Chapter 154: _ Darker Desires
Lira softens instantly, as if his words are a comfort potion she cannot resist. Her lips press together, then part again. "You do give me everything I want," she admits, nodding.
Then her eyes thins again in suspicion. "But there’s something I need to know."
Ah. Here it comes. The inevitable turn. The part where her insecurity becomes claws. Morgan tilts his head, feigning curiosity. "Something?" he repeats
She licks her lips, suddenly nervous, her nails tracing invisible shapes against his chest. "When you went into the labyrinth... to find that thing..." She pauses, biting her lip, then blurts out, "Did you touch her? Did you kiss Heidi? God forbid, but... did you do something more?"
Morgan’s smile freezes at the edges. Internally, Luke growls. "Here we go. The jealous little spider spins her web."
Admitting the truth—even a bit of it, that he wants Heidi and has no intention of rejecting her would be suicide. He knows it. He can almost see the chain reaction: her shrieks, her tears, her rage spilling out of this dust-cloaked music room into ears that should never hear it. Lira is not dangerous, but her desperation makes her unpredictable. And unpredictable pawns are bad pawns.
So he slides his ’lovely lover’s’ mask over his face.. "Heidi?" he repeats, with a soft laugh that says the very thought is absurd. "Darling, I barely even saw her in there. I was focused on what I went for. That’s all that mattered. Do you really think I’d waste my time pawing at her when I had a mission?"
Lira blinks with uncertainty as though she was considering not believing him, but when she sees the anger he fakes blossoming in his eyes, her face lights up. She wants to believe him, and belief is always easier than doubt.
Her pout softens into a smile. "So you found it?" she presses eagerly.
"Of course. But Grayson thinks we didn’t. That Mirenia bitch told us it’d be inside a bad demon, but it was in fact, a fraction of the soul of a Greater demon hiding amongst the good ones. I deceived her and carved it right out of her." He lets his mouth curve into a wolfish grin. "Which means we’ll need to... improvise a story for that fairy, Mirenia. You know how she only opened the portal because we promised to retrieve it for her."
Excitement flares in Lira’s eyes even though the topic is about deceit and betrayal. When she’s not busy gushing about how great she is, those are Lira’s favorite things to do. She leans forward like a child begging for a bedtime story. "That’s perfect! Morgan, with that, you’ll become so powerful that none of your brothers will ever be a match for you."
Ah, sweet music. He drinks in her adoration like wine.
"Yes," he murmurs, stroking her cheek with tenderness. "Then I’ll take my rightful place as Alpha. And after that? I’ll conquer other packs, one by one, until I rule all werewolves. Every last one will kneel."
"And I’ll rule beside you," Lira says breathlessly, clasping his arm. Her face glows with the fever of her fantasy. "I’ll be the most powerful Luna in history."
Morgan smiles, though his mind is far away, tracing darker paths. Powerful Luna? Hardly. She’ll be useful, yes—an ornament, a shield, and a pawn to fuel his war. But powerful? Never. Only he will hold that title. He’s discarding the slut the moment he realizes all of his goals.
What man would want such a girl as his Luna? She is forever on Amias’s neck for sex because apparently, her wolf has gotten a high libido that she doesn’t mind who she does it with. Back at the labyrinth when he penetrated Heidi, Morgan had to first sigh in the fresh wave of pleasure because it had been a while since he’s had such a barely used pussy... so fucking tight.
Unlike all the girls in this pack whose kitties were already wide enough to suck in even the Alpha’s mansion. Usually, wolves are hyper sexual and fall into heat whenever their mates are near, but these girls...
They don’t even need a mate to fornicate. It’s a daily thing, and just as Lira professes herself the Queen of the school, she’s also the Queen of the sluts.
The cunning bitch swears her loyalty to him, claiming she is solely with Amias because of their plan when her desires for his half-brother are evident for all to see.
Heidi, however, is different. She is the picture-perfect Queen. Not to mention her strength. Hell, Morgan has never seen a wolf—male or female, as powerful as that. She broke down the goddamn striker machine.
Talk of the machine being faulty? Like hell it was. He knows. Morgan knows it... she is the Luna bestowed upon him by the heavens and he’ll die before he loses her to any of his brothers.
Still, he feeds Lira’s dream. "Yes, my queen. The most powerful Luna history has ever known."
She gasps as if the words are a crown he’s just lowered onto her head. Her cheeks flush, her eyes shine. Pathetic. Delightfully pathetic.
Inside, Luke snarls with disgust. "You flatter the insect too much. She doesn’t deserve crowns. She deserves claws in her throat."
Morgan ignores him, stroking Lira’s hair as if she were precious. Because sometimes, a knife needs oil to stay sharp.
But the word "Heidi" still buzzes like a wasp in his skull. He narrows his eyes slightly, pretending to gaze at Lira with longing. In truth, his mind sharpens on the one name he can’t escape.
Heidi. Fated to all four of them, but already mated to him and Grayson. The curse, the blessing—whatever it is, it chains her to his brothers and him alike. And that makes her dangerous. Not because she is cunning—no, she is soft, innocent, maddeningly earnest. But because she is theirs. Because she stands in the center of the web, and he cannot cut her out without tangling his own limbs.
Which makes the next words spill from his mouth before he fully plans them: "Lira... tell me something. Is it true, what they say about her?"
