Chapter 1547: Chapter 1547: Sir, We Are Not Familiar (9)
Ten days passed quickly, and as soon as she returned, she hurried to make up for the classes she had missed.
Xia Chuqing thought Song Heng might not know about her family situation, so she told him earnestly.
To her surprise, Song Heng seemed slightly stunned, not expecting Xia Chuqing to know about it.
He had to pretend to be ignorant about it, lest Xia Chuqing scold him.
“Chuqing, don’t be upset. My home is yours. If you face any difficulties, come to Brother Heng!” Song Heng patted his chest, eyes full of determination.
After deceiving Xia Chuqing for so long with Xiao Mo, he felt somewhat… guilty.
Even though he no longer had any connection with that swindler Xiao Mo, the guilt lingered.
“Brother Heng… Why are you so good to me…” Xia Chuqing sniffed and lay her head on his shoulder.
Song Heng felt quite guilty, but, well, the deception had happened, and two and a half years had passed anyway.
“Are you ready for your final exams? Have you bought your ticket home? Do you want to come back with me?” Song Heng asked with concern.
“I won’t be going back. I’ve sent my resume to a company. If I get the interview, I’ll intern during the winter break,” Xia Chuqing replied. “I’ve already completed all my school credits, so if nothing important comes up next semester, I won’t return to France.”
“That… works too.” Song Heng couldn’t decide on these matters. He still had some time before he finished his studies in Paris.
Xia Chuqing talked to him more about her internship plans. In school, they were closer; she increasingly felt Song Heng was like her own brother.
The two chatted for quite a while, and Xia Chuqing stopped crying.
Seeing her mood improve, Song Heng took her to a Western restaurant for dinner.
On the day of the final exams, Xia Chuqing breathed a sigh of relief, silently packing up in her dorm room.
“Documents, notes, plush toys…” Xia Chuqing muttered to herself while packing, all things she needed to bring home.
While packing, the phone rang.
“Hello, is this Miss Xia Chuqing?”
“Hello, yes, it is.”
“I’m from the Human Resources Department of Shen Group. We have reviewed your resume and would like to schedule an interview for the afternoon after tomorrow. Will you be available?”
Xia Chuqing thought for a moment. Yes, she was free the day after tomorrow.
She quickly nodded, “I am available.”
“Great, I’ll send you the interview time shortly.”
“Alright, thank you,” Xia Chuqing replied, feeling quite excited, though it was somewhat within expectations. She received a scholarship every year, had good grades, and a solid resume.
However, her luck was pretty good; she would be back in China by then.
Thinking about this, her mood lifted, and she packed her things quicker.
While rummaging through the bottom of the trunk, Xia Chuqing inadvertently saw clothes Xiao Mo had bought her two years ago.
The clothes were neatly pressed at the bottom of the trunk. Ever since she brought them to Paris, she hadn’t worn them.
She knew they would stay at the trunk’s bottom, but for some reason, she never threw them away.
Looking at them now, the clothes were really ugly—typical guy aesthetic with neither sexiness nor charm.
Xia Chuqing found it amusing yet annoying and decided to keep the clothes tucked away at the bottom of the trunk.
When it was time to go to the airport, Song Heng was the one to see her off. He was staying for a few more days before returning home, as he always liked spending more time in Paris.
“Don’t be too upset. Take good care of yourself in C City. Also… by the way, check if the university has changed,” Song Heng waved at her.
Xia Chuqing laughed, “Check in on Sister Yingying for you, won’t you?”
“Don’t say that. Why check on her? She’s not even good-looking,” Song Heng replied.
“Clearly, you’re the one who’s not good-looking,” Xia Chuqing retorted, “I’ll see if Sister Yingying has gotten married when I go back.”
“You! Are you doing this on purpose to irritate me?” Song Heng’s mouth twitched.
“Don’t say any more, time to board the plane!”
Xia Chuqing waved back at him, pulling her suitcase and walking forward.
“Take it slow!” Song Heng couldn’t help but remind her.
Song Heng shook his head helplessly. Maybe he was used to being her brother, but he always thought about her.
Her family had gone through such a significant change, and he truly feared she might not be able to take it.
But judging from things right now, she seemed alright, as long as no one deliberately brought it up, she remained relatively stable.
…
On the day of the interview, the weather was exceptionally nice. It was cold, but with the sun shining, Xia Chuqing’s nose perspired slightly as she arrived at Shen Group.
There were a lot of people standing in the interview hall, all filling out forms, preparing for the interview.
Xia Chuqing also picked up a form and filled it out casually.
Next to her, some girls were gossiping, “Have you heard? The Shen Group’s CEO is really handsome.”
“What good is hearing about it? The CEO is already married with kids,” one girl replied.
“Really? My teenage heart…” the girl clutched her chest, pretending to be deeply disappointed.
“It’s fine; I heard the Vice President is handsome too, and he’s single,” the other replied.
“Really? Which department does the Vice President manage? I want to redo my form!” the girl exclaimed excitedly.
“If I knew, I’d have already used my connections to get in…”
Listening to their gossip while filling out her form leisurely, Xia Chuqing thought Xiao Mo was quite nice – at least he informed her that the Secretary’s Office paid well.
But, was the “Vice President” they mentioned Xiao Mo?
Handsome? Where’s he handsome? His tastes are quite bizarre…
While biting her pen, Xia Chuqing noticed a column in the form asking for “Parents’ Political Status.” Usually, this kind of blank column was filled casually, but Xia Chuqing found it quite annoying.
She didn’t know if Shen Group cared about this, so she filled out “innocent” like everyone else.
There were a lot of people in the interview hall, but few would be accepted, as Shen Group had very strict requirements.
Xia Chuqing chatted casually with a girl nearby; she was in a pretty good mood today.
“You’re a foreign student?” the girl next to her said enviously, “Luckily, we’re not applying for the same department.”
“Just spent a few years abroad,” Xia Chuqing smiled.
“Work hard; I heard interns can become permanent employees after six months,” the girl encouraged.
“I’ll do my best. Since I’m taking the salary, I must work diligently.”
However, Xia Chuqing had no plan to stay in C City long-term; she intended to return to A City with her family once her dad was released.
Only a year and a half to go; enduring might just see it through…
“Chuqing Senior?” Suddenly, a crisp voice called out.
Xia Chuqing looked around to see a girl with a baby face calling her, but she didn’t recognize her.
“Hello,” Xia Chuqing greeted politely.
“Chuqing Senior, didn’t you go abroad?” The girl said without exchanging pleasantries, walking up to Xia Chuqing’s side, glancing at her resume, “Why are you coming back here and taking our jobs too?”
“Work is work, no matter where. I prefer it in my home country,” Xia Chuqing replied. “Are you…?”
“C University junior, about to graduate, can’t afford to go abroad,” the girl replied dismissively.
Xia Chuqing detected the prickly tone but didn’t feel like arguing, nodded, and said nothing more.
