Chapter 721: The Mastermind Is Dead

Chapter 721: Chapter 721: The Mastermind Is Dead

Rong Ling showed Li Yufei the pot: "Braised noodles."

Li Yufei was surprised: "You can make braised noodles here?"

Rong Ling: "Of course, you’ll see soon."

Just then the doorbell rang.

Rong Ling cautiously put down the pot and immediately ran to the door, looking outside through the peephole.

Only after confirming it was just Li Yufei’s assistant outside, did he open the door.

The assistant looked like he hadn’t slept all night. His hair was a mess, his beard was unshaven, his complexion was pale with a hint of blue, and he had dark circles under his eyes.

Li Yufei casually picked up a cup, filled it with water, and handed it to him: "Go ahead."

The assistant took the water and bowed: "Thank you, President Li. News just came from the police station, saying the mastermind is already dead, shot twenty-four times in the back, an apparent suicide."

Rong Ling: "What?"

Li Yufei remained extremely calm.

She often dealt with foreigners in business, so this kind of thing was not unusual for her.

She also knew it was impossible to catch the mastermind.

Li Yufei: "A case this big couldn’t be just one person, right?"

The assistant nodded: "Most of those connected with him have fled. The mastermind was a homeless person with no family background, and the few homeless people associated with him are now also missing. People like them don’t generally attract much attention."

Li Yufei: "Are there many homeless people around here?"

The assistant: "Yes, and they’re scattered widely. I’m worried there may still be unexpected developments. It’s best if you don’t go out in the next couple of days."

Li Yufei: "I’ve arranged to discuss cooperation with Huake."

The assistant looked troubled: "But..."

Rong Ling gently held Li Yufei’s hand, wrapping both hands around her slender fingers: "With such a major incident, they surely will understand. Why not stay at home and keep me company for a couple of days, okay?"

For some reason, Li Yufei couldn’t refuse Rong Ling’s request.

Especially with his current gaze, gentle, affectionate, and faintly shimmering with tears, it seemed like a single "no" would break his heart.

Li Yufei: "I’ll think about it."

Rong Ling pursed his lips but obediently let go of her hand: "I respect all your decisions."

Even then, the assistant was still a bit surprised.

Since joining the Li Family, no one had been able to influence Li Yufei’s work decisions, yet Rong Ling seemed to sway her with just a word.

The assistant: "President Li, there’s one more thing. I’ve also investigated the person who gave you the ticket, and he’s gone missing. His parents have reported it to the police, just like us, but there’s been no further development."

Li Yufei frowned: "They also reported it?"

The assistant nodded: "It seems he’s just a college student who’s been used."

Li Yufei: "Understood."

The assistant originally wanted to say it was time for him to leave, but then he suddenly smelled something particularly fragrant and instantly looked toward the source.

Rong Ling opened the steaming box and took out the braised noodles he had cooked inside, spooning on some chili and stir-fried vegetables, serving them on a plate—the aroma was overwhelmingly delicious.

The assistant gulped: "President Li, I’d like to eat."

Li Yufei: "Then stay and join us."

The assistant’s eyes glowed.

The noodles Rong Ling made were especially chewy, springy, and smooth, and the assistant devoured a whole platter in an instant.

A full five pounds of noodles disappeared in the blink of an eye.

After eating his fill, the assistant left.

Li Yufei wanted to help Rong Ling clean up the dishes, but he pushed her toward the sofa: "I can handle it. Why don’t you watch some TV or play a game? I’ll be done soon."

Rong Ling didn’t mention it, but Li Yufei almost forgot—there’s a PlayStation here, and quite a few discs.

She had never played games before and usually didn’t enjoy them.

So when Rong Ling returned with a plate of freshly cut fruit, Li Yufei was still watching news reports about the shooting case.

Rong Ling sat down beside her: "That’s yesterday’s news."

Li Yufei: "Yes, but there’s nothing interesting."

Rong Ling: "Why not play a game?"

Li Yufei: "I’m not very good, and I’ve never played before."

Rong Ling raised an eyebrow: "Then let me teach you."

Li Yufei nodded: "That’s fine."

She actually wanted to experience Rong Ling’s lifestyle, the life of young people.

Rong Ling picked the latest version of Call of Duty, as he particularly liked shooter games and wanted to play with Li Yufei.

There were two controllers in total, and the screen showed two viewpoints.

His was the blue controller, corresponding to the left side of the screen, hers was red, corresponding to the right side.

The two sat shoulder to shoulder in front of the TV.

Once Rong Ling taught Li Yufei how to operate the controller, he started the game straight away.

Initially, he thought he would guide Li Yufei, protecting her, but halfway through, he died while Li Yufei remained alive.

Rong Ling watched her clear levels seamlessly as if questioning his existence.

Li Yufei played calmly until the final level.

The screen showed the subtitles.

She gently put down the controller: "Not bad, quite fun."

Rong Ling: "Didn’t you say you’ve never played before?"

Li Yufei nodded: "Never played."

Rong Ling looked at the controller, then at Li Yufei, and again at the screen.

Though he didn’t have much time to play games, he wasn’t completely deprived of leisure, especially since most of the places he’d worked at a young age were frequented by boys playing and talking about games, which led him to play quite a few.

He distinctly remembered that the first time he played this type of game, he took a full three hours without clearing the first level.

Li Yufei: "Are there any other games?"

Rong Ling: "I want to battle against you."

Li Yufei blinked: "Against me?"

Rong Ling: "Yes."

He wanted to see just how skilled she was.

Li Yufei raised her eyebrows: "You can battle against me, but if you lose, there will be a penalty."

Rong Ling: "Then there should be a reward if I win."

Li Yufei: "Alright."

Rong Ling: "If I win, you’ll agree to one thing I ask; if I lose, I’ll agree to one thing you ask."

Li Yufei smiled: "Let’s start."

Rong Ling’s awareness was better than Li Yufei’s, but his operation somehow couldn’t match hers.

He always thought his reaction speed was very fast, but Li Yufei’s was even faster!

In less than three minutes, Rong Ling felt overwhelmed.

He had played this map multiple times, yet some places were still unclear, but Li Yufei managed to appear unexpectedly in less than three minutes, stabbing him to death!

She didn’t even use a gun but killed him with a knife!

Staring at the "Game Over" message on the screen, Rong Ling held the controller silently.

Li Yufei: "Battling with you is more fun than clearing levels; you’re better than them."

Rong Ling turned his head: "Yufei, are there any more surprises I don’t know about?"

Li Yufei pondered: "You can discover for yourself."

She truly wasn’t good at gaming, and today was her first time playing.

So...

She really didn’t know if there was anything in this world she hadn’t done but could still surprise Rong Ling the first time around.
