Chapter 147: Chapter 147: Promise To Destroy
Yue Ning walked down the quiet hallway, stopping one of the staff to ask where Yun Li was.
After getting the directions, Yue Ning headed to the suite.
She knocked on the door, and only walked in when she heard a confirmation.
"Lili," she called tentatively before stepping inside.
The room was dimly lit, soft light pooling over Yun Li on the sofa. She had changed out of her wedding gown into a simple silk nightgown, her long black hair falling loosely down her back.
"Ning Ning, you are here." Yun Li said with a smile. "Have a seat."
Yue Ning took a seat beside Yun Li.
"Lili, you have to be careful," she warned softly.
Yun Li’s brows drew slightly together. "Is it because of what happened today?"
Yue Ning nodded, biting her lip. The pure expression on her best friend’s face made her chest tighten.
"Ning Ning," Yun Li called out after a few seconds, breaking Yue Ning’s thought process.
"Hmm?" Yue Ning turned to her with a confused expression.
"What’s on your mind?" Yun Li asked worriedly. "You seem out of sorts."
Yue Ning held her hands. "Lili, you have to be wary of your mother-in-law." She warned carefully.
Yun Li’s brows furrowed. She knew she got bad vibes from Madam He. But Yue Ning was speaking so... seriously. It caused her to feel goosebumps.
Suppressing the fear in her heart, she asked. "Why do you say that, Ning Ning?"
Yue Ning hesitated, then said quietly, "What happened tonight wasn’t an accident. It was meant for either you or He Yuchen."
"What?" Yun Li’s eyes widened, looking at Yue Ning who had a serious look. "What are you trying to say? Yuchen or I?"
Yue Ning nodded. "I know you might not believe me, but this is what happened..."
She then went on to explain what had transpired during the reception.
When she was done, Yun Li had her lips parted open. Her heartbeat raced. "Is what you are saying the truth?"
Yue Ning nodded slowly, watching her shocked expression.
"Madam He... I know she didn’t like me... but I didn’t expect that she would do something like this." Yun Li stuttered, her eyes losing focus.
Yue Ning sighed. "No one can truly see what’s in another person’s heart."
"My advice to you today would be to be wary of her, and if you sense something wrong, don’t hesitate to let me know."
"Why don’t we tell He Yuchen?" Yun Li suggested.
Yue Ning shook her head without hesitation. "I have seen the interaction between He Yuchen and his mother, he trusts her so much. He won’t believe a word."
Yun Li bit her lips. Yue Ning’s words were right. But what could they do?
"Just watch out for yourself. If she does anything strange, tell me immediately," Yue Ning said quietly.
Yun Li remained silent. She had never seen Yue Ning this serious. It was definitely a serious issue.
"I will," she nodded.
Yue Ning exhaled, glad that she had explained things to her best friend.
’It is a wise move you made. Madam He would stop at nothing to have her revenge. I can feel it.’
Yue Ning’s breath hitched. She had become a target.

The next morning, Madam He finally ’regained consciousness.’
Everyone was present in her suite as they watched the doctor attend to her.
"What is wrong? Why are you all staring at me that way?"
He Yuchen was the first to step forward. He took a seat beside her on the bed.
Yue Ning’s sharp eyes caught the brief flash of disgust across Madam He’s face before she masked it with a smile.
"Mom, are you okay?" He Yuchen asked, his clear eyes reflecting his worry. "You collapsed after having that drink."
Madam He pretended to be surprised as her hand went straight to her mouth. "How could that have happened?"
"She’s a good actress," Yun Li whispered into Yue Ning’s ear. Yue Ning nodded faintly.
"I knew something was wrong with that drink," Madam He whispered with her head lowered.
Father He’s ears perked up, then questioned. "What do you mean, Dear?"
Madam He smiled softly, her gaze sweeping over everyone present in the room, but lingered on Yue Ning for a few seconds.
"I only felt dizzy after the drink. Everything else seems to be a blur afterwards." She answered.
He Yuchen clenched his fingers, exclaiming. "I knew it! "
"I wanted to have those glasses tested in the forensic lab. Unfortunately, they had all been cleared away and there were no signs." He Yuchen’s tone carried deep regret.
"But I won’t give up. I’ll find whoever dared to harm you." He vowed.
Finally, Madam He’s expression cracked. She forced a smile on her face as she held He Yuchen’s arms.
"I am fine now, aren’t I?" She chuckled awkwardly. "There is no need for you to carry out such tests." She tried to dissuade him.
"What you should be focused on now is your honeymoon with your wife. Don’t let my matters bother you."
Yue Ning and Yun Li exchanged glances, unspoken questions passing between them.
Father He stepped forward. "He Yuchen, your mother is right." He then continued, "You both should focus on your honeymoon."
He Yuchen turned to Yun Li who had a soft smile on her face.
"Alright, I need to freshen up. You all should leave." Madam He dismissed them with a wave of her hand.
They all left one after the other, the last being Yue Ning. As she stepped out, she felt the weight of a glare burn into her back. She didn’t need to turn to know it came from Madam He.
She exhaled quietly and walked out.
Inside the suite, Madam He’s lips curved into a faint, sinister smile.
"It’s only a matter of time, Miss Yue," she murmured. "When I strike, you’ll never see it coming."
Outside, the corridor had fallen silent. Yue Ning met Huo Feng waiting at the end of the hall. He slipped an arm around her shoulder.
"I think we should plan our honeymoon too," he teased lightly. "What do you think?"
Yue Ning looked up at him, a small smile tugging at her lips despite the chill still coiled in her heart.
