Mysterious Journey

Chapter 9: The Bronze Door Knocker and the Piano Music

Accompanied by Berly, the house-elf, even though Ailiana was extremely interested in the Room of Requirement on the eighth floor of the castle, opposite the tapestry of Barnabas the Barmy being clubbed by trolls, she could only suppress her curiosity and reluctantly follow the normal route for the tour.

If her understanding of the magical world could be brushed aside with her past experiences, then a little girl who had never been to Hogwarts accurately locating a place that most students might not even know until graduation would be a bit too much.

Similarly, there was also the prefects' bathroom on the sixth floor of the castle, in the fourth door to the left of the statue of Boris the Bewildered.

A magnificent chandelier with lit candles cast a warm, soft light into the room. Everything was made of pure white marble, including the sunken bathtub in the middle of the room, which resembled a rectangular swimming pool. Around the tub, there were about a hundred golden taps, each with a handle inlaid with a different colored gemstone. There was also a diving board. The windows were draped with snow-white linen curtains, and a large pile of fluffy white towels was placed in a corner.

As a girl, in Ailiana's imagination, the most ideal and luxurious bathroom template would look something like this.

You must know that when she was in college in her previous life, the insane school authorities designed the bathroom to supply water by swiping a card, and each swipe only lasted for fifteen minutes – can you imagine the desolation of a hand covered in white bubbles, shivering as it reached out the door in the cold winter to extend the time with a student card?!

Only then did Ailiana realize with frustration that if she wasn't a Hogwarts student, she wouldn't be able to enter many secret rooms filled with wonderful magic for a visit.

Whether it was the offices of various teachers, Filch's office, or the library containing 103,000 magic books, they were all magically locked, making it impossible to enter freely. This prevented Ailiana from realizing her idea of borrowing some snacks from the Half-Blood Prince, or seeing the forbidden toys of the magical world's troublemakers.

Oh no, the door to Professor McGonagall's office on the second floor of the castle, above the marble staircase in the entrance hall, was ajar. But Ailiana was still rational enough not to knock – who knew if the dangerous Professor McGonagall would suddenly remember what happened before and take the opportunity to retaliate.

And the empty classrooms were even less meaningful to visit. After all, apart from the potions classroom, in Ailiana's opinion, most classrooms didn't seem to have any difference, just a wooden platform plus a dozen rows of empty desks and chairs.

Of course, even so, Ailiana was already satisfied.

Because even if none of the ghosts appeared, the entire Hogwarts Castle was still full of wonderful magic, everything seemed to be constantly moving, the people in the portraits were constantly visiting each other, and the stairs would move.

The most delightful thing for Ailiana during the whole tour was the Ravenclaw common room, above the Ravenclaw Tower on the west side of the castle, or more precisely, the lovely eagle-shaped bronze knocker.

Just as the founder of the house, Rowena Ravenclaw, upheld, the door to the Ravenclaw common room didn't require a password like the other houses. Anyone who could answer the question correctly could enter at will.

Ailiana stood at the smooth wooden door, knocked, and the eagle's beak on the bronze knocker opened and asked in a gentle voice, "Which came first, the fire or the phoenix?"

It seemed that there weren't too many questions in the question bank, and Ailiana was lucky enough to draw an original question from the original book, "It's a cycle with no beginning."

"Correct answer." As the voice finished speaking, the door creaked open automatically.

However, Ailiana, who had answered correctly, didn't choose to rush inside.

"Dear knocker, may I ask, how do you ensure that the prepared answers to such questions are the only correct solutions?"

Ailiana squinted her eyes cutely and shrugged at the eagle-shaped knocker, "You know, language and words are the easiest to produce multiple meanings, and all idioms can be given new meanings at any time."

"..."

The eagle head opened its mouth but didn't make a sound, but she vaguely felt that there was a magical force examining herself from the knocker in front of her. Obviously, this magical knocker, like the Sorting Hat, had its own consciousness.

Since she came to Hogwarts, she always had to leave something behind, otherwise it would be boring.

The silver-haired loli smiled evilly and said in a very seductive tone, "As far as I know, many math problems usually have a unique objective solution at the basic level."

"Math problems? Simple calculations cannot test a student's intelligence." The eagle-shaped knocker's voice was obviously a little confused.

"Then what about this?"

Ailiana recalled slightly and said in a particularly excited tone, "Put chickens and rabbits in the same cage. Counting from above, there are thirty-five heads. Counting from below, there are ninety-four feet. How many chickens and rabbits are in the cage?"

After a pause, the silver-haired loli continued to add, "Moreover, just by simply changing a few numbers, you can extend an infinite number of interesting questions like this."

"..."

After the eagle-shaped knocker was silent for a few more seconds, it nodded slightly, "You have a point, I have to think about it carefully. Thank you."

After speaking, the knocker stopped talking and turned back into the original bronze sculpture.

She actually succeeded!

Ailiana secretly waved her small fist and turned away happily.

"Berly, I think it's almost time, let's go back."

May God bless this year's Ravenclaw students. However, as long as they are patient enough, they can still count the correct results one by one.

…………

Soon, Ailiana, with a little unknown joy, returned to the eighth floor of the castle with Berly, the house-elf.

"Next, I'm going to see Dumbledore."

Ailiana took a deep breath, looked at the stairs beside the giant stone beast, and was about to walk up.

Suddenly, she found that at the end of the corridor, there seemed to be a classroom that she hadn't entered. It looked like she had accidentally overlooked it when she turned around and left before.

Ailiana curiously looked at the front carefully. In her impression, there shouldn't be any other special scenes on this floor except the Room of Requirement.

Wait, could it be the Room of Requirement?! The silver-haired loli's eyes lit up and asked excitedly.

"Berly, what is that place? Is it..."

"That..."

Berly, walking behind Ailiana, raised his head and looked in the direction of the girl's arm, and replied in a flat tone, "It seems to be an abandoned classroom."

"No, no, I clearly didn't see it just now."

Ailiana shook her head seriously and told herself, and ran towards the classroom without hesitation.

"Eh? Sigh..."

The silver-haired loli hopefully opened the door, looked inside, and her little face suddenly collapsed, letting out a sigh.

Just as Berly said, it was indeed an abandoned classroom.

The wooden desks and chairs were piled messily at the back of the classroom. Judging from the dusty empty bottles and wooden shelves, it seemed that this place had once been used as a potions or herbology classroom.

"Hmm, what's that?"

Ailiana took one last look and was about to turn around and leave when her eyes suddenly stopped.

In the front of the classroom, near the window, there was a uniquely shaped black grand piano.

Unlike the mess at the back of the classroom, judging from the shiny piano lid, someone should regularly come here to play or maintain this expensive piano.

"I didn't expect that there would be a professor at Hogwarts who likes piano? This wasn't mentioned in the original book." Ailiana searched in her memory, and didn't remember which professor at Hogwarts had this hobby.

Ailiana, who was standing at the door, could just see the logo on the side of the piano – Steinway & Sons – logically speaking, in this era, it should only be seen in Germany and the United States, one of the world's top pianos.

And every Steinway handmade piano, for most piano lovers, is no less attractive than drugs are to addicts. From Tokyo to New York, Steinway grand pianos are used in all major international concert halls.

Ailiana couldn't help but play a few virtual notes in the air with her fingers. In her previous life, working in the financial industry, her main way to relieve stress was to play the piano. However, she had only glanced at the Steinway pianos, which cost millions, from afar at concerts.

After a moment of silence, Ailiana suddenly remembered that if she was going to leave Hogwarts forever later, there was one very memorable thing she hadn't done.

"Can I play a song on this piano? And then take me to see Professor Dumbledore."

The girl turned her head and asked Berly, the house-elf behind her.

"I don't think there is any problem, madam." Berly bowed elegantly and replied, raising his arm to lead in the direction of the piano, "Professor Dumbledore has instructed that you can freely visit most of the public areas of the entire school, including touching and using them."

"I see... Thank you."

Ailiana nodded and didn't sit directly in front of the piano. Instead, she walked to the open window first and looked out through the window. Hogwarts' sparkling lake, the castle's ancient and towering towers, the vine-covered corridors by the lake... A trace of angelically pure and satisfied smile appeared on her face, even Berly couldn't help but lose his mind for a few seconds under this bright smile.

Opening the piano lid, sitting on a third of the leather sofa stool, Ailiana straightened her body, placed her feet near the pedals, took a deep breath, and her white and tender fingers slid lightly across the black and white keys, the clear and cold sound like steel beads sprinkling on the ice echoed in the classroom.

She had finally come to Hogwarts, and if there was no classic "Hedwig's Theme", it always felt like something was missing.

After all, using this theme song that runs through the entire Harry Potter series of movies for seventeen years as the end of her Hogwarts journey should be the most appropriate.

"Hedwig's Theme" is not a low difficulty song. Since transmigrating, Ailiana, who had not touched the piano again, thought that she would not be able to complete the difficult sheet music in the later part.

However, as her fingers moved, a magical force seemed to be generated in the castle to support her to continue playing, so that in the second half of the song, Ailiana even closed her eyes directly, and her hands jumped smoothly on the black and white keys with the rhythm.

The entire five-and-a-half-minute song was played flawlessly. She felt like she had transformed into a flying bird, skimming over the calm lake, passing through the vine-covered stone walls, and hovering between Hogwarts' towers, lawns, and squares.

As the last note on the keyboard dissipated in the air, Ailiana breathed a sigh of relief. She felt that this was the most perfect performance she had ever given in her life.

Before she could carefully savor the melody that was still lingering in her ears, a soft applause rang out from behind her.

"Incredibly imaginative music, it's as if I saw sparks erupting from the potion jar."

Ailiana woke up as if from a dream and stood up in a panic, the stool scratching a rustling sound on the wooden floor.

Behind her, an old man wearing a blue wizard robe, tall and thin, with a long silver beard and a pair of bright, azure eyes, appeared at the door of the classroom at some point, applauding with amazement on his face.

"What's the name of this song?"

Albus Dumbledore asked curiously, not knowing why, when he heard this song, he suddenly had a strange feeling – this child, she was born to belong to Hogwarts.

"'Hedwig's Theme', a song about the beginning of dreams and miracles. Thank you for your piano, Professor Dumbledore."

"Oh. To be precise, I'm not good at playing the piano. I'm just helping a friend keep it temporarily." Dumbledore winked nimbly, and a playful look appeared in his half-moon glasses, "If you like it, you can come here to play it anytime. I promise to keep your secret."

Ailiana stood up. On the back of the piano lid, there was a pattern that looked like a triangular eye with a vertical line in the middle of the pupil – she had already understood who the real owner of this piano was when she saw this pattern.

Looking around reluctantly, Ailiana showed a relieved smile. It was time to say goodbye.

She looked calmly at the greatest white wizard in the world, shook her head and said softly, "I'm sorry."
