Chapter 148: Fate Synchronization

Chapter 148: Chapter 148: Fate Synchronization

Two days had passed since the wedding.

Madam He had been quietly plotting to get rid of Yue Ning, but no opportunity had presented itself yet.

The sun shone brightly that morning. Huo Feng had left for the office, Huo Yan was off to college, and Yue Ning... remained alone at the villa.

She sat cross-legged on her bed, gazing at the novels stacked neatly beside her.

"System," she called softly.

’Yes, Host. I’m here,’ the familiar voice replied.

"I have so many questions to ask you." She twirled a lock of hair between her fingers. "Would you be willing to answer them?"

’Always. That’s why I exist — to assist you.’

"I just remembered something," she said thoughtfully. "One of the rewards from my last mission was +5% Trust. What exactly does that mean?"

For a moment, the system went silent. Then, the familiar white holographic panel flickered to life before her.

The interface shifted, revealing a bar Yue Ning had never seen before. Her eyes narrowed — then widened in shock.

System’s Trust in Host: 40%

"What? You don’t trust me fully?" Yue Ning’s voice rose in disbelief, irritation coloring her tone.

’Calm down, Host,’ the system urged. ’This is how I was programmed.’

’As you complete missions, my trust level in you increases. It’s a gradual process.’

Then, almost to itself, the system muttered, ’That reward shouldn’t have been exposed so soon...’

Yue Ning’s eyes deepened, and she snorted. It was confusing to her. The system didn’t have full trust in her. How could that be?

"May I see my stats?" She changed the topic, unwilling to discuss trust issues with it.

Soon, the panel changed and her stats appeared.

Name: Yue Ning

Type: Transmigrator

Level: Intermediate

Total Missions Completed: Eleven

Total Missions Failed: One

Points: 15000 Exp / 70000 Exp

Skills: Business Skills (Level 2) Perception Skills (Level 2) Emotional Influence, Basic Martial arts skills and Tear-evoking skills

Items: Facial cream

"Wait, how did I get 15000 points?" Yue Ning inquired, her eyes widening slightly.

’You made sure to complete novels, there were extra points added without a notification.’

Yue Ning nodded happily. This could pass as a compensation for the system’s ’lack of trust’ in her.

Yue Ning’s eyes caught a bar which looked blurry. Her curiosity was piqued and she asked. "What is that?"

’Spend a thousand points to unlock it.’ The system replied simply. If it were a human, Yue Ning was sure it wouldn’t bat an eyelid.

"You... you are impossible," she stammered, her shoulders trembling.

She looked at the blurry bar once more, and it felt like it was calling to her. Something in her told her if she didn’t unlock it now, then she might not be able to do so anymore.

’Host, are you willing to spend the points?’ The system asked mechanically. But if one listened carefully, there was a sense of urging in its tone.

"Fine." Yue Ning gave in. "Unlock it."

[Points deducted: 14000 points left]

Yue Ning’s heart raced. It felt like the unknown was calling out to her.

The holographic panel flickered once, then stabilized.

A faint chime echoed through the room, followed by a new line of text.

Fate Synchronization: 7%

Yue Ning blinked. "Fate synchronization?" she read aloud, her brows knitting.

’It measures how deeply your soul is bound to this world,’ the system explained, its tone noticeably softer. ’Each decision you make, each emotion you feel, they anchor you further to this reality.’

She frowned, her tone carrying just the right amount of hesitation. "You mean... I’m not supposed to be fully connected?"

’When synchronization reaches one hundred percent,’ the system continued, ’you will no longer be able to return to your original world.’

Yue Ning’s breath caught. "So... if I keep living here—"

’You’ll cease to exist as an outsider,’ it finished.

The panel flickered again, but this time, it was longer. A faint static hissed through the air, like a broken radio signal.

’...Error. Statement exceeds permission level...’

The voice turned metallic, fragmented. Then, in a whisper that didn’t sound mechanical at all, it added, ’Forget what you heard, Host.’

Yue Ning froze.

But before she could respond, the interface blinked out completely, leaving only her reflection in the blank screen.

Her pulse raced. Forget? No, she couldn’t.

Because for the first time since she’d entered this world... she wasn’t sure if the system was protecting her or hiding something from her.

Suddenly, the holographic panel vanished.

She bit her lips and left the bed. Fate Synchronization. Statement exceeds permission level. All these words sounded in her mind, and confusion swirled in her mind.

"System, system." She called out consecutively, but there was no response.

She took a deep breath. "I think I need a walk."

She walked into the closet, took some clothes, and walked into the bathroom. A few minutes later, she walked out dressed in a white T-shirt and blue jeans. She was also putting on sneakers.

She took a deep breath before walking to the vanity table. She looked at the mirror, her reflection staring back at her. Her expression was calm, but her mind was uneasy.

When she walked out of the room, she bumped into one of the maids who was surprised to see her dressed up.

"Mistress, are you heading out? Do I need to ask the driver to prepare a car for you?"

Yue Ning shook her head. "No, I just want to take a walk."

---------------------

The afternoon breeze brushed against her cheeks as Yue Ning walked past the fountain and toward the main gates. She greeted the guards with a small nod before stepping outside the villa compound.

The road beyond was quiet. It was a long, tree-lined lane that connected to the main street. Occasionally, a car passed by, but most of the area was serene.

She slipped her hands into her pockets, trying to clear her thoughts.

"Fate Synchronization..." she murmured under her breath. The phrase sounded foreign, yet it weighed heavily on her.

Lost in thought, she didn’t notice the black sedan parked a few meters ahead until its headlights blinked once.

Her steps slowed.

The engine roared to life.

She frowned, tilting her head slightly. "That car—"

Before she could react, the sedan accelerated, its tires screeching against the asphalt.

Her heart lurched.

The world seemed to blur as the car rushed toward her. The system’s voice didn’t respond. No warnings, no time-freeze, no mission alerts. Just silence.

She tried to move, but pain exploded through her side as the impact threw her backward. The sound of shattering glass and metal filled her ears.

Yue Ning hit the pavement hard, blood trickling from the corner of her lips and her forehead.

The sedan didn’t stop immediately. Instead, it slowed only after several meters, the driver’s silhouette visible for a brief second before the car sped away again.

Her vision flickered briefly.

And then, faintly—static buzzed in her head.

’Host... system... rebooting...’

Her lashes fluttered weakly. "You... you took your time."

The voice came again, faint but clearer.

’Emergency recovery initiated. Host vitals are unstable...’

Darkness swallowed her before she could respond.
