Chapter 248: Chapter 248: Backing Has Arrived
Ashley Shaw narrowed her eyes slightly.
"Aren’t you afraid I’ll make the video recording public?"
Sean Langley scoffed.
"Are you trying to scare a three-year-old? My dad said there’s no such thing as automatic cloud uploads of the surveillance! I tell you, when you tried to fool me with that, you should have thought about the consequences of your lie being exposed!"
Ashley Shaw’s face turned pale. Before she could speak, the shop door made a "ding-dong" sound.
A middle-aged man, bearing a resemblance of about sixty to seventy percent to Sean Langley, walked in with a cold, angry expression.
Beside him stood a middle-aged man in a police uniform.
Judging by the epaulettes, he wasn’t an ordinary officer.
Behind them were Wright and several tall men dressed like him.
Standing at the very back were the two officers who had come earlier.
Ashley Shaw’s mind was on high alert.
She quickly deduced that the middle-aged man in the suit at the front must be James Langley, as Sean mentioned.
She hadn’t expected them to arrive so quickly.
Moments ago, she didn’t want to disturb Claire Xavier because Claire already had her hands full.
But looking at the current situation, she knew she had to inform Claire Xavier.
Ashley Shaw took two steps back slowly, using the deputy store manager as cover, and quickly drafted a message on her phone to send to Claire Xavier.
However, before she could finish, the phone in her hand was swiftly taken by a calloused hand.
Ashley Shaw looked up to see it was Wright.
Wright shook the phone in his hand, sneering, "Miss Shaw, I’ll hold onto your phone for now."
As he said this, several other bodyguards came over and forcibly seized the phones from everyone in the shop.
Ashley Shaw quickly strategized her next move, hearing the deputy store manager angrily demand, "What right do you have to take our phones?!"
"On what grounds?"
James Langley chuckled, turning to the man in the police uniform, "Mr. Sutton, why don’t you explain? I’m not very familiar with legal matters."
Mr. Sutton...?
Ashley Shaw instinctively glanced at the man.
She recalled hearing about a Chief Sutton in Westcroft.
Could this be him?
Given Sean’s arrogant attitude, it wasn’t impossible for his father to have influence over Chief Sutton. So this man was likely Chief Sutton himself.
Ashley Shaw’s eyes fell on the door.
She was calculating her chances of suddenly rushing out and escaping from these people.
Because if they truly got their hands on her, it would be difficult to get away.
Chief Sutton spoke, "Ladies and gentlemen, we’re acting in accordance with the law. You’re suspected of illegal detention, so I have the authority to confiscate all your communication devices."
That was the pretext the two officers had used to take them away earlier.
Ashley Shaw’s expression darkened. "We acted in self-defense, and after we restrained them, we immediately called the police. It doesn’t count as illegal detention."
But the other party didn’t even acknowledge her words, turning his head to instruct the two officers, "Go check their computers and delete what needs to be deleted."
"Yes, sir."
The two officers responded and moved towards the computers near the cashier.
The deputy store manager hurried forward to block them, but as soon as he took a step, Wright and another bodyguard stopped him.
"Don’t move! Or you’ll regret it!"
The deputy store manager glared in fury.
They dared to make such threats in front of the officers.
But he reminded himself that they were all the same group.
Cold sweat appeared on the deputy store manager’s forehead.
He instinctively glanced at Ashley Shaw, who was still staring at the door, seemingly focused on something.
With the deputy store manager restrained, the two officers easily reached the cashier’s computer, deleting everything in less than a minute.
"Chief Sutton, everything is deleted."
"Are you sure there’s no backup?"
"None. And indeed, there’s no cloud upload function."
Chief Sutton nodded, wasting no time as he waved his hand, "Take them all away!"
"Yes, sir!"
Sean Langley smirked disdainfully at them.
"What did I say? You’re messing with the wrong guy! You’re doomed today! How dare you treat me like this, I’ll make sure you pay!"
James Langley affectionately ruffled his daughter’s hair.
"In the future, don’t come alone in such situations. Always bring more people with you. Otherwise, you’ll end up getting bullied by anyone."
Sean Langley grinned smugly.
"I got it, Dad. I’ll bring more next time, but I’ve already settled with those I want here, so there won’t be a next time."
James Langley grunted in acknowledgment, turning to thank Chief Sutton.
"Mr. Sutton, thank you so much today. Who knows how bad my daughter would have been bullied by these hooligans without you."
Chief Sutton glanced at Sean and smiled, "I’ve watched young Sean grow up. She calls me Uncle Sutton; I can’t let her call me that for nothing."
Sean’s smile became even more radiant, and she threw a provocative glance at Ashley Shaw.
See? Didn’t I tell you, you can’t mess with me?
What kind of worthless thing dares to lord over her!
The officers and bodyguards weren’t idle, controlling the shop employees one by one.
The employees naturally wouldn’t just submit, immediately resisting.
"No, you can’t just take us!"
"Let go of me!"
"Ashley, what do we do now?"
By this time, Ashley Shaw had already calculated the best escape route, but as soon as the employees called her name, Wright and the others noticed her, quickly approaching.
She steeled herself!
Ashley Shaw gritted her teeth, knocking the person in front of her out of the way and dashed outside.
"Catch her!"
Ashley Shaw reached the door, pushed it open quickly, and just as she was about to exit, she saw three familiar figures approaching outside.
At the front, impeccably dressed in a black suit, was Warren Prescott.
Behind him were Claire Xavier and Cillian Xavier.
Both looked as if they hadn’t slept all night, with dark circles under their eyes.
But the moment they saw her push the door, they immediately gathered their energy and approached quickly with Warren Prescott.
At the same time, Ashley Shaw’s arm was grabbed by Wright.
Wright held one of her arms with one hand, pressing the back of her neck with the other, using a grappling technique to pin her down.
"You still want to run? I’ll tell... ah—"
Before he could finish his sentence, he was kicked straight from the shop entrance back inside.
He skidded across the floor for over half a meter before stopping.
Inside, where Chief Sutton and James Langley had been chatting, everything came to a halt, and they instinctively looked towards the door.
A young girl like Ashley Shaw couldn’t possibly have that much strength; she must have brought in reinforcements.
However, the door of the shop was a frosted automatic door, and now that it was closed, it was hard to make out the scene outside.
Hating Ashley Shaw to the core, Sean Langley was the first to react.
"What are you all standing around for? Go out and get them!"
The bodyguards, ignoring the other store employees, immediately rushed towards the door.
