Chapter 47: Chapter 47 The billionaire tycoon.
"Or an omega? But I doubt that—so whichever one do you belong to?" Xylander continued, his voice as calm as the sea.
Daniel stood there transfixed. This was another problem he hated facing—telling the truth. One way or the other, another heat might occur, and if Xylander was anywhere close, he might pounce on him. Worse still, imagine the look on his face if he discovered Daniel was an Omega after all, especially after lying about his identity.
It wasn’t easy, but he had learned to walk past it, to keep the information in the dark and pretend like he didn’t even know his own rank.
God help him if this man was evil and decided to use the opportunity to destroy him—then he was finished.
Dark thoughts consumed Daniel, his mind spiraling with the worst possibilities.
"I don’t know, Xyle. I have a defect that didn’t allow me to find my rank yet—and it made me an outcast in the family." Daniel suddenly dropped to his knees.
Yes—time to act it out. He toned down his sassy side and brought forth a shameless one. Nothing worked better than tearful manipulation.
"My whole life I’ve been an outcast, treated as nothing by my family and peers—and now you’ll probably do the same." Daniel rolled on the floor and began shedding tears.
The bodyguard standing nearby could see right through him. He knew Daniel was faking it. How could someone suddenly burst into tears out of nowhere? It wasn’t normal.
"Boss, I don’t think he’s genuine. Just let him go," the guard said.
But Xylander, on the other hand, took offense.
"What makes you so heartless to think such a broken soul is faking it? Don’t make me pour my anger on you. Start the damn car, and let’s head back to Golden Palace," Xylander commanded.
For a brief moment, Daniel’s tears dried up.
Did Xylander just mention the Golden Palace?
The infamous Golden Palace—the most luxurious high-rise ever built in the USA. People could only dream of going inside. Only the richest of the rich ever stepped foot there. The owners were said to be a tycoon family.
The rent alone was outrageous. Even the lowest floor, which wasn’t that glamorous compared to the higher levels, cost a fortune. For an ordinary person, paying those bills would mean their entire generation would be in debt.
"Hmm... Xyle..." Daniel’s voice turned softer. Let him be called a gold digger or a schemer—he didn’t care. How was he supposed to rise in society if he had nothing to boast of? Now, he was possibly marrying a billionaire—and not just that, but the very owner of the Golden Palace.
"Are you okay, dear? Want water?" Xylander squatted, patting his back with surprising affection.
The two men standing nearby just gawked. This was a rare miracle. Their boss not only laughed, but was consoling a stranger—and talking about marrying a man. What about his reputation? What would the public say?
"Nope, I’m fine," Daniel muttered, trying to keep his cool after hearing such life-changing information. This bastard was freaking rich. His so-called "rich" family couldn’t hold a candle to this man. Adrian Valez? Daniel couldn’t even begin to understand him compared to this.
"I apologize for not responding earlier, but I don’t judge people based on rank. My mom was an Omega too, and I loved her," Xylander revealed.
Daniel just stared.
It was shocking. Xylander went on, filling him with details he wasn’t even interested in.
No offense, but Daniel didn’t care a bit about his family. Who would, when a pot of gold was standing right in front of you?
"Awn, that’s so cute—even for a macho man like you. But why do you sound sad when you mentioned your mother?" Daniel inquired. Knowing a little bit wouldn’t hurt, right?
But the moment he said that, Xylander fell into a chilling silence.
The two men exchanged uneasy glances. Their boss was terrible at this. They could feel it. He had probably never spoken about his feelings to anyone other than his mother—and since she was gone, the subject was too raw.
"It’s just that she died when I was only a few years old. I can’t remember much—but she always wanted me to be great. Guess I did," Xylander replied in a husky voice.
Daniel realized he had touched a sensitive spot—a place he shouldn’t have gone too deep into.
And yet... Xylander was confiding in him. A stranger he just met. Wasn’t that strange?
"Probably too much, right? Sorry for pushing my matters on you when they have nothing to do with you. Just remember—I don’t discriminate." Xylander ended the conversation and stood up, as if suddenly remembering something.
"Sorry, I’m not good at this apology stuff. Stand up already. About the contract marriage—are you in, or not? If you’re not interested, I’ll look elsewhere." He stretched his hand to Daniel, and with a sturdy grip, dragged him upwards.
Daniel felt lucky—almost as if he had hit a jackpot. But how could it come this easy? Something as precious as this man shouldn’t be won so effortlessly.
"No! Don’t look elsewhere. What else am I looking for? You’re perfect—the kind of man I might need to be saved. So, Xylander Wolfe, I, Daniel Morreti, will be your groom." Daniel spoke with confidence and finality.
Xylander smiled widely, his cheeks dimpling in a surprisingly cute way. Maybe not as cute as Draven—oh, that guy. He hadn’t seen him in so long. Was he alright?
At that moment, he had completely forgotten about Adrian’s booming threat against Draven. All Daniel could think about was his sheer luck—just this once.
Hopefully, this isn’t a facade, Daniel thought. Even now, he could picture his father’s disgusted face when he saw him getting married. He couldn’t wait to rub it in.
"Thanks, Daniel. And can we go to my place now? Tomorrow morning, the wedding will take place," Xylander revealed.
"So soon?" Daniel exclaimed. He thought it would take at least a month.
"Okay... but I just hope no family members are living in the Golden Palace with you. I can’t deal with constant nagging and dominance," Daniel muttered to himself.
Xylander opened the car door for him—this time not letting the bodyguard do it.
The bodyguard was still in shock.
All this was happening—boss comforting a stranger, planning a wedding overnight, and with a man of all people. Not a woman—a man. What a scandal this would cause in the news.
After Daniel entered, Xylander walked around to the front. But the bodyguard interrupted him in a whisper.
"Are you sure about this? You’re a public figure—and remember what happened to your father—"
The words earned him a deadly slap, making him stumble and almost fall.
"Say such nonsense again, and I’ll feed you to the mafias to be butchered."
That was enough to silence the trembling man. He rushed to open the boss’s door, and Xylander entered the car.
Daniel smiled to himself, clutching his clothes as he imagined his grand comeback. But all his thoughts dropped when his gaze shifted to the front—where the car stopped.
And there it was: a glamorous estate, gardens surrounding it like a shield, and a towering gate leading to a golden story building of several flats.
Golden opulence. Jezz—it was freaking gorgeous.
"Oh, baby, mama’s here to manage you," Daniel screeched excitedly to himself—completely unaware of the war awaiting both inside and within New York City.
