Chapter 718: Chapter 718: Shooting Incident
Li Yufei couldn’t handle Rong Ling’s intentionally lowered, deeply emotional, and slightly aggrieved voice.
She said, "I love you."
Only then was Rong Ling satisfied. He held her for a while before stepping back half a step and handing her a small dough ball.
The two of them made a large plate of cookies, leaving some at home. Because they were handmade, any leftovers would spoil if not eaten quickly since they lacked preservatives. So, Li Yufei suggested Rong Ling take some to school; it would be a good excuse for them to go for a walk.
Rong Ling was more than willing. He took Li Yufei to the university and casually distributed the cookies.
An American male student dressed in trendy brands took a box of cookies and exclaimed in surprise, "Rong, I didn’t expect you to know how to make cookies?!"
This student was called Morgan.
Rong Ling was not fond of socializing.
However, Morgan was a natural socialite. He could chat with anyone and loved inviting everyone to his place for parties. Whenever he wanted to throw a party, he could easily gather over twenty people.
Rong Ling smiled, "My girlfriend and I made them."
Morgan looked at Li Yufei and proactively extended his hand, "I’m Morgan, nice to meet you."
Li Yufei shook his hand reservedly and introduced herself simply.
After a brief chat with Rong Ling, Morgan suddenly changed the topic, "Maybe you two would like to join us for the electronic music festival? There are some super exciting performances today!"
Rong Ling: "Electronic music festival?"
Morgan threw an arm around his shoulder, "YEP! A lot of people will be there, and there’s even a band from your country! So, how about it?"
Rong Ling looked at Li Yufei to seek her opinion.
Li Yufei had never been to an electronic music festival.
She didn’t really understand the things young people liked, but Morgan was truly enthusiastic, with his big eyes full of expectation.
She wasn’t very interested, but seeing that Rong Ling seemed somewhat intrigued, she said, "If you want to go, I’ll come with you."
She had never been to a music festival before, after all.
Rong Ling hadn’t expected her to agree, "If you don’t want to go, we can go somewhere else."
Li Yufei: "I’m rarely free, and I’d like to try something new."
Rong Ling smiled, "Alright."
Morgan looked at Rong Ling as if he had discovered a new continent, and said in amazement, "You actually smiled. This is the first time I’ve ever seen you smile!"
Rong Ling: "..."
Morgan pointed to his face and said to Li Yufei, "Hey, did you know? Since I’ve known him, I’ve never seen him smile! Never! Turns out he can smile!"
Li Yufei chuckled, "Where is the music festival?"
Morgan: "Did you drive?"
Li Yufei nodded, "Yes."
Morgan: "My car is in front. You follow me; we’ll drive there—it’s not far."
The "not far" Morgan referred to was about eight kilometers. It wasn’t exactly the downtown area, although it was somewhat removed from the city center.
At the entrance to the music festival, many people were already checking tickets.
Morgan held many tickets in his hand and distributed them to his friends.
Li Yufei received a ticket and was amazed by the sea of people present.
There were so many people here.
After getting the tickets, they smoothly entered the venue.
The stage for the music festival was set up on a wide lawn. At the center of the stage, the DJ booth was ready, and a DJ, with headphones on, was spinning records to warm up the crowd.
At that time, most of the audience had already arrived, swaying to the rhythm of the warm-up music.
Li Yufei was somewhat unaccustomed to such a noisy environment.
She had never participated in such an event before. Everywhere she looked, there were too many people, and her ears were enveloped by the loud music.
She prided herself on not having much musical talent, let alone an appreciation for this trendy electronic music style.
The two of them stood amidst the enthusiastic crowd like two elegant statues.
Rong Ling turned to see Li Yufei gazing at the stage with the same bewildered expression, especially as she was surrounded by dancing people, yet she remained unmoved, expressionless. He suddenly found it amusing, "Hahaha."
Li Yufei was puzzled for a moment, "Why are you laughing?"
Rong Ling: "You’re cute. Don’t you think you’re out of place here?"
Li Yufei: "Isn’t that also true for you?"
Rong Ling: "Do you find this boring?"
Li Yufei: "I can understand what they’re singing, but... it also seems like I don’t understand."
She spoke with difficulty.
With the background noise and the din of human voices, Rong Ling could only guess what she was saying by reading her lips.
The warm-up ended.
The band took the stage.
The atmosphere instantly reached a climax.
Everyone moved with the music, raising their arms, while fans in front of the stage clung to the fence, frantically shaking their heads and shouting with the music.
The intense sound waves, like an earthquake, shook everyone’s bodies.
Li Yufei felt her eardrums were about to be shattered.
She really wanted to leave, but upon turning around, she saw that reaching the exit would require navigating through a substantial crowd.
Rong Ling noticed her discomfort and asked, "Want to leave?"
Li Yufei: "It’s too loud, my ears feel uncomfortable."
Her hearing was always sensitive, so this deafening music and rapid drum beats were almost destructive to her eardrums.
"So many people, Rong Ling."
Rong Ling knew she wanted to leave, so he tightly held her hand and leaned close to her ear, saying, "Hold onto me."
In the raging background noise, his voice was as pleasant as a clear spring.
She heard it so clearly, she instinctively tightened her grip on his hand.
At that moment, on stage, a red-haired woman, dressed in an eye-catching outfit, led the band onto the stage.
The bass and electric guitar sounds accompanied her husky and sexy voice, intensifying the atmosphere.
Li Yufei had no interest in lingering to listen to her professional singing, letting Rong Ling lead her toward the exit, holding her hand.
Just then—
A gunshot suddenly rang out from the southeastern side of the stage!
Almost instantly.
Rong Ling instinctively held Li Yufei in his arms!
Li Yufei exclaimed in shock, "Did I hear gunshots?"
Rong Ling: "I heard it too."
They looked around, and the people around them were still engrossed in the music.
The brief gunshot went unnoticed by most, and only a portion of the crowd near the southeastern stage heard it too, screaming in terror, though their screams were quickly drowned out by the music.
The audience was all screaming, making it hard to tell which parts of the screams were from excitement and joy, and which were from panic and fear!
The performers on stage were still unaware of what had happened, sweating profusely as they passionately performed.
Most of the crowd was oblivious, still lost in the music, not realizing death was quietly approaching.
So much so, that Li Yufei even questioned whether they had really heard gunshots or if it was just a misperception.
