Chapter 515: Hosting a Dinner
Everyone passed by the front office, children’s playground, and classrooms to reach the dormitory area and a large open space.
Behind the open space, there was a small hill, which also belonged to the kindergarten and was entirely enclosed by a wall.
The children’s dormitories were in the front, used only for their afternoon naps. The staff’s dormitories were at the back, with two rows of four suites each.
Each suite had a living room on the outside and a bedroom inside. From the bedroom, one could step out to a small, approximately ten-square-meter open-air courtyard, where those who liked to garden could plant flowers.
Behind the courtyard was the kitchen.
The entire suite, including the courtyard, was only a little over fifty square meters, but it was suffucient.
The most ecologically-minded feature was the flat roof over the kitchen, accessible via stairs from the courtyard, where a layer of soil was spread for growing vegetables. Although it was only twelve square meters, it was enough to grow vegetables for a family.
To have such a suite in this era was truly splendid.

Shuiyu was very happy. Back in Deep Strange Courtyard, everyone only had a single room. Although the rooms were spacious, the lack of a bathing facility was inconvenient.
Here, one could bathe in the courtyard. Although there was no toilet, one could relieve themselves with a ‘small business’ in the courtyard and wash it away, as the courtyard had running water and a sewage system that led directly to a river outside.
But for ‘big business,’ one had to go to the public toilets outside.
In reality, even though having a toilet built inside the room was convenient, it wasn’t actually sanitary, because the toilet had foul air. Absorbing foul air could easily lead to illness.
“I like it too,” said Xiao Hua.
It was better here than in Siheyuan, where apart from the main house, the orientation of the other rooms was not good.
Wu Jiangsheng was delighted to have a courtyard that was suitable for bathing, mainly because this “bathroom” was quite spacious.
Shen Qi, though he didn’t say anything, his sparkling eyes also showed that he was very satisfied with this place.
The four girls took the front row of dormitories, while the two boys could only take a row in the back, with each choosing their own room.
That evening, Mengyu took out some wild boar meat and cooked a large pot, deciding it was enough for a simple feast.
The next day, Shuiyu told her, “Yesterday, on the street, I met the female cadre who reported work in Vice County Magistrate Wen’s office that day. She said she would like to visit you this Sunday.”
Mengyu then remembered Vice Town Chief Jing, and she still recalled that she had said she would host a dinner after rescuing the women trapped under the stele, but because of Huilan’s incident, her displeasure towards Mr. Lai had caused her to neglect this matter.
She turned to Xiao Hua and said, “Go outside and make a call for me, try to arrange a dinner with Chairman Huang, see if we can invite Vice County Magistrate Wen and the others for a meal, just say it is my way of thanking them.”
“Which people should we invite?” Xiao Hua asked.
“Vice County Magistrate Wen, Chairman Huang, Mr. Lai, Vice Town Chief Jing, plus the six of us, and all the police officers who participated in the operation that day.”
Wu Jiangsheng said, “Perhaps the police officers could be left out, as it would be too many people. Besides, they’ve already received ten yuan in subsidy.”
However, Mengyu shook her head, “The police officers have worked hard. Since we’re hosting, let’s invite everyone together. We can’t adopt the approach of giving preferential treatment to some and neglecting others, and we’re not short of that little bit of money.”
Xiao Hua agreed and left to make the call.
Mengyu found it inconvenient not having a phone here, and felt it necessary to install one, so she instructed Shen Qi, “Go to the post and telecommunications office and help us install a landline here.”
Shen Qi also agreed and left.
Shuiyu looked at Mengyu curiously, “Big sister, you’re only inviting Vice County Magistrate Wen and the others, not inviting Commander Gu and his group?”
