Chapter 635: 504 Great Person_2
And all of this, Reiger was yet to know.
After daybreak, he left the room prepared for him by Aurora’s order, entrusted to Koral, and headed to Altoria’s side to check on the fairy girl’s condition.
When Reiger arrived at Altoria’s room, he found that Altoria had already awakened.
For some reason, the fairy girl was sitting on the bed in a daze, not even noticing his knocking or his entrance.
This was—
"Finally lost it, huh?"
Reiger muttered.
It was this mutter that finally elicited a reaction from Altoria.
"You’re the one who’s lost it!" The fairy girl’s pupils began to focus as she looked at Reiger, and said irritably, "How could you say something so insulting the moment you walk in? Isn’t that a bit too much?"
"Well, who told you to look as if your soul had left your body? I knocked so loudly, and you didn’t notice?" Reiger said with his usual demeanor, "What were you thinking about so seriously?"
Altoria was slightly silent.
Seeing this, Reiger, as if seeing nothing, crouched in front of her.
"Surely, you dreamed of yourself in the pan-human history, right?"
Reiger bluntly stated the matter.
"...How did you know again?" Altoria was at first taken aback, then gazed directly at Reiger and said, "How do you know everything?"
"No helping it, you’re too easy to read." Reiger shrugged and said, "It must be because you rang the Pilgrimage Bell and knew of the existence of pan-human history, you’re gradually getting some memories that don’t belong to the current you as you gain power."
Those memories were the memories of King Arthur.
That person was Altoria’s counterpart, roughly equal to Altoria herself. Now that Altoria began to unlock the power of the Paradise Fairy, it’s perhaps unsurprising that she would glimpse the history of another self upon learning of the existence of pan-human history.
Although Reiger did not know the principle behind this, and the original work did not mention it, if the Fairy Eye of the Paradise Fairy could see through lies, then it seemed normal for Altoria, the savior, to see some strange things after her power increased.
"How do you feel now?"
Reiger looked into Altoria’s eyes and asked.
Altoria did not avoid Reiger’s gaze.
If it had been someone else, Altoria would have feigned cheerfulness to brush it off as if nothing was wrong.
But this person was Reiger, and Altoria instinctively wanted to trust him, rely on him, confide in him.
So, Altoria voiced an idea from the heart.
"I, I definitely can’t become such a remarkable person."
Altoria’s tone was extremely complex.
Reiger understood how Altoria felt at this moment.
If someone who didn’t understand Altoria knew her predicament and heard her statement, they would surely think the fairy girl was feeling ashamed of herself, right?
The legendary King Arthur was so strong, so grand, so perfect, and so noble that it would be natural for Altoria to think herself far inferior to the other.
But Reiger could understand that Altoria’s words were not because of how great King Arthur was, but because of the hardships Arthur faced.
Before she pulled the sword of selection and became the king of Britain, she knew her ultimate fate due to the prophecy of the great magician Merlin, yet she chose to become king for the people of Britain.
She had to disguise herself as a male for Britain despite being female and turned herself into the most perfect king.
And after she brought Britain almost miraculous victories and was placed on a pedestal, due to being too perfect, too rational, and so on, she was envied, feared, and ultimately met with betrayal by her Knights of the Round Table, dying in a mountain of corpses and sea of blood.
When Altoria said she couldn’t become such a remarkable person, she meant that she couldn’t be as strong, as hardworking, or as selfless as her.
But—
"Even if you say that, you are still Altoria."
Reiger said to the fairy girl with a slight smile.
"If you grow into the true king who can defeat Morgan, as the prophecy suggested, then perhaps you won’t be inferior to your pan-human history self, right?"
Upon hearing this, Altoria wanted to laugh and say it was impossible.
At least, if it had been the Altoria of the past, she would have denied it hurriedly with a sense of inferiority.
But this time, she merely opened her mouth, looking as if she didn’t know what to say.
Seeing Altoria like this, Reiger was secretly certain in his heart.
"This girl has indeed changed a bit."
Having witnessed the life of her pan-human history self, Altoria’s mindset must have undergone some hidden transformation.
Furthermore, with the Pilgrimage Bell rung, Altoria may have slowly started to become aware of her true mission.
"That’s why I say, this is nowhere near the end."
Reiger sighed quietly to himself.
This world still had many secrets, many truths, many problems unresolved.
At first glance, Altoria and Morgan might seem like rivals headed for confrontation over the throne of Britain, but in fact, the events occurring in this Folklore World are far more serious and weighty than that.
