Chapter 404: Spacewalk! Break Through

Alex looks around, taking in the ruined state of the Presidium.

This looks insane…

“Critical failures detected across all monitored systems,” a voice echoes faintly across the distance.

Turning his head, Alex spots Avira—the Presidium’s VI—still active, though clearly struggling with the situation.

“Please begin emergency evacuation procedures. This is not a drill,” she continues to warn.

“Damn! The Presidium is wrecked. We need to get to the Tower. I bet that is where Saren is heading!” Shepard says, staring off into the distance.

“Careful, Commander! These things are back!” Ashley warns, pointing toward the Dragon’s Teeth in the distance, where several impaled corpses hang in the air.

Alex narrows his eyes, then smirks.

Some of these people are still alive. Not living, but not fully transformed either. I can use this opportunity.

Approaching the Dragon’s Teeth, Alex watches as two of the spikes activate, lowering husks onto the ground. Many others remain inactive, their victims still suspended, because they are yet to be fully transformed into Husks.

He draws his [Executioner’s Blade R2] and swiftly slices into the first husk, killing it in two strikes. He dodges the second’s charge and repeats the motion, ending it just as quickly.

You have dealt 91 damage to Husk

You have dealt 79 damage to Husk

Not done yet, Alex jumps up toward the half-transformed husks still stuck in the spikes and cuts through them one by one. There’s no system message, but he can tell from the feel of the blade: its durability is being restored with every kill, blood gathering on it, unnaturally repairing the blade before his eyes.

After taking down five of them, he checks his weapon with a grin. The [Executioner’s Blade R2] is fully restored.

The rest of the crew, slightly behind him, finally catches up.

“Why did you do that, Alex?! I think that was cruel,” Liara says, clearly disturbed.

“It was the correct choice. We don’t want anyone backstabbing us—they are no longer alive, Liara! They are mindless Reaper weapons,” Garrus replies, Wrex grunting in firm agreement.

“I see… I’m sorry. You’re right,” Liara says at last.

“Good job, Kerber! Let’s move on now, there is no time to lose!” Shepard says, leading the group forward.

The crew enters the elevator leading up to the Citadel Tower.

Alex groans, “I’m getting sick and tired of these fucking elevators. Elevators on the Normandy, elevators on that hellhole planet Liara was researching, elevators on Mars, elevators on Noveria—everywhere on Noveria. Even fucking elevators on Virmire and Ilos. Only place we didn’t see those damn elevators was Eden Prime and Feros, if I remember correctly.”

The crew stares at Alex for a moment. Though no one says anything, they can’t deny he has a point.

“Fine, let’s focus on the important things. We’d better enjoy the ride,” Alex mutters.

As soon as the words leave his mouth, the elevator screeches and halts abruptly, still far from the tower’s top.

“Saren must have locked the elevator! We need to suit up—we’re going outside!”

I hate this bullshit! We’re now walking in fucking space? I hope we don’t get hit by the damn battle outside! I see the Destiny Ascension, the legendary Asari ship, is still engaged with Sovereign and the damn Geth ships.

With no other option, the crew seals their helmets and forcefully opens the elevator door.

Now outside, walking along the side of the tower near the Council chambers, they finally see it—Sovereign.

“That thing is nightmarish,” Alex comments.

Sovereign is hovering directly next to the Citadel Tower, and around it, a huge space fight is going on.

“You missed our encounter with it on Virmire,” Kaidan replies. “This is nothing….”

“Less talking, more moving!” Shepard cuts in, pushing ahead onto the maintenance corridors, which crisscross between the outer wall and the inner structure of the Citadel.

“More Geth!” Tali shouts.

My blade’s restored. These are just small groups—I should play it safe. I need to save my best weapon for Saren.

Alex draws his [Brawler-Pistol] and [Enchanted Runeblade], staying at a safe distance and carefully taking his shots.

You have dealt 41 damage to Geth Shock Trooper

Thanks to their long journey together, Shepard’s squad has become a finely tuned unit. Every member works with precision, using biotics, tech skills, and firepower to efficiently tear through the scattered Geth forces with minimal effort.

Alex continues firing his pistol but holds back, letting the crew handle the bulk of the work. They steadily advance, despite the uneven terrain, with countless structures placed on the outside of the Citadel tower.

But then a Krogan Battlemaster appears—an elite veteran and one of the toughest infantry types they could face.

Alex doesn’t hesitate. He activates [Uzin’s Rage].

Release Rage activated

You have lost 100 HP

STR and AGI + 20 for 10 seconds

Alex charges at the Krogan, activating Thunder Sword mid-run.

You have dealt 213 + 89 = 302 damage to Krogan Battlemaster

You have stunned Krogan Battlemaster

The Krogan is knocked back, dazed. Without wasting time, Alex rushes forward and plunges his blade into the Battlemaster’s skull, driving it through the helmet with brutal force.

You have dealt 187 = 561 damage to Krogan Battlemaster

You have killed Krogan Battlemaster

As the massive enemy drops, Alex quickly retreats, rejoining the others before the Geth can redirect their fire onto him again.

“Good job, Kerber! We need to hurry!” Shepard says.

With his Armor, PHY, and [Drakul’s Vitality R2] providing exceptional HP regeneration, Alex’s lost 100 HP will return in just a few minutes. With his shields, easily able to block chip damage, he can now use his new ring freely without much concern, as his HP will always regenerate.

The team continues pressing forward. Dozens of Geth appear throughout the ascent, but thankfully, never in overwhelming numbers. They arrive only in small squads of three or four, allowing the crew to use their superior coordination and numbers to win each engagement with ease.

As they ascend through the tower, they eventually reach a wide platform. Citadel defense turrets line the edges—meant to protect this very place, but obviously not activated and thus, useless. Suddenly, a Geth Dropship arrives, descending as close to the tower as possible.

The ship opens on one side, deploying wave after wave of Geth troops.

“Tali, Alenko! We need to get these turrets back online! We don’t have time for this, but we can’t handle an endless amount of Geth! Garrus, focus on sniping the ranged units—two on turret duty is enough,” Shepard orders over the comms.

“On it!” Tali replies, sprinting toward one of the turrets.

“I’ll back you up!” Alex says, following her closely.

The two reach a turret, and Tali immediately gets to work with her Omni-tool. While she hacks into the system, Alex notices two Geth Shock Troopers closing in.

He ducks behind the turret, waiting until they come into full view. Then he leaps out, delivering a powerful Thunder Sword strike straight to the head of the first, landing a lucky critical hit.

You have dealt 157 + 72 = 229 x 3 = 687 damage to Geth Shock Trooper

You have destroyed Geth Shock Trooper

As the second Geth raises its weapon, Alex ducks under its aim and slashes low, cutting into its leg, separating it.

You have dealt 61 damage to Geth Shock Trooper

You have crippled Geth Shock Trooper (left leg)

The Geth stumbles and falls. Without hesitation, Alex drives his blade into its head, destroying it cleanly.

You have dealt 133 x 3 = 399 damage to Geth Shock Trooper

You have destroyed Geth Shock Trooper

“Citadel defense turret back online!” Tali announces.

A few seconds later, Kaidan's voice comes through as well, “I’m done as well!”

The reactivated turrets begin firing on the Geth Dropship. Each blast rocks the platform, and the ship starts to falter—but continues deploying Geth until it has dropped ten more units. Finally, critically damaged, it crashes into the platform and explodes violently.

Liara immediately deploys Singularity, pulling many of the Geth into a compact cluster. Garrus and Tali follow up with Overload, tearing into their weakened forms.

From a distance, Alex decides to end it quickly. He fires off a Flying Thundara Sword, releasing a wave of thunder energy at the Geth.

You have dealt 152 damage to Geth Trooper

You have destroyed Geth Trooper

You have dealt 144 damage to Geth Trooper

The few remaining enemies are easily dispatched by Wrex and Shepard, who charge in and clear the field one by one.

Moving on, the group reaches a long stretch of corridor lined with Geth turrets. Not only are they heavily armored, but each is also protected by external Geth-generated shield barriers.

Okay. I got this.

Alex prepares to sprint ahead, but Shepard’s voice rings through the comms:

“No, Kerber! We’re dealing with this my way! I can’t risk you sacrificing yourself! I need you to take down Saren!”

Reluctantly, Alex halts and falls back into formation.

The squad fans out, maintaining a close but staggered spread. They advance carefully under fire, moving between cover and avoiding direct hits. To Alex’s surprise, the turrets’ shields collapse within seconds under combined attacks. Warp, Overload, and concentrated firepower pierce through the defenses in just moments.

This... is this easy mode? Is it because I kept everyone alive? Not a single squad member died—Ashley and Kaidan both made it as well! I feel the entire team is united! They are in the zone. Anyway, no time to complain!

Drawing his pistol, Alex joins the coordinated barrage, adding his shots to the mix.

After destroying the final turret, the team charges forward behind Shepard.

Another Krogan Battlemaster appears at the end of the path.

Just like before, Alex activates [Uzin’s Rage].

Release Rage activated

You have lost 100 HP

STR and AGI + 20 for 10 seconds

He dashes forward, using Thunder Sword to slash through the Krogan’s arm and into his midsection.

You have dealt 199 + 81 = 280 damage to Krogan Battlemaster

You have crippled Krogan Battlemaster (left arm)

The Krogan screams as his armor begins to fail.

Alex finishes him off by driving his blade through the weakened plate, piercing straight into the vital systems.

You have dealt 155 damage to Krogan Battlemaster

You have killed Krogan Battlemaster

Meanwhile, Shepard takes down a Geth Juggernaut solo. She disables its shields with Overload, follows with Warp, and fires several precise rounds into the same spot on its helmet, eventually shattering it.

With Sovereign closer and closer, the entire team starts sprinting.

Tali and Wrex struggle to keep pace, nearly exhausted, but they all reach the top of the tower.

Shepard notices a nearby hatch and pulls it open, holding it for the others.

“Good job, everyone! Now we have to make it count. This is the battle we’ve been fighting for! We can end it all!”

They step through and find themselves at the Citadel Tower. The majestic council chamber now looks like a vision of hell—fires everywhere, trees burning, emergency lights barely able to provide enough light, and the air thick with smoke. The silence is eerie, broken only by their footsteps.

Fighting through a few scattered Geth, the squad finally reaches the heart of the tower, where a single figure stands in the center of the council platform.

“Saren!” Shepard shouts.
