Capítulo 1597: Chapter 1597 Every Moment with You (8)
Most businesspeople prefer to marry into influential families, so their business dealings can be smooth and unobstructed.
“Look at you, worrying for nothing. Jiajia’s brother is so outstanding; he doesn’t need you to pull strings.” Xiao’s father said.
“We still have to keep up appearances.” Yao’s father replied.
“Uncle, let me pour you some tea.” Yao Jia stood up and poured a cup of Pu’er tea for Xiao’s father.
“Old Xiao, this is the tea Jiajia brought especially.” Xiao’s mother said happily, “Son, come over and sit. You haven’t seen your Uncle Yao for a long time, right? You might not even recognize him.”
“Hello, Uncle Yao.” Xiao Mo came over, greeted him, with little expression on his face.
“Old Xiao, your son is getting more handsome as he grows up, truly a man of distinguished appearance.” Yao’s father couldn’t help but praise.
“Not as good as your son; my son is very disobedient.” Xiao’s father took a sip of the Pu’er tea that Yao Jia had poured for him.
“Mine’s also disobedient, but kids grow up, and you must be more open-minded.” Yao’s father said, “Jiajia isn’t obedient either, right? Xiao Mo, doesn’t she often cause trouble for you at the company?”
“No, Jiajia is quite good.” Xiao Mo said calmly and gently, “If her performance wasn’t good, I wouldn’t have promoted her.”
Yao’s father said, “I heard about the promotion, thank you on Jiajia’s behalf.”
Yao Jia was frustrated inside but couldn’t show it. Xiao Mo was good at maintaining appearances, making everyone think he promoted her because he fancied her.
Only she knew that sending her to Z City was purely because she was an eyesore.
“No need to be so polite, Uncle Yao.” Xiao Mo maintained his outward composure.
“We’re all family here, no need to differentiate between families.” Xiao’s father was very enthusiastic, “You must stay for dinner tonight; it’s been so long since we last saw you. If you don’t stay for dinner, it would be disrespectful to me.”
Yao’s father nodded, “Just as long as we don’t bother you.”
Xiao’s father handed a cigarette to Yao’s father, and they started reminiscing about the old days.
They had been friends for many years, though Yao’s father was in the military, so they didn’t get to meet often.
Xiao’s mother chatted with Yao Jia, while Xiao Mo stood up and said, “I’ll check in the kitchen, make sure they prepare a few more dishes.”
“Go ahead, go ahead.” Xiao’s father waved his hand, “The braised shrimp you made last night was good; make another serving tonight so your Uncle Yao and Jiajia can try it.”
“Alright.” Xiao Mo responded, turning to walk towards the kitchen.
Yao Jia was staring in surprise, exclaiming, “Auntie, when did Brother Xiao Mo learn to cook?”
“I’m curious about that too.” Xiao’s mother said, “Maybe he learned by himself when he had nothing else to do.”
She didn’t mention it, after all, both Xiao’s mother and father liked Yao Jia and preferred her as a daughter-in-law.
As for the girl Xiao Mo was pursuing, they pretended she didn’t exist until there was clarity.
Yao Jia wondered, Xiao Mo was so busy, how could he have spare time?
There was only one possibility—he was changing for Xia Chuqing.
It seems Xiao Mo truly cares about Xia Chuqing.
“Auntie, Brother Xiao Mo is admired by many in the Group. If people knew he could cook, they’d admire him even more.” Yao Jia said with a smile.
“Really? A lot of people in the Group like him?”
“Yes, Auntie, your son is so handsome and also the Group’s deputy manager. It’s not just the girls; many boys admire him too.”
Xiao’s mother laughed happily, since she enjoyed people praising her son.
“Wouldn’t there be a lot of girls pursuing him in the Group?” Xiao’s mother asked with genuine interest, as she normally didn’t inquire about Xiao Mo’s work.
“Absolutely, I’ve heard the line of admirers stretches from the first floor to the top floor of the Group.”
“Then, Jiajia… do you have any interest in Xiao Mo?” Xiao’s mother asked tentatively.
“I… I don’t think I’d rank high enough.” Yao Jia shyly lowered her head.
“That shouldn’t be hard, with your uncle and me, we’ll help you cut in line.”
“Auntie, you’re really good at joking.” Yao Jia laughed as well.
“I’m not joking; I’m serious. My son isn’t quite perceptive. So many girls chasing him, and yet he hasn’t brought a single girl home.” Xiao’s mother sighed.
Yao Jia felt a stirring in her heart, realizing Xiao Mo hadn’t mentioned Xia Chuqing to his parents yet.
Perhaps Xiao Mo only has a slight interest in Xia Chuqing; men often seek novelty, and once that’s gone, he will see who truly suits him.
“Auntie, don’t worry, Brother Xiao Mo is probably just too picky.”
“How can I not worry, he’s already thirty-two and now another year is passing. Can you say I shouldn’t hurry?” Xiao’s mother said, “Jiajia, if you honestly like him, pursue him. Auntie will support you.”
“Auntie…” Yao Jia said, embarrassedly lowering her head.
“No problem, your uncle and I both really like you.” Xiao’s mother patted her hand, her eyes full of eagerness.
“I’ll… I’ll try, but I feel Brother Xiao Mo doesn’t like me very much.” Yao Jia said softly, “There are many young girls at the Group pestering him, they are younger, prettier, and more cunning than I am…”
“Really?” Xiao’s mother felt the situation was serious, “Is he maybe entangled with some vixen?”
“Speaking of vixens, there actually is one, a real provocateur.”
Yao Jia sat closer to Xiao’s mother, lowered her voice, and whispered in her ear.
Xiao’s mother saw the situation as more serious, frowned, and said, “Really? I haven’t ever inquired about these things. Jiajia, tell me about it.”
She knew that both Yao Jia and Xiao Mo worked at Shen Group headquarters before.
“Well, I’m not really comfortable saying, I don’t like badmouthing people behind their backs.” Yao Jia hesitated.
“No problem, I won’t tell Xiao Mo. It’s just between us, let me as his mother know what’s happening.” Xiao’s mother’s expression was earnest.
“Auntie, please don’t say it was me, otherwise if Brother Xio Mo finds out, he’ll dislike me.”
“He wouldn’t dare.” Xiao’s mother said, “Go on.”
“There’s a new intern who was assigned to Brother Xiao Mo’s team and pushed out Xiao Mo’s previous secretary, Lin. Now it’s winter, yet she’s still wearing low-cut shirts and black stockings every day. Recently, there was some discussion on the internal forum about this, people calling her a vixen.”
“How did Xiao Mo react?”
“Brother Xiao Mo seems not to mind… it’s actually human nature; after all, he’s a normal man.”
“How shameless is that? Wearing black stockings in this weather?” Xiao’s mother said indignantly.
“She’s only been here a short while, but taking advantage of working in Brother Xiao Mo’s office, she’s extremely arrogant. Last time Leilei went to bring me some food and saw her, she even argued with Leilei.” Yao Jia said.
“Really?”
“You can ask Leilei, she only accidentally bumped into her.”
“What’s her name?”
“Xia Chuqing.” Yao Jia said quietly, “Speaking of which, you may recognize her.”
Xiao’s mother shook her head, “I haven’t heard this name before.”
