Chapter 301: The end of Kai being the Hero
"W-What the heck, man! Why did you do that?! Now those pirates will be on our tails! They are known for being vicious and cruel!"
Barry could understand wanting to deal with a threat, but to deliberately have a serious threat chase after them simply because he didn’t run away from a fight was beyond stupid in his opinion.
"So what? Don’t tell me you’re scared."
"No, Kai, I’m not scared, but I’m worried."
"Worried about what?"
"The people."
Kai rolled his eyes. "What about them?"
"The pirates might go after them to get to us!"
"And? Why does that matter?" Kai didn’t see the issue. Sure, people could get hurt, but that wont affect them.
Barry didn’t understand why Kai was being so cruel. He understood Kai wanting to kill bad people, even though he wanted them to be redeemed, but he could never allow innocents to be harmed.
"Aren’t you a hero? Why don’t you care about innocents dying? Where’s your heroism?"
"What do their deaths have to do with me? Tell me, Barry, why aren’t you crying about the families that are starving to death right now? Or the people who are sick and need medicine but cant afford it? What are you doing to help them? You talk about heroism, but you would have been dead if it weren’t for me. I don’t even want to be the hero. I left Sarkylla so I wouldn’t have to deal with that shit, and then your bitch ass goddess asks me to help you because you’re a fucking failure. Wanna save people? Go ahead, but I only help when I want to help, not because I’m obligated to do so. I only care about those who are close to me."
Barry completely disagreed with Kai and wanted to point out his flawed mindset. He did have to admit that he wasn’t doing anything about the people dying from hunger or sickness, but he was doing all he could to stop the demons.
However, Kai was right when he said that Barry would have died if it weren’t for him. He saved Barry’s life a few times and even made him stronger. But still, that was no reason to turn their backs on the innocent.
"And what if it were your friends and family who were in danger. What would you do then?" Barry knew that if he wanted Kai to see his point of view, he needed to strike Kai where it hurts.
"Unlike you, I actually have the power to protect the people I care about." Instantly, Kai purchased an immortality ability and used his transfer ability to give this power to all of his girls.
Then, with Amaya allowing him to, he chopped off her head, only for it to grow back.
"That was so fucking awesome! Do it again!" Amaya yelled with excitement.
"I just made them immortal. And this is after I decked them out with as many protection spells as I could. They get hurt because they want to, not because enemies are strong enough to hurt them. I make them stronger every day as well. And if I know they cant handle a threat, I force them to sit out while sending them to one of my pocket dimensions. I take care of what’s mine."
Barry had no argument for that. He just saw Kai kill Amaya, only for her not to die. He was extremely powerful.
"Not everyone is powerful like you." He argued
Kai chuckled. "And?"
"They wont be able to do the things you do. You have the power to wipe out all the demons in one go, so why don’t you?"
Kai looked Barry directly in the eyes as he opened his mouth to speak. "Because then all of the fun will be gone."
"F-Fun? Is this a game to you?" Now Barry was angry, and he pulled out his sword.
"Put the sword away."
"Answer me."
"No, Barry, this is not a game to me. I simply don’t care what happens to others. That’s all. I didn’t wake up one day and wish to have the power to make the world better or make it into my image. I’d simply enjoy what the world has to offer while doing my own thing, just like what I’m doing right now."
"Y-You don’t deserve to be a hero."
Kai smirked. "You’re right, I don’t." Kai grabbed his soul, ripping out Gracia’s power, giving it back to her. He then pulled out the hero’s sword, then tossed it into Gracia’s power, and it took off with the divine power, going back to its goddess.
"Now I’m just regular Kai, no longer bound to the principles of a higher being. Tell me, oh great hero, how will you punish me for my sins?"
"You’re a failure of a hero! AHH!" Barry attacked Kai to put an end to his tyranny. He wouldn’t allow the image of the hero to be tarnished by someone like Kai.
Unfortunately, that was the worst thing he could have done. Gwen, Amaya, Sasha, Kyana, Nadya, Cornelia, and even Karumi stepped in front of Barry, their weapons drawn and their expressions neutral.
"Make your move, hotshot." Gwen wouldn’t hesitate to strike Barry down. She didn’t care if he was a hero or not.
"I do not wish to fight against you, only Kai." Barry clarified.
"You mess with Kai, then you mess with us. Simple as that." Sasha said as her axe touched Barry’s throat.
Barry looked at Iris and Patty, but they shook their heads, walking closer to Kai.
Barry couldn’t believe what he was seeing. "Don’t tell me you’re siding with them?!"
"We don’t fully agree with his ideology, but he’s the most powerful person we know, and he plans on killing the demon king," Patty explained
"But that’s not all. He can make us stronger. We need strength to accomplish our goals, and if it weren’t for Kai, we would be dead." Iris added
And this was their true feelings. Kai didn’t hypnotize them to like him. He only made it so that they see him as a way to get stronger. He planned on adding them to his extended harem anyway, so this was a nice way to get on his good side in Kai’s opinion.
"Barry, did you know that out of all of the villages we saved, 20% of them were attacked once again by the people we sent to jail? We saved them, only for the evil bastards to come back and kill them all. We never agreed with your no-kill rule when it came to humans. Evil people need to be taken out, permanently." Patty was the one who said this, and it caught Barry off guard.
He lowered his sword and dropped to his knees.
Kai smirked. "That’s right, bitch. Now get in line. We have pirates to kill."
