Chapter 247: Chapter 247: She’s All Bark and No Bite
Sean Langley’s eyes suddenly widened, blazing with fury.
If Wright hadn’t held onto her arm to stop her from rushing over, she really wanted to go up and slap Ashley Shaw again.
"Are you crazy?! You actually want to hit me!"
Never had anyone dared to say this to her.
She was always the one hitting others; no one had any right to hit her.
The kick Ashley Shaw gave her at the store entrance still left her abdomen aching faintly.
Yet even so, she still dared to think of slapping her again?
"You’re asking for it!"
"Do you know who my dad is?"
Ashley Shaw said indifferently, "Didn’t you already say? Your dad is called James Langley. But you’re really strange, always asking others who your dad is. What about you? What skills do you have yourself?"
Sean Langley cursed aloud, "Bitch!"
Ashley Shaw’s expression turned even colder.
"It seems you guys don’t want to resolve this properly, so let’s do it this way. We’ll go with the police, but you know the consequences."
"You—"
"Miss!" Wright firmly held back Sean Langley, who was about to rush over to hit Ashley Shaw, filled with a reminder in his eyes.
Sean Langley knew too well her father couldn’t handle any negative exposure, but she just couldn’t swallow her anger.
Why should Ashley Shaw, a mere delivery girl, speak to her this way?
Reason and anger, in the end, reason prevailed.
She could only muster all her restraint and forcefully swallow her anger.
Seeing that Sean finally calmed down, Wright then turned and apologized to Ashley Shaw—
"Miss Shaw, I’m really sorry, our lady here didn’t mean to curse you... it’s just that the conditions you brought up are really unnecessary."
"We’re all civilized people; there’s no need to resort to violence, don’t you think?"
"How about this? Think about it again, if there’s another condition. I promise I’ll agree to it."
Ashley Shaw raised an eyebrow slightly.
"You have a point, civilized people, there’s no need for violence, I have no personal vendetta against her, and hitting her isn’t necessary."
Wright nodded repeatedly, "Yes, you’re right."
Ashley Shaw showed a satisfied expression.
"I appreciate your attitude, so let’s do it this way: compensate us for the business lost this morning because of her, and guarantee never to appear before us again, and we’ll call it even."
Wright breathed a sigh of relief and was about to hand over the bank card again.
Ashley didn’t take it and said, "I’m not one to take things that don’t belong to me. You buy all the breakfast bread in the shop, and I’ll give you a 20% discount."
Seeing that Ashley was serious and not just putting on an act, Wright immediately asked them to tally the cost.
The assistant manager quickly calculated everything and had the total in less than two minutes.
"It’s a total of twelve hundred and twenty-five. You can just transfer us a thousand."
"Alright, alright." Wright promptly paid the thousand and then asked, "What about the surveillance footage..."
"As long as you don’t come looking for trouble again, I guarantee the footage won’t leak."
Wright hesitated for a moment but still nodded.
"Alright, Miss Shaw, I’ll trust you this once. But if the footage leaks after we leave, don’t blame us for fighting back with everything we’ve got."
"Don’t worry, we don’t want it to come to that either, and I keep my word."
Wright gave Ashley a deep look, said "Alright," and prepared to leave with Sean.
"Wait a minute." Ashley called out to them.
Sean couldn’t help but ask, "What do you want? Haven’t we agreed already? Are you going back on your word?"
Ashley shrugged, "You misunderstood, you bought the bread, remember to take it with you, discounted products don’t include delivery."
Sean clenched her fists tightly.
But she had already endured just now, this time she could endure one last time.
"Wright! Take it all!"
"Yes." Wright replied, lifting the two large bags of breakfast bread packed by the assistant manager and heading out.
The two officers quickly followed and on their way out, they threw an apologetic glance at Ashley.
Ashley just acted like she hadn’t seen it.
She understood their inconsistency, but understanding didn’t mean forgiveness.
Soon all four of them were out of the store.
Ashley looked coldly at the few girls still crouching on the floor.
"Still here?"
The girls snapped out of it and quickly stood up from the ground, scrambling and scurrying away.
The people in the store all breathed a sigh of relief, then gathered around Ashley.
"Ashley, you were amazing! How did you remain so calm even when the sky was falling?"
Ashley suddenly stretched out her hand.
"Help me."
The female employee, confused, quickly supported Ashley.
The next second, all of Ashley’s weight was on the female employee.
Only then did the employee realize Ashley’s legs had gone weak.
"Ashley, you..."
Ashley sat down on a chair with the employee’s help and gave a bitter smile.
"I was just putting on a brave face."
Everyone looked surprised.
"Ashley, you put on a really good show, even we were fooled."
Ashley gave another bitter smile.
"If I hadn’t, do you think they’d have backed off?"
The assistant manager repeated the key word, "Fooled?"
"Yeah." Ashley glanced at the door, making sure there was no one outside, then said, "Our surveillance doesn’t have any kind of automatic cloud upload feature, I made it up."
Surveillance systems with cloud upload functionality haven’t even been developed yet.
It was only a chance encounter after marriage in a past life that she found out such a feature was newly released, and she immediately applied future knowledge.
Because such surveillance systems do exist in the future, she talked about it so convincingly.
The assistant manager’s eyes widened suddenly.
"Weren’t you afraid they’d find out?"
"Which is why I acted so tough. The tougher I acted, the more they’d think I really had such a trump card, and the less they’d suspect me."
The female employee caught on: "No wonder there were so many other ways to solve it, yet you insisted it would only be resolved by fighting back."
The assistant manager couldn’t help but give a thumbs up.
"You really are something."
"If I really were, my legs wouldn’t have given out."
Ashley bent down to massage her ankle and felt a bit better.
But before Ashley could rub it more, the door was suddenly pushed open.
Ashley, along with the assistant manager and others, instinctively looked towards the door.
They saw Sean Langley, who had just left, storming back in with a fierce look.
She was holding the two bags of breakfast bread from earlier.
After entering, she threw the bread hard at Ashley’s feet.
The bread rolled out of the bags instantly, scattering all over the place.
Ashley quickly composed herself, her gaze cold as she stood up from her chair, expressionless.
Strangely, her legs no longer felt weak.
"Do you still have something to say?"
Sean raised her chin high, exuding a completely different aura from when she left.
"Yes, I do, I’m here to settle this properly, just like earlier!"
