Chapter 255: Special wolf
Leaf took the lead in teaching the workers on how to get closer to the wolves.
She was a high elf who had a closer relationship to nature than others, so it was easier for her to understand how the wolves felt.
As such, she really made a good wolf trainer.
While this was happening, I took the white wolf and headed to the side.
On the surface, it looked like I had chosen this white wolf to bond with.
But in reality, there was something else that I had to do with this white wolf.
"You’re not a normal wolf, are you?"
The white wolf didn’t seem to react when it heard this, but I didn’t mind since I could see the look that was in its eyes. It was clear that it understood what I was saying, but it was pretending like it didn’t understand anything.
So that was why I suddenly took a step forward towards the white wolf.
When I did so, the white wolf couldn’t help laying down a bit and giving a whimper to show that it was afraid. Since it wasn’t in front of the others, it didn’t actually have to keep up the tough wolf act.
I couldn’t help shaking my head seeing this before saying, "You don’t have anything to be afraid of as long as you answer my questions honestly."
The white wolf seemed to hesitate a bit before slowly giving a nod.
"You’re a magic beast aren’t you?"
The white wolf seemed like it had been caught off guard hearing this and then it seemed like it was hesitating even more. But eventually the white wolf gave a nod in response to show that this was indeed the case.
I wasn’t really surprised since I had already figured that this was the case.
The way that this wolf acted and the difference in coloured furs between it and the other wolves, it was actually quite obvious that it was special.
But the one thing that sold it for me was the mana fluctuations that came from this white wolf.
It was far beyond what a normal wolf should have possessed.
That made it clear that this white wolf possessed some kind of special power.
Or that it was a magic beast.
Magic beasts were like normal beasts, but they were also different.
In this world filled with magic, those that could control mana would be able to use magic and would be known as wizards.
For beasts that could control mana to use magic, they were known as magic beasts.
This white wolf was one of those magic beasts.
"Alright, it’s not as if I’m going to chase you away just because you’re a magic beast. I need to know what you’re capable of so that you don’t accidentally hurt anyone."
Since I had scared the white wolf quite badly, I softened my tone and even petted it on the head as I said this.
The white wolf still had a trace of wariness when it heard this, but it still let me pet it on the head.
After calming down, the white wolf finally showed me what it was capable of.
Just like the white of its fur, it was able to summon a flurry of white snow and ice that covered the area. However, it wasn’t just able to summon this to cover an area in snow.
What the white wolf could do was use ice magic.
That meant that as long as it wanted, the white wolf could create whatever it wanted out of ice.
"Shoot them at me." I said all of a sudden to the surprise of the white wolf.
It seemed like it was unwilling to do this at first, but eventually it shot the icicles that it created at me.
With just a simple flex of my muscles, I shattered all of the icicles that it formed.
Though it didn’t seem surprised that I had shattered the icicles that easily, the white wolf was still disappointed with how I destroyed the icicles without any effort.
After shattering the icicles, I petted the white wolf on the head again before saying, "Don’t be so disappointed, I could tell that your icicles weren’t weak. If it was someone else, they definitely would have struggled dealing with them."
It wasn’t a lie, this white wolf’s ice magic really was powerful.
It seemed like I had gained another useful card.
"From now on, you’ll follow me."
The white wolf seemed surprised to hear this, but then it gave a firm nod in response before nuzzling up against me.
This felt different from the way that it had nuzzled against me previously and I couldn’t help finding it strange.
That was until I noticed something.
There was something missing in between the legs of the white wolf...
When I looked closer, I found that this white wolf wasn’t a male like I thought it was.
Rather, it was a female...
It was surprising that a female had led that wolf pack, but then again...it wasn’t that strange since this white wolf was a special magic beast. It was the strongest of the pack, so I guess it was only natural that it would be the leader of the pack.
Still, the way that this white wolf was pressing up against me.
"Alright, let’s head back."
The white wolf seemed to want to walk right beside me with how it was almost pressed up against me.
I couldn’t stop it from doing this in the end, so we could only awkwardly walk back to where everyone else was.
"Is it just me or do you seem much closer than before?" Vanessa suddenly asked when she saw me come back with the white wolf.
"It’s just your imagination." I said, but...
The white wolf came forward as if she was standing between me and Vanessa.
It was almost as if she was telling her not to come too close...
A bitter smile appeared on my face when I saw her acting like this.
