisers that I work with," Yun Dujun said, blatantly ignoring Wonyoung’s (nonsense) answer. "I’m not accepting any new acting projects in the meantime, but I still have a few prior commitments that I need to attend to later. I’ll bring you around then to form your own network. You’re a talented actor, Hoobae-nim. It will be a waste not to showcase it to the world."

Aww.

Wonyoung’s heart swelled with happiness and pride.

It’s always nice to hear someone compliment my acting, especially if it comes from the actor that I admire.

That made him feel giddy.

"I want to see you act again, Hoobae-nim," Yun Dujun said in a serious voice. "So, I want to help you gain the connections you need to enter showbiz. You still want to act, right?"

"Of course, Sunbae-nim," Wonyoung said while nodding. "That’s why I got a part-time job related to acting."

"You have a part-time job? But you’re my manager now."

"It’s just a gig, and it’s happening this weekend. Let me do it, Sunbae-nim."

"Alright. If it’s just a one-time thing, then it should be fine."

"Thank you, Sunbae-nim," Wonyoung said, his voice going softer than usual. "Not just for letting me do the gig, but also for wanting to help me with my acting career. Having said that, I want to prioritize An Baekya’s career. He wants to be a child actor."

"You care so much about that boy."

"I’m not neglecting our Yuhyun in favor of An Baekya," Wonyoung said defensively. "That’s why we’re fighting in the first place. We just got side-tracked."

"Ah, right. We’re ’fighting.’"

"I’m serious, Sunbae-nim," Wonyoung said, putting his hands on his hips. "An Baekya and I won’t move into your house if our Yuhyun isn’t there."

"Alright— let’s move to my other house and live together."

"Huh?"

"Stalkers and reporters often follow me to my penthouse, and that’s the reason why I only bring Yuhyun there on weekends," Yun Dujun explained. "But if we move to the village where my father lives, then we should be fine. The security in that place is tight."

Of course.

After all, Chairman Yun Hyuk lived in the wealthiest neighborhood in Korea.

However...

"Will you be fine, Sunbae-nim?" Wonyoung asked worriedly. "I know living in the same neighborhood as your father doesn’t mean you’ll see them all the time. Even so..."

"Don’t worry, it’s fine," Yun Dujun assured him. "Plus, my mother is banned from entering that neighborhood."

Whew.

Wonyoung was very glad and relieved to hear that.

"Why didn’t I think of this earlier? The safest place for you is where my father lives because my mother isn’t allowed near him and his family," Yun Dujun said, his face beaming quite a bit. "Thank you for defending Yun Yuhyun, Hoobae-nim."

"It’s only natural to do that since it’s not right to scold our Yuhyun for wanting to be with you, Sunbae-nim."

"’Our’ Yuhyun."

"Huh?"

"Haven’t you noticed it, Hoobae-nim?" Yun Dujun asked, flashing Garam one of his rare smiles. "You keep calling our son ’our’ Yuhyun. Are you feeling closer to him now?"

Oh.

Actually, Wonyoung didn’t notice that.

However...

It feels natural to address Yuhyun that way.

Even so...

I’ve hurt Yuhyun in the past. Do I have the right to get close to him this time?

"Take your time, Hoobae-nim," Yun Dujun said softly while patting Wonyoung’s head. "You’re going to spend more time with our Yuhyun from now on, so you two will eventually get closer. That’s all I want."

Oh.

Dujun Sunbae-nim really wants our family to get along.

Wonyoung thought there was nothing wrong with that.

Yun Dujun came from a broken family, so the Alpha probably wanted to have a harmonious family, even if they were only married on paper.

Yeah, children should grow up in a safe and loving family.

Instead of avoiding Yun Yuhyun for hurting him in the past, I should use this chance to make it up to him.

"I’ll try harder, Sunbae-nim," Wonyoung promised. "I’ll be a better father to Yuhyun."

"You should be nicer to me, too," Yun Dujun whined. "I’m still your husband, Hoobae-nim."

Aigoo.

Wonyoung avoided Yun Dujun’s intense gaze. "I’ll be nicer to you once you get your mother to leave me alone, Sunbae-nim."

***

"YOUNG MASTER, would you like me to peel more oranges for you?"

"Yes, Uncle Myung."

An Baekya almost rolled his eyes at Yun Yuhyun, who was now enjoying the oranges that Han Myung peeled for him.

This brat was just crying earlier, but now he’s stuffing his face.

"What?" Yun Yuhyun complained when their eyes met. "If you want to have oranges too, then just say so."

Han Myung immediately asked: "Should I peel you some oranges, sir?"

An Baekya shook his head and was about to tell Han Myung to speak comfortably, but he got interrupted when Bae Wonyoung and Yun Dujun came out of the bedroom.

Both looked satisfied.

Oh, they resolved the problem.

"Yuhyun-ah, we’re all going to live together once we return to Seoul," Bae Wonyoung said cheerfully, his gaze focused on Yun Yuhyun and Yun Yuhyun alone. "Plus, we’re going to move to a new house— we’re going to be neighbors with your grandfather."

Yun Yuhyun gasped, his face beaming. "Really, Papa?"

Bae Wonyoung smiled and nodded.

"You should thank your papa," Yun Dujun said to Yun Yuhyun. "He really wants to be with you, Yuhyun-ah."

Yeah, An Baekya was actually surprised that Bae Wonyoung stood up for Yun Yuhyun.

I thought Appa still felt awkward around Yuhyun.

Yun Yuhyun suddenly blushed as if he were embarrassed, but he quickly walked towards Bae Wonyoung.

And then the unimaginable happened.

Yun Yuhyun shyly hugged Bae Wonyoung’s leg. "T-Thank you, Papa..."

Oh, that much physical contact...

An Baekya fully expected Bae Wonyoung to push Yun Yuhyun.

But that didn’t happen.

In fact, Bae Wonyoung looked like he wanted to hug Yun Yuhyun back.

Shit.

An Baekya clenched his hands tight.

How come Bae Wonyoung couldn’t hate Yun Yuhyun fully?

Appa should get together with Yun Dujun-ssi quickly, so he would have less time for Yun Yuhyun.

***

I DON’T like the look in that child’s eyes.

While his husband and son were having a tender moment, Yun Dujun caught An Baekya looking at Bae Wonyoung and Yun Yuhyun with an unfathomable gaze.

Actually, it was pretty chilling to see that cold look on a child’s face.

Obviously, An Baekya wasn’t happy seeing Bae Wonyoung and Yun Yuhyun getting closer.

As expected, I should send An Baekya away from my family soon.
