Capítulo 717: Chapter 717: Cooking Together
Rong Ling took out a clove of garlic and placed it in front of Li Yufei, then picked up a relatively wide kitchen knife.
He gently held her hand from behind.
Rong Ling: “First, remove the garlic skin, then place it on the cutting board, put the knife on the garlic, and press hard down. You see, the garlic is peeled now.”
Li Yufei was surprised: “It’s that simple? I thought I had to peel it layer by layer slowly.”
Rong Ling: “This method is quicker, but you need to be slower, or you might hurt your hand.”
Li Yufei nodded.
Rong Ling let go of her hand and stood beside her, starting to work on the pork ribs.
Li Yufei quickly finished with the garlic: “Is there anything else that needs chopping?”
Rong Ling smiled and said, “See if there’s anything you like among the vegetables I haven’t put away.”
Li Yufei picked around and finally chose an onion and a tomato.
She wasn’t sure what would go well with pork ribs, but these two colors looked nice and would definitely add to the appetite.
Rong Ling turned his head after finishing busy work.
Li Yufei had cut the tomato beautifully and was about to tackle the onion when he immediately reached out to stop her: “Let me.”
Li Yufei looked at Rong Ling curiously, only to see him soaking the onion in water before starting to cut it.
Li Yufei: “Why cut the onion this way?”
Rong Ling: “This way you won’t cry.”
Li Yufei: “I get it now.”
Rong Ling let go and let her have a go.
Initially, Rong Ling worried that Li Yufei might cut her hand, but gradually he realized that Li Yufei chopped vegetables just as she did anything else—fast, accurate, ruthless, and steady.
After putting the garlic pork ribs in the oven, Rong Ling mysteriously took out a bag of flour.
Li Yufei asked: “Are we going to make dough?”
Rong Ling: “I’m going to make a dish for you that I learned in the United States.”
Li Yufei was instantly interested: “What is it?”
Rong Ling: “Lobster Roll.”
It was something Li Yufei had eaten before; it was quite delicious—tender lobster meat paired with soft bread, complemented by a perfectly balanced sauce with a faint special aroma of basil and parsley; it was both satisfying and tasty.
However, could this be made at home?
The mere construction seemed complex.
Rong Ling poured the flour into the kitchen machine, and when Li Yufei stood beside him, he raised his hand, dabbed a bit of flour, and lightly marked it on Li Yufei’s nose.
Li Yufei stepped back two paces.
Rong Ling chuckled: “Now you’re a painted face, my dear.”
Li Yufei wasn’t very angry; instead, she found it amusing but deliberately put on a stern face: “Who allowed you to do that?”
Rong Ling panicked immediately and restrained his smile: “I’ll help you wipe it off.”
He approached her with a towel.
Li Yufei suddenly leaned forward, getting both hands into the flour, and then cupped Rong Ling’s face, rubbing vigorously.
In an instant, the two were tangled together.
Rong Ling held her waist, his tone with a hint of grievance: “Sister, I only touched you lightly, why are you like this.”
“You’re such a tease,” Li Yufei raised an eyebrow, joking playfully, and added, “You’re feeling wronged now? Who struck first?”
Rong Ling: “Sister, you’re really bad.”
His voice was hoarse, yet his tone was slightly coquettish upwards, his gaze full of affection.
Li Yufei worried that if they continued, lunch would turn into dinner, so she immediately let him go.
She stood aside and cleared her throat: “I’m, I’m a bit hungry now, can you keep cooking?”
Rong Ling laughed lightly: “As you command, my dear wife.”
Li Yufei had never seen anyone cook.
From childhood to adulthood, all her meals were prepared by chefs.
This was her first time seeing someone she’s intimately connected with cook up close.
There was an inexplicable sense of satisfaction in her heart.
This might be the happiness belonging to ordinary people that she had never experienced before.
She had never looked forward to a lunch like this.
Very soon.
Rong Ling prepared three dishes.
Garlic pork ribs, lobster roll, and creamy mushroom soup.
All had a somewhat Western-style preparation.
After Li Yufei sat down, she tried a sip of the creamy soup, delicate freshness with thick cream, slightly sticky, mushroom and shredded chicken flavors blended perfectly, the mushroom size was just right, and the shredded chicken was tender and not tough.
Rong Ling said: “I’ve just started learning the cuisine here, it might not be as good as Chinese food, but some of the ingredients are unavailable here, making it hard to cook Chinese food.”
Li Yufei shook her head: “It’s alright; this is already very delicious.”
Rong Ling: “Really?”
Li Yufei: “Of course, it is.”
Rong Ling laughed again.
He felt he had been smiling a lot today.
So, he was happy.
Just not sure if Li Yufei felt happy.
After the meal, they didn’t go out.
Rong Ling had also bought butter and baking flour, so the two began making dessert at home while consulting recipes.
Li Yufei had to admit, there are things in this world that she isn’t good at, like cooking.
At home, eggs were beaten by the chef, but here she had to beat them herself.
If not careful, pieces of shell would fall into the mix.
It’s usually fine, but when making desserts, eggs often need to blend with the flour, and there weren’t many bowls at home.
Li Yufei stared at the eggs in her hand quite worriedly.
Suddenly.
Rong Ling came to her side, gently holding her hands: “Try cracking another one.”
Li Yufei: “You’re holding my hands but not helping? Do you want me to waste another egg?”
Rong Ling: “Just try it.”
Li Yufei cracked another egg.
For some reason, this time she did it perfectly—the egg went smoothly into the flour, and there was no shell.
Li Yufei was astonished: “Why?”
Clearly, he hadn’t done anything but hold her hand.
Rong Ling whispered next to her ear: “It’s magic.”
Li Yufei laughed: “Love’s magic?”
Rong Ling: “As long as I’m by your side, any difficulty in this world can be solved; this is the magic of happiness.”
Li Yufei was slightly stunned, looking at her hands tightly held by Rong Ling, she couldn’t help but zone out.
This kind of happiness is just like the couple on the bike.
The simplest and easiest to have, yet she had never had it before.
Never.
Not even Du Shaoheng had made her feel this kind of ultimate happiness.
Yet, acquiring this kind of happiness is effortless.
Rong Ling: “Because I’m by your side, this happiness will never disappear, will never be hard to get, and I will deliver it to your hands every day.”
Li Yufei: “Rong Ling…”
Rong Ling: “Hmm?”
Li Yufei: “I rarely say I love you, don’t I?”
Rong Ling kissed her earlobe: “I know, even if you don’t say it, I know.”
He thought that the dessert might not be done after all.
He wanted to do something else right now.
Rong Ling turned and helped her wipe the sticky egg liquid from her hands, saying: “But still, I’d like to hear you say you love me every day.”
