Chapter 282: Vexical Prime: The Vampire
Jace aimed the sniper at the gathering of Holy Empire soldiers and then looked at the mix of mercenaries and Circle of Yuri soldiers that were standing opposite them. It seems the Talus Mercenary was talking with the strangely armored female soldier he had seen before he ran into the mercenaries. The same one that had slayed that off brand vampire.
It seemed the glass from the upper floors had distracted them. He took aim at the enemy mercenaries. Emptying his magazine before switching out to another one. He was not checking to see if his shots killed the targets. But he did see that both groups decided the other side was responsible and started shooting. On the other hand the two vampires hidden among the mercenaries made a line straight toward the winged woman.
As he was shooting he had to jump back grabbing his tri-cannon as he moved. He used a hand that was holding the sniper to move it to his back. While leaning back so the curved sword did not hit him.
He moved back as the Vampire landed on the edge of the roof. Jace aimed the tri-cannon at him. But the vampire looked relaxed and grinned a toothy grin. "Going to rely on your ranged weapons. I thought you empire scum had pride in your knives and armor." It was a provocation. But one that would work fine for him. It would just be a waste of ammunition to try to fight him like that.
Jace took a moment to put the tri-cannon and its ammunition on the ground. He then pulled the sniper off his back and put it on the ground alongside it. He then moved forward and took a stance while pulling out his Spectre Knife. "Never killed a vampire before." Jace informed the enemy as he flipped the knife in his hand.
"And you never will!" The vampire yelled out as his cloak billowed and he leaped forward with a hiss as he swung his curved sword.
Ting!
The sword bounced off his knife and he reached forward with his other hand. Intent on grabbing the vampire and bringing this too close for the vampire to use his sword. It would also bring him in range of his power.
The vampire jumped back with a hiss as he momentarily dematerialized and materialized. He glared at Jace, "what makes you so dangerous that I know I will die if you manage to get your hand on me?" The vampire asked as he pulled out a second sword.
"That is called instincts. I supposed even the undead know to instinctively fear me." Jace chuckled, intent on provoking the vampire.
The vampire stood straighter and gave a slight bow, "my name is Commander Victor Al-Ulman. Might I know your name before we continue?"
Jace raised an eyebrow under his helmet. After a moment of thought he made a decision. He put his knife back in its sheath and had the longsword materialize in his hand. "My name is Spectre Jace, leader of the Cerberus Squad."
"Spectre? Is that a title?" Victor moved sideways along the edge of the roof. Jace moved along the roof, getting closer to the edge of the roof and holding his sword with two hands. He was readying himself to clash with the vampire.
"Spectre means many things." Jace slightly flexed his foot and he was hopping onto the edge of the roof. "But in this case it is a title."
Jace stepped forward doing a diagonal slash with his sword that was stopped short of throwing off his balance. Victor stepped forward, one of his blades sliding along the edge of his sword as he closed the distance.
Jace spun his hips and used the stance to swing back around. Pushing Victor off the side of the building as he closed the distance. But as he flew off the building he kicked the air and Jace could pick up a mass forming under his foot.
Victor walked along the air and Jace had to lean back while grabbing the ground with his boots to avoid being slashed by Victor’s attack. Jace had to swing his sword again as he rolled backwards. Forcing Victor to step back or risk being slashed.
When Jace landed he crouched and jumped forward as Victor landed on the edge of the roof. He leaned back and kicked the wall that acted as the edge of the roof. There was a burst of rocks as it broke apart and Victor was forced to jump to the side.
Jace twisted his body and stabbed forward with his sword. Not a very good use of his sword but it forced him to jump down and off the wall. But Victor did not stop there and after jumping down he jumped back.
"Those movements are inhuman." Victor exclaimed as he readied a position. But they both stopped as the rain suddenly stopped. They stared at each other in surprise for a moment before looking up in the sky to see a massive amount of debris falling through the sky. It parted the clouds as they were covered in flames and it revealed the disaster that had become the atmosphere. Explosions and destroyed ships filled the skies while Jace realized that over the past minute he had been getting a signal from orbit. It appeared that Director Fenrir had returned with the actual subjugation fleet. They probably took so long because they had to get more ships because of the invading fleets from the other countries.
Jace turned his attention back to Victor and leaped forward but Victor jumped back onto the edge of the roof again. "That looks like a problem I cannot avoid. I apologize but this will mark the end of our meeting." He then turned and jumped away, moving as rapidly as he was before.
Jace clicked his tongue and dematerialized his longsword as he picked up his tri-cannon and sniper. He then walked back over to the edge of the roof and picked up the two discarded half used magazines. He then swung his scope over to the Talus Mercenary building while answering the pinging noise he was getting from The Elysium.
