Chapter 646: Chapter 646: His Ears Turned Red
Junjun finally breathed a sigh of relief and lowered his voice: "Mom, after you fell into the water, it was Uncle Rong who rescued you."
Li Yufei felt a bit dazed.
Coming back to her senses, she recalled the scene of drowning in the river, but it was already blurry in her memory.
The last thing she remembered before losing consciousness was being lifted to the shore. She opened her eyes to see Rong Ling anxiously looking down at her, his black hair dripping wet, with water droplets even falling onto her face.
Li Yufei found herself slightly lost in thought and couldn’t help but look at Rong Ling once more.
His original clothes were soaked, and he had taken them off, neatly hanging them on a rolling garment rack he borrowed from the hospital. Now, he was wearing a black tank top and gray striped shirt bought on sale from a nearby mall. Because of his sleeping posture, the shirt was pulled downward, revealing his straight shoulders and back.
He looked so well-behaved in his sleep, like a quiet big dog.
She looked around.
There were only the three of them in the ward.
Li Yufei asked, "Where’s your father?"
Junjun said, "Aunt Guan Yue had diarrhea, so he took her and Xixi home first."
Guan Yue, being quite sensitive since childhood and raised in luxury, was somewhat prone to infections from bacteria and microorganisms in the lake, causing some intestinal troubles. After getting some medication, she went home.
Li Yufei casually asked, "Is she okay?"
Junjun: "She’s fine. Soon after falling into the water, Dad rescued her quickly."
Li Yufei pondered for a moment.
Junjun said, "But in the hospital, Aunt Guan Yue seemed not very happy, and Dad didn’t look pleased either. I heard from Xixi that they had a few arguments during the IV drip."
Li Yufei remained impassive.
Just then—
Li Yufei’s assistant entered with fully armed bodyguards in single file.
"President Li!"
The assistant rushed to her bedside in panic.
Li Yufei shushed.
However, it was already too late.
Rong Ling was instantly awakened, his dark eyes bloodshot and bewildered, until he saw Li Yufei and realized that he had fallen asleep earlier. His lips were dry, and he involuntarily licked them. His arm was numb from sleeping on it, and his hair was messy; he raised his hand to push it back, but his bangs stubbornly hung over his eyes.
Li Yufei said, "Rong Ling, thank you today. If it weren’t for you, I’d definitely be dead."
Seeing him keep adjusting his bangs, she raised her hand, rubbed the top of his head, speaking in a tone that was unusually gentle: "But please, don’t do such dangerous things again, okay?"
Rong Ling’s body stiffened, instinctively reached out to grasp her wrist, realizing that she was touching his hair, he pressed his thin lips tightly. After a moment, he finally released her wrist, allowing her hand to smooth down his bangs.
Since childhood, apart from kindergarten teachers, no one had touched his hair.
Not even his mother.
Rong Ling turned his face slightly serious, yet from Li Yufei’s angle, she could see his ears were embarrassingly red and hot.
Li Yufei paused her action, raised an eyebrow: "Why are your ears so red?"
Rong Ling: "I..."
Junjun said, "Could Uncle Rong be shy?"
Rong Ling awkwardly furrowed his brows, suddenly stood up, avoiding Li Yufei’s gaze, merely looking at Junjun: "That’s not true, kids shouldn’t talk nonsense."
Junjun crossed his arms: "Who’s the kid here? I’m 11."
Rong Ling: "Still a kid."
Junjun: "You’re not that much older than me."
Rong Ling was left speechless.
The bodyguards stood silently at the foot of the bed.
Li Yufei said, "Please go out first."
The assistant said, "President Li, I’ve already sent people to investigate the matter in the park. Please rest well. We’re right outside; just call me if you need anything."
Li Yufei nodded, looked at Rong Ling and Junjun: "Are you hungry?"
Junjun said, "I’m not hungry."
Rong Ling said, "I’m hungry."
Li Yufei said, "What do you want to eat? I’ll have the assistant order it for you."
Rong Ling said, "No need to trouble, just order delivery."
Li Yufei: "What do you like to eat?"
Junjun said, "Uncle Rong likes meat, not sweet things."
Li Yufei couldn’t help but be surprised: "How do you know?"
Junjun squinted his eyes and smiled: "I observed during Xixi’s birthday; he likes to eat meat."
Li Yufei laughed: "Carnivore."
It’s really hard to tell that this guy likes meat so much, yet remains so lean.
Perhaps the nutrition from the food goes straight to his height.
Junjun snickered on the side.
Before long.
The delivery ordered by the assistant arrived.
Three large boxes of barbecue, from beef to lamb to pork and chicken, were all included.
Besides that, there were also lots of burgers and similar items. After instructing the assistant to distribute them to the bodyguards, she said to Rong Ling, "Why are you still standing there? Eat."
Rong Ling: "What are you eating?"
Li Yufei: "I don’t have much appetite for now."
The assistant said, "I ordered some porridge for President Li to warm her stomach."
Rong Ling casually picked up a burger, took a bite, and chewed slowly.
His jawline subtly appeared as he chewed.
Outside the window, the sky gradually darkened.
As soon as Rong Ling and Junjun finished eating, Li Yufei’s porridge arrived.
At the same time, Du Shaoheng walked in with a lunchbox.
Seeing that Li Yufei had ordered delivery, he furrowed his brow: "Why did you order delivery?"
Li Yufei: "Delivery is more convenient. Why are you here?"
Du Shaoheng said, "I was worried about you."
Rong Ling stood up, returned to Li Yufei’s bedside, and looked at Du Shaoheng.
The two men exchanged a silent glance.
Du Shaoheng said, "Didn’t I tell you that I’d deliver food myself later?"
Rong Ling: "Water got into my ears, I didn’t hear it."
Du Shaoheng was rendered speechless.
Rong Ling said, "Is Mrs. Du feeling better? It’s kind of you, Mr. Du, to make the trip."
Li Yufei said flatly, "Shaoheng, go back early to accompany Guan Yue. She’s so afraid of water, she must be terrified."
Du Shaoheng gently placed the lunchbox on the bedside table.
He saw that the assistant had opened the delivery box for her and it was porridge.
Du Shaoheng said, "I had the chef make something to...nourish your stomach. Do you want the porridge or what I brought you?"
Li Yufei said, "I’m feeling dizzy and have no appetite, porridge will be fine."
She suddenly remembered the black fish soup Rong Ling mentioned when they were rowing today.
Li Yufei: "I want to have the fish soup you cook."
Rong Ling hadn’t expected her to remember, and he nodded: "Okay."
Du Shaoheng saw this and pressed his lips.
Having another person there suddenly made things awkward.
Just then, the doctor came for rounds.
Two interns followed him in.
The doctor took out an infrared thermometer to measure Li Yufei’s ear temperature. His expression was serious: "A bit of a fever, let’s keep you in the hospital for observation for a day. Have some porridge, and don’t eat anything else tonight. Fast until tomorrow morning, then get a blood test."
Rong Ling asked, "Can she drink fish soup?"
