Chapter 55: Chapter 55 Xylander mysterious background.

After their departure, Xylander made plans with Maxine, who was to be the bridesmaid. It should have been her and Nicole, but after Nicole’s heartbreak, she was no longer a good option.

Maxine was supposed to walk Daniel down the aisle, where Xylander would officially become engaged to him.

Truthfully, Maxine never wanted to participate. Her best friend had been banned from attending the wedding, and she felt extremely guilty for Nicole, because she was the one who set her up with Xylander in the first place.

She never knew her younger brother’s sexuality. She thought if Nicole could become a part of their family, their bond would strengthen even more. But she never imagined Xylander would reject Nicole and go his own way—choosing to marry another person, and a man at that.

"I don’t think I can do this. Why are you this selfish? I wasn’t thinking about myself when I relinquished my inheritance to you, and now you can’t even sacrifice your damn sexuality for the happiness of our family?" Maxine demanded, still unable to believe her brother wasn’t the straight man she always envisioned.

Xylander was dashing right now, his tuxedo blazing as he adjusted his tie, both hands casually in his pockets.

"You keep bringing up this inheritance issue! Are you sure you’re truly happy about it? And except for the sake of this family, what haven’t I already done for you all?" Xylander raged.

"So once in my life, I want to take the bull by the horn and settle down, but you don’t deem it worthy unless it’s with your friend, right?" he demanded.

Maxine fell silent.

"The times of sacrifice are enough. I’ve been battling regrets and struggling with my confidence for years, but no more. If anything is going to happen, then let it happen," Xylander declared, taking one last look at his uncooperative sister.

"Are you with us or against us?" he asked firmly.

Maxine stood up and moved toward Daniel, who stood at the side of the door, silently watching the exchange.

Her eyes began to assess him closely—his long blonde hair tied neatly into buns, his emerald eyes sharp yet delicate, his oval face accentuating a striking jawline. His ivory skin glowed with a blinding aura that naturally drew attention.

Daniel Lancaster was simply otherworldly. Stunning and breathtaking weren’t enough to describe how Maxine felt just by staring at him.

He outshone anyone she had ever seen—both men and women.

"So you’re attracted to this one in particular?" Maxine probed.

"Is it his beauty or his rank? Probably an alpha, because don’t you want true alpha children? Oh wait, I forgot—men can’t bear children."

"Or is it his fortune? Does he come with a large inheritance?" Maxine pressed further.

Xylander rolled his eyes. That was so random. And children? Who said anything about children? He wasn’t fond of them and didn’t want any in the first place.

"Did I ever mention wanting a child?" Xylander asked, glaring at Maxine. He was losing his cool. He wanted to end this pointless argument and get through the wedding contract already.

It wasn’t that he was agitated about marrying Daniel. He was simply anxious, afraid of messing things up, and wanted the ceremony over with—but everyone around him was making it impossible.

"No kids, Xylander? Did you hear what you just said? Do you want our family name to die like that?" Maxine yelled, her voice rising.

Alexander, who had been checking his watch repeatedly, knew time was against them.

"Come on, guys. People will start leaving the church at this point. Let’s be on our way," Alex urged.

But Maxine, feeling interrupted, shot him a sharp glare, warning him to keep silent. Daniel felt irritated by her attitude.

What kind of family is this? Full of attitudinal problems. What the fuck!

"Please, girl, I believe you’re distracting my man. If you can’t serve as bridesmaid, then fuck off—we’ll ask someone else," Daniel said coolly.

Maxine’s face whipped toward him, eyes wide at the audacity. She was here talking to her brother, and this "hoe" dared open his mouth.

The sheer disrespect.

"Sorry, man, but sisters before hoes," Maxine fired back.

Daniel stood there, stunned. Was she for real? It wasn’t the end of the world. The least she could do was be supportive. She wouldn’t die from it—he was still her brother, and marrying a man wasn’t going to change his sex. Why was she acting like a spoiled child?

"Excuse you, Max! What did I say about insulting my groom?" Xyle drew the line sharply.

"Since you’ve run out of words, and since I can see you don’t have anything more to give, I’ll leave," Xylander stated, turning his back on her.

"Send my regards to Grandma Rachael. When you finally learn acceptance, you can attend one of my marriage parties. But as for this wedding—stay behind, dear."

His tone was professional, calm even, but the truth was final.

"I’m not your little brother anymore, and I will definitely not be controlled by you. I’m becoming a husband, and my duty is to my upcoming family. So, see you—not too soon."

With that, Xylander ended the talk and walked away with Daniel. But before their final exit, Maxine spat her last venom.

"Mom would have been so ashamed of you. This action will ruin you forever. That company will collapse, and the empire she built—the one that was supposed to go public this weekend—will flop and go bankrupt."

"So to cut it short, you’re bringing your own downfall. Today will be the start of it." Maxine hissed in disappointment.

"Just look at Dad. He ended up committing suicide even after everything. I don’t know what spell this boy used on you, Xylander, but soon I’ll get my straight baby brother back and send this... thing back to hell," she exclaimed in disgust.

Xylander had heard enough. He tightened his hold on Daniel’s hand.

"Walk Daniel down the aisle and meet me at the altar. Sorry, Daniel, I tried but couldn’t find a proper person to do this," Xylander said with a hint of weariness.

Daniel plastered a smile on his face.

"It’s fine. Alexander is perfect for the role."

As he watched Xylander walk away, his steps heavy and his eyes lifeless, Daniel could tell that Maxine’s words had struck a nerve.

Watching his fiancé’s figure fade, he realized he didn’t know much about Xyle’s past. Whatever happened with his father or his coming out must have been deeply traumatizing. But still—it was well.

Daniel wasn’t leaving. And when he planned his revenge, Maxine’s thoughtless outburst was going to be addressed.

Elder sister or not, she needed to learn to control her mouth. If she kept on this way, it would only embarrass her.

She might just end up like her friend Nicole—growing old in her house without marriage or a proper suitor.
