Chapter 319: Chapter 319: The Resurgence of Conflict
“Such a box must cost hundreds!”
“Every employee at the headquarters gets one; Mr. Huo spent millions just on wedding candies!”
“I just don’t understand the world of the wealthy!”
“Wailing, it’s another day of green-eyed monster! Who is so lucky to marry our Mr. Huo!”
“It must be some rich family’s daughter! After all, to marry Mr. Huo, she has to be in the same class as him!”
“…”
The wedding candy was passed to Lin Qi.
Only then did Lin Qi realize that these were the wedding candies Tingdong had distributed to the employees.
She glanced at it; it was imported packaging, all in English.
Suddenly she remembered that Tingdong had ordered a lot of chocolate candies, and there seemed to be extras left at home, so she gave her box to Han Na: “Nana, take this box too.”
Han Na was slightly startled: “Really? Aren’t you going to eat any?”
She especially loved chocolate, but such expensive chocolates, if not given as wedding candies by Mr. Huo, she would never afford to buy.
Lin Qi said, “Really, I remember you really like chocolate!”
Han Na was touched: “Qiqi, thank you.”
She accepted it somewhat sheepishly.
Han Na opened the chocolates, broke them into two pieces, gave one to Lin Qi, and ate one herself, blissfully bubbling with happiness.
Lin Qi took a small bite; it was very rich in flavor.
“Lin Qi!”
Maeve suddenly came to her workstation, handing project forms to both her and Han Na, one for each.
Lin Qi asked confusingly, “What’s this?”
Maeve said, “Take a look, it’s a project form that needs to be re-planned. Please finish the planning by the end of work today and pass it to me.”
Lin Qi was stunned, “I’m currently under Ms. Zhou, and we’re not in the same team. This is a project your team needs to follow up on, why should I do it?”
Maeve responded, “Aren’t we all in the same department? Since we are, it’s normal to temporarily reallocate the manpower when there’s not enough hands.”
Han Na guiltily lowered her head.
This project plan was originally taken up by her, but her business skills weren’t mature enough, hence, three project plans were rejected in succession.
Lin Qi glanced at the project form. The project wasn’t difficult; she could complete the planning this afternoon, but why should she do it?
She pushed the planning form back to Maeve, “I’m sorry, I don’t have the time.”
Maeve frowned, “Lin Qi, do I need to remind you? Even if you are not in my team, I’m still partly your superior. When Ms. Zhou’s team lacks manpower, she also takes from my team. Now with such a simple task, what do you mean by hesitating and making excuses?”
Lin Qi: “This is not my job to do.”
Maeve retorted, “What is and isn’t your job to do? Huh. Lin Qi, I know we have some personal grievances, but separate work from personal feuds, wouldn’t you?”
After speaking, she turned and went back to her workstation.
Lin Qi looked at Han Na with a skeptical expression.
Han Na nodded and said, “It’s like this… It’s normal for different teams in the project department to reallocate manpower from each other.”
Lin Qi sighed, temporarily halted the module data, and opened the document.
Evening.
Nearing the end of the workday.
Lin Qi finished the proposal, printed two copies, went to Maeve’s seat, handed them to her, and turned to leave.
Maeve took the project sheet, glanced over it, and suddenly called out to her: “Stop!”
Lin Qi turned around, looking at her puzzled.
Her instinct told her that Maeve was looking for another pretext to pick on her.
And sure enough—
Maeve, holding the proposal, lightly threw it at her and commanded, “This proposal is no good, redo it! You’re not leaving work until it’s done properly.”
Lin Qi looked down at the proposal scattered on the floor, her expression unchanged: “I don’t see any issues with my proposal.”
Maeve retorted: “Do I need your opinion? If I say it’s not good, then it’s not good.”
Lin Qi sneered: “Why is it not good just because you say so?”
Maeve suddenly stood up: “Who are you sneering at?”
She walked over to Lin Qi and said coldly, “Lin Qi, are you this arrogant? I’m your superior, I’ve been in the project team much longer than you. You think you have more say than I do?”
Lin Qi said: “Since Ms. Mia understands so well, why not do such simple things yourself?”
Maeve scoffed: “If I have to do everything myself, then what do we need you for? Why should the company waste money carrying someone useless like you?”
Lin Qi found it even more amusing: “You said it yourself, people like me, the ‘useless’ ones, are maintained by the company, not by your money. If you have issues, you should report directly to President Qi or another higher-ranking department to deal with me.”
Maeve angrily said: “Are you threatening me with President Qi again? What are you, to be so disrespectful!?”
Lin Qi replied: “I’m not a disrespectful person, I just think that you are picking on me. Facing such unfair treatment, I have the right to say ‘no’. This is the proposal I submitted. If you find it unacceptable, then please find someone more capable. If you delay my leaving time to redo it, I’m sorry, but I refuse.”
After all, who is making private grievances public?
Maeve is simply biased against her and intentionally making things difficult.
Between the two of them, it’s a standoff, tense and hostile.
All colleagues stopped their work to watch the scene unfold!
It feels like a war without smoke is about to erupt.
Seeing so many people watching, and Lin Qi clearly challenging her authority, Maeve suppressed her anger and said word by word, “Lin Qi, this is a company, put aside your personal character! I’m your superior, what I tell you to do, you do!”
Lin Qi raised an eyebrow: “What if I don’t want to?”
Maeve said: “Then I’ll fire you!”
Lin Qi replied: “Try it? What reason will you use to fire me? I’m not in your team; my current direct supervisor is Ms. Zhou. You transferred me from her team, and I’ve already put down my own work to help you, which isn’t my obligation, let alone my duty!”
Maeve’s anger reached a boiling point: “Talk back to me one more time and see what happens?”
Lin Qi retorted: “A mere team leader, where do you get such authority from?”
Maeve grabbed a cup of brewed coffee and was about to splash it onto Lin Qi’s face.
Lin Qi stepped back immediately, dodging, and the coffee spilled down her clavicle, soaking half her body.
She couldn’t help but frown.
The coffee had been brewed for a while and was no longer scalding but was still hot.
Her skin was quite sensitive, and her clavicle turned red immediately.
The office erupted in chatter, Maeve glared around, yet it quickly fell silent.
Lin Qi wasn’t the type to take this lying down, she grabbed a trash can from the floor and with a “clang,” threw it towards Maeve’s head.
Maeve, completely unprepared for a counterattack, had the trash can smack right into her face!
