Chapter 593: Chapter 593: I’m Sick
Just as Du Shaoheng reached the door, he suddenly collapsed heavily onto the ground.
With a “bang”, his forehead hit the bedpost hard.
The man groaned in pain, supporting his forehead as he sat up from the floor.
Fortunately, there was a carpet at the foot of the bed, so the fall wasn’t too painful.
But it seemed a small gash was cut on his forehead, with some traces of blood seeping out.
He propped himself up against the wall and slowly stood up, moving to the bedside to sit down.
Du Shaoheng was slightly panting, lowered his head, and looked at his palm.
He felt his body deteriorating in an indescribable way.
In the past, even if he lost his balance and accidentally fell, his body would instinctively coordinate his hands to support himself, easing the impact.
But just now, as he fell, his body lost its protective instinct, not even having the most basic reflex, his whole body fell straight down stiffly.
Du Shaoheng opened the bedside drawer and took out a notebook, recorded the date, and began recording the entire process of his fall.
Previously, Dr. Liang had asked him to regularly record his physical condition to assist in observing the illness and aiding treatment.
Dr. Liang had prescribed him some herbal medicine to alleviate the symptoms.
But the effects of these medicines were minimal.
After recording, Du Shaoheng put the notebook back in the bedside drawer and lay down on the bed.
The next morning.
Du Shaoheng opened his eyes.
Beside him, Guan Yue was sleeping soundly.
He slowly got up, as usual, gave her a gentle kiss on the forehead, turned over, got out of bed, dressed neatly, and set off for the company.
At the company.
Du Shaoheng attended the morning meeting, and after the meeting, the secretary came over and told him, “President Du, the young miss is waiting for you in your office, she came to the company today to discuss the project connection with you.”
Du Shaoheng: “Got it.”
He walked to the office door and slowly pushed open the door.
When Du Ruo heard the door open, she immediately stood up, looked towards Du Shaoheng, and said, “Shaoheng, I…”
But as she spoke halfway, she saw Du Shaoheng’s deathly pale face and was shocked.
Du Shaoheng originally had wheat-colored skin, but now, his complexion was as pale as paper, devoid of any color.
Du Ruo suspiciously asked, “What’s wrong with you? Your face looks so bad, are you feeling unwell somewhere?”
Du Shaoheng waved his hand and sat down by the sofa: “There have been too many things going on in the company these days.”
He coughed and saw a breakfast placed on the coffee table.
Not having dinner yesterday, and leaving in a hurry this morning, he didn’t have time for breakfast, so before the meeting, he specifically asked the secretary to buy him breakfast.
Du Shaoheng extended his hand, unpacked the bag, picked up a heated sandwich, and tore open the package.
Du Ruo sighed, “Shaoheng, no matter how busy the company is, you have to take care of yourself first, don’t overwork yourself.”
Du Shaoheng chewed for a moment, only after swallowing the food in his mouth, did he suddenly say in a muffled voice, “Sister, I’m sick.”
He spoke casually and took another bite.
Du Ruo was stunned for a moment: “Sick? What kind of sickness?”
Du Shaoheng hesitated for a moment, raised his head, and looked into her eyes: “Spinal Cerebellar Atrophy.”
Du Ruo couldn’t react for a long time.
She had never heard of this term before, so it felt a bit unfamiliar: “What kind of disease is this? Is it serious?”
Du Shaoheng said, “According to my attending doctor, it’s terminal, with no hope for a cure.”
Du Ruo’s mind buzzed, and she immediately sat down beside him: “What do you mean? This disease can’t be cured?”
Du Shaoheng: “It seems like it.”
Du Ruo: “When were you diagnosed?”
Du Shaoheng: “Not long ago.”
Du Ruo squinted her eyes, still not fully recovering from this sudden news, tentatively asked: “With this disease, will you… die?”
Du Shaoheng gave a wry smile, shook his head, “I don’t know how long I can live, everything seems to be an unknown.”
After he finished speaking, he took another bite of the sandwich.
Du Ruo’s face suddenly turned serious: “Who else knows about this? Have you told our parents? What about Guan Yue? Does she know?”
Du Shaoheng replied, “Besides you, I haven’t told anyone else.”
Du Ruo: “Why not?”
Du Shaoheng: “I want to live like a normal person as long as I can walk. If I tell her, she might not accept the fact for a while, I want her to have fewer days of unnecessary fear. So, only you know about this.”
He paused for a moment, then added, “Sister, can I hand over some of my responsibilities to you? I can feel my body continuously deteriorating, and the current workload is too much, somewhat exceeding my limit. Also, I want to have more free time to spend with the two kids.”
Du Ruo became silent all of a sudden; now, she only felt her heart was a mess.
She has two younger brothers.
But from childhood to adulthood, she has always been closest to Du Shaoheng.
Now, hearing this news from his mouth, it was like a bolt from the blue.
Du Ruo said, “Now that medicine is so advanced, I don’t believe this disease is incurable. Shaoheng, don’t give up hope, if it can’t be treated domestically, I’ll take you abroad for treatment. I don’t believe there truly is a terminal illness that money can’t cure.”
Du Shaoheng smiled, “Alright, I’ll listen to you.”
Du Ruo tightly held his hand, “So, you promise me, don’t give up easily! Sister won’t give up on you easily either.”
Du Shaoheng smiled, “I won’t give up. But, what if it truly can’t be cured?”
Upon hearing this, Du Ruo’s eyes turned red instantly; her character was always resilient, but hearing Du Shaoheng’s words, all her defenses collapsed in an instant, and she choked, “Don’t say such discouraging things… Shaoheng, don’t scare me, and don’t scare yourself!”
Du Shaoheng said, “Sister, what I mean is, if this disease really can’t be cured, then I want to cherish what should be cherished within the limited time I have. I want to spend more time with Xixi, more time with Junjun, more time with my wife… and …”
A name that couldn’t be mentioned flashed through his mind.
Du Shaoheng closed his eyes, “So, I want to hand over half of my work to you. Besides you, I don’t trust anyone else.”
In the Du Family, Du Ruo is the eldest daughter, and the third-ranked Du Li is of no help, a typical playboy, without any proper path.
In the current conglomerate, Du Shaoheng and Du Ruo each manage half of the business.
However, Du Shaoheng feels his body seems to be gradually and continuously deteriorating, and the daily high-intensity workload leaves limited time for him to be with the two kids.
Du Ruo’s eyes turned increasingly red, “At this point, don’t worry about the company anymore, the company has me. After some time, I’ll take you abroad for treatment.”
Du Shaoheng: “Alright, I’ll listen to you. But, don’t let anyone else know for now.”
