Chapter 283: Vexical Prime: Short Bout
"This is Spectre Jace," He spoke over the channel as he focused on what he was seeing. The battle had escalated and the angel front the Holy Empire was decapitating one of the vampires while the Talus Mercenaries had taken back control of their building. They were now backing up while focused on the Holy Empire soldiers.
He watched them for a moment before remotely activating the shielding. Protecting them from the Holy Empire enemies. He aimed the sniper at the Holy Empire soldiers and took a few shots. After the second they took cover behind buildings. While the angel moved to the armored vehicle while using those things that made up her wings to block his bullets.
The armored vehicle opened up and she jumped down. He blinked in surprise and then watched as the mech it was using earlier in the day came out of the armored vehicle. Jace put the sniper on his back as he ran to the edge of the roof while looking towards the Holy Empire soldiers.
The mech was moving out of the back of the armored vehicle and pulled a large weapon out of the vehicle. Seems he was right to decide he needed to move to a different building.
"Spectre Jace this is Director Fenrir-"
"Hold on a second." Jace interrupted her as he made a quick channel connection. "Shepard this is Jace. Mine through the floor and get those civilians out of the Talus Mercenary building. I have sufficiently distracted the Holy Empire troops."
"Understood." Was all the confirmation that Shepard gave him before disconnecting.
"Jace, were you just talking with the Union Spymaster?" Director Fenrir asked in surprise.
"Affirmative. Our operations aligned since your last order was to assist civilians." Jace informed her as he grunted and jumped to another building. Just in time too as the roof of the building he was just on was slammed by several bullets from the Holy Empire mech. The building began loudly falling while Jace kept moving but partially turned towards the enemy mech.
Getting a better look at the mech in the process. It appears to be a Knight-class mech, which was the middle ground for mechs. It could be modified to be space capable, but they did not start out that way. This one appears to be building for speed and maneuverability.
Jace aimed the tri-cannon and fired several times. He was aiming wide so he blanketed the area around the mech with cannon shot fire. He was no longer worried about the Talus Mercenary building so he let loose.
The mech adjusted its aim and Jace fired a few shots at the mech hitting it with the first two before it dashed to the side. With visible damage on one of its arm joints and a frontal plate. It fired again at the building that Jace was on. He could hear a whistle as one of the enemy bullets flew over his head.
It probably would not kill him if he got hit. But it would hurt like hell and damage and possibly destroy all of his weapons. "I suppose that tracks. Should we let them leave?"
"They are not the ones wagging an unlawful war. Besides, we have more important things to worry about than a political group." Jace reminded her as he dropped between two buildings but not before firing a more precise shot onto the enemy mech’s path.
The mech disappeared from view as he kicked off the building he jumped off of and went through the wall of a building he jumped towards. He went barreling through the wall using his feet to kick off a table and move through the building. As he moved he could hear the sound of the walls and ground cracking and glass shattering.
He made it only a few feet before the building began collapsing behind him. He could pick out the sound of several explosions so he dashed to the side and jumped out of the building and into the sky above the street. It was a long way down, but it would be better than getting caught up in a collapsing building and having to dig himself out.
He crashed out through the wall and could see down in the direction he had been running from was the same mech from earlier. But its left arm was limp at its side, it seems Jace managed to do critical damage to the mech when he shot it earlier. In its left arm was a single weapon that currently had a magazine dropping from it.
Jace aimed at the weapon and fired a single time as he fell; the cannon bullet zipped through the air and planted itself in the gun. The mech’s gun only slightly jolted but he could see a crack appear along the side of the gun. It appears the mech pilot noticed it as well because they just tossed the gun to the side and then moved to a side street.
Jace slammed into the side of the building but did not have enough force to go through the wall so he just slid down. He slightly kicked the building and landed on a vehicle in the street. The roof of the vehicle caved under his feet as he landed on it.
Jace hopped off of it and looked around warily. "Director Fenrir, it appears Rook managed to get himself captured. He had all of my weapons and gear at the time. Shepard, the Union Spymaster, informed me that the Circle of Yuri were the ones who captured him." Jace began explaining how he could pick up damage as the mech made a path around him. It seems their short bout was done.
"Should we do a full attack, we can weaken them with barrages." Director Fenrir suggested. Jace looked up into the sky and could make out the massive destruction of the enemy space vessels as they were annihilated.
"Negative. They have civilians they kidnapped at each of their bases. Destroy their space craft and ground them. It will drag out the battle on Vexical Prime, but it gives civilians the highest chance of survival." Jace explained as he moved to the direction of the Holy Empire’s base, where the Holy Palace he destroyed was.
"Then I will get a theater of war set up. We will have a chunk of our forces taking the planet back. But we will have to redirect to wage war on multiple fronts. Both the Woltar and the Oda Empire have declared their willingness to join us. But the Oda Empire says they need assistance with one of their planets when we have the chance." Director Fenrir began making a plan in her head, he could almost hear the gears turning. "Aside from the full-on invasion and the massive destruction planetwide. The plan went off successfully."
Jace shook his head, "we can discuss that later. Let’s focus on breaking the enemies and causing them to scatter so we can start escorting civilians off the planet."
