Chapter 52: COHABITATION BEGINS

Chapter 52: COHABITATION BEGINS

ARE WE still in Korea?

Wonyoung had only met Yun Dujun’s father, stepfather, and half-brother once.

If he remembered correctly, the first and last time he met those three was during the formal dinner that he had with them before marrying Yun Dujun.

Well, there was no ceremony.

Dujun Sunbae-nim just registered our marriage, and that’s it.

After that, Wonyoung never saw Yun Dujun’s father and his family again.

I was stuck with Sunbae-nim’s mother, who had done nothing but stress me out.

Anyway, Wonyoung was amazed when the car entered a gated community because it was his first time there.

It’s like entering a different world— a world where luxury knows no limits, that is.

He couldn’t believe he was casually cruising past private security gates where every lawn was impeccably manicured, and the neighbors were A-list celebrities, tech moguls (like Yun Dujun’s father), and chaebols.

I know because this neighborhood is like a status symbol in our country.

It was called Haneul Village— a gated compound of luxury villas and mansions on steep hillsides boasting breathtaking views of the river and the mountains (Han River and Nam Mountain, respectively).

People in the entertainment industry say you’ve made it once you live in Haneul Village.

Yes, the place boasted everything from lavish villas, golf courses to infinity pools and helipads. But what most people were truly after was experiencing life with VIP perks without worrying about stalkers or reporters lurking around the corner.

Haneul Village is known for its very tight security, after all.

"It seems like it’s a good idea to live here instead of my penthouse."

Oh.

Wonyoung turned to his side and found Yun Dujun glancing at him while driving.

Yes, the Alpha was driving this time since he didn’t bring Han Myung.

Fortunately, we left my apartment early, so we didn’t encounter my neighbors.

Anyway, Wonyoung had to sit in the passenger seat while An Baekya was in the backseat— and the child was already asleep.

He was silently enjoying the view outside when Yun Dujun spoke.

"I guess it’s safer here than your penthouse, Sunbae-nim."

"That’s true, but I said that because I can see how much you already like this village."

Oh.

I was being obvious, huh?

"When we were in college, I remember the other sunbae-nims saying that you’d know you’ve made it as an actor once you buy a house at Haneul Village," Wonyoung said. He was really thinking about that anyway. "You’ve really made it as an actor, Dujun Sunbae-nim."

"It’s true that I’ve made it as an actor, but the house was a gift from my grandfather. I didn’t work hard for it."

"I’m sure you can still afford to buy a house here. In cash, at that."

"Yes, I can. Do you want me to buy you a house here, Hoobae-nim?"

Pfft.

"Why do you keep offering to buy me things, Sunbae-nim?"

"Well, I want you to get all the fine things in life."

"That’s nice, but I hope you’re not thinking it’s enough to compensate for all the emotional damage that I’ve suffered ever since I married you," Wonyoung said. He wasn’t being a brat— he was simply reminding the Alpha of the reason he wanted a divorce. "I don’t resent you for choosing Yun Yuhyun when I was dying, but I resent you for letting your mother almost kill me."

Yun Dujun glanced at the rearview mirror, making sure that An Baekya was still asleep in the backseat, before responding. "I suspected it, but you really heard it when the doctor asked me to choose between you and our son, huh? But you’re saying you don’t resent me for it?"

"As a male Omega, I knew I would be risking my life when I agreed to give birth to your baby. Plus, what’s the point of our agreement if I lost your child? I would be mad if we were dating, though. Fortunately, that wasn’t the case."

"You’re suddenly back to your old self, Hoobae-nim."

"What do you mean by that, Sunbae-nim?"

"You’re scary when you act eerily calm."

Oh, right.

Back when Wonyoung was living ’outside’ the ’novel’ without the memories of his life as Bae Wonyoung, he got frustrated at how ’calm’ the book Bae Wonyoung handled the situation with the book Yun Dujun.

I guess that was my original personality.

"You accepted almost everything back then as if you really didn’t care enough, that was why I was surprised when you became expressive lately," Yun Dujun said. "But, now, I see a glimpse of the old you."

"Both are my personalities, Sunbae-nim. You just have to deal with both."

"Uh-huh. I’m not complaining."

"Okay, then. It’s good that you know."

Yun Dujun fell silent for a moment before speaking again. "I know apologizing to you for what my mother had done would never be enough. So, I’ll just show you that I won’t let something like that happen again."

"Frankly speaking, I don’t resent you for what your mother has done, Sunbae-nim— I’m more disappointed by the fact that you let her get away with it. I know I don’t mean that much to you, but I would have appreciated it if you had at least tried to avenge me."

"Hoobae-nim—"

"Yes, yes. I know that Sunbae-nim’s hands were tied back then. You weren’t able to make your mother pay for her crime because your father stepped in. But I’m not talking about that," Wonyoung said, cutting off Yun Dujun before looking outside the window. "At the very least, I expected you to cut your mother off your life. But, then again, who am I to you?"

Yun Dujun only answered Wonyoung with silence.

But I got the message loud and clear— I’m just someone he needed to have an heir.

***

WONYOUNG thought he would sulk all day after his disappointing conversation with Yun Dujun earlier, but his mood instantly changed after they finally arrived at the Alpha’s big house.

It’s a mansion!

The architectural style of the mansion was modern minimalist, with luxurious interiors featuring state-of-the-art smart home systems.

Wow.

It was truly impressive.

I lived a comfortable life as a successful actor in the other world, but this level of luxury is on a different level!

Wonyoung realized that he still needed to work harder to reach that level of success.

"Daddy, Papa, welcome home," Yun Yuhyun greeted them with a smile, but that smile disappeared when he glanced at An Baekya. "Hello, Baekya."

An Baekya smiled ’shyly.’ "Hello, Yuhyun-ah."

Yun Yuhyun made a face while An Baekya continued smiling ’innocently.’

These kids, seriously...

"Hoobae-nim, let me introduce you to the key staff members of this household," Yun Dujun said, politely pointing at the people standing behind Yun Yuhyun. "Everyone, this is Bae Wonyoung— my husband, and also Yuhyun’s mother."

Aigoo.

Wonyoung didn’t correct Yun Dujun since it was true, anyway.

So, everyone here must have signed an NDA.

That, and the fact that the faces he was seeing were all familiar already.

"Hoobae-nim, this is Aunt Rosa. She became my nanny when I was five, and now she’s Yuhyun’s nanny."

Wonyoung remembered the ahjumma from his ’past life.’

She became Dujun Sunbae-nim’s nanny when she was in her early twenties, and she’s in her mid-forties or late forties now.

He also remembered being scared of Rosa because of how strict she was.

So, Wonyoung bowed his head politely. "Hello, ma’am."

"Please speak casually, sir," Rosa said indifferently. "You may address me like how Dujun and Yuhyun do."

"A-Alright, Aunt Rosa."

Still awkward...

But Rosa nodded as if she were satisfied.

"Then we have Han Gunil," Yun Dujun continued with the introduction. "He’s Yuhyun’s aide-slash-bodyguard. Gunil is also Han Myung’s younger cousin."

Wow.

My son already has an aide at his age.

Wonyoung vaguely remembered Han Gunil, though.

It seems like we’re around the same age?

"Hello, Wonyoung-nim," Han Gunil greeted him politely. "Please speak comfortably. You are older than me, sir."

Oh.

"I understand, Gunil-ssi."

"Next, we have Uncle George— the chief of staff."

Oh.

’Uncle George’ was a Caucasian man in his early fifties.

Now this was a person that Wonyoung remembered clearly.

"Hoobae-nim, you remember Uncle George, don’t you?"

"Yes, Sunbae-nim," Wonyoung answered politely, and then he bowed to George. "Hello, Teacher."

He called George ’Teacher’ because the old man used to teach him English.

Of course, it was arranged by Dujun Sunbae-nim.

"It’s been a while, sir," George said in fluent Korean. "It’s good to see you again."

Wonyoung just smiled and nodded politely.

"I’ll introduce you to the head chef later," Yun Dujun said. "He’s busy preparing our lunch in the kitchen. For now, let’s go to your room."

***

IT’S like a hotel suite.

Wonyoung had already expected his bedroom to be fancy, but he was still impressed by how big and luxurious the entire space was.

It’s very aesthetic, too.

"My room is just next door," Yun Dujun said. "Only our rooms are here on the third floor."

"I’m worried that Yuhyun and Baekya’s rooms are on a different floor, Sunbae-nim," Wonyoung said worriedly. "They’re only five."

"Aunt Rosa and Uncle George’s rooms are on that floor. The kids will be fine. They’re turning six soon, so they should start learning how to be independent."

Wonyoung still wasn’t convinced, but he just nodded.

An Baekya looked pretty excited when he found out that he would have his own room.

Speaking of which...

"I’ll unpack later," Wonyoung said. "Let’s check on the kids first, Sunbae-nim."

Yun Dujun nodded and was about to say something, but he stopped when his phone rang.

And when the Alpha looked at the caller ID, his eyes widened a bit.

Oho?

I wonder who it is.

"It’s Abeoji’s husband."

Oh, so, the legal spouse of Dujun Sunbae-nim’s father.

Yun Dujun answered the call calmly, but that calm expression didn’t last long. "You’re headed here to see my husband, sir?"

Wonyoung almost choked on his saliva.

Why does Chairman Yun’s spouse want to see me suddenly?

That never happened in the past!
