Chapter 391: Chapter 391: The Report is Out
Lin Qi grew increasingly flustered. “How can you still laugh at a time like this?”
Huo Tingdong burst into laughter. “Why would you take what she said to heart?”
Lin Qi said, “What exactly did you say to her last night? Today, she couldn’t wait to come flaunting in front of me!”
Huo Tingdong replied innocently, “I forgot. Anything I told her was just improvised on the spot. How could I remember everything?”
Lin Qi retorted, “She said that as long as she proves the baby is hers, you’ll divorce me and marry her instead. Did you say that?”
Huo Tingdong hesitated. “…Yes.”
Lin Qi continued, “She also said that without Han and Momo, or the baby in my belly, I’d have no value to you. Did you say that too?”
Huo Tingdong frowned. “No.”
Lin Qi slapped the air in frustration. “Ugh, it drives me crazy! That wretched woman totally fabricated things!”
Huo Tingdong: “…”
He thought to himself, she must know that his interactions with Song Shuyan were nothing more than a facade, so why did she take her words so seriously?
Huo Tingdong asked softly, “How could you let her words affect you?”
Lin Qi sighed, “Because… I imagined it, that’s why! Even thinking about it makes me upset. Thank goodness Han and Momo are fine. If something had really happened to them, or if I had miscarried, and then you divorced me… it would completely destroy me.”
Huo Tingdong reassured her, “That won’t happen. I won’t divorce you.”
Lin Qi asked cautiously, “Really? What if *I* wanted to divorce you?”
Huo Tingdong countered, “Why would you want to divorce me?”
Lin Qi teased, “What if a man taller, richer, and handsomer than you pursued me? I might want to divorce you and marry him instead.”
Huo Tingdong declared firmly, “Impossible!”
Lin Qi pressed him. “What’s impossible? Are you saying no such man could ever be interested in me? Or that I couldn’t possibly divorce you?”
Huo Tingdong replied confidently, “It’s impossible for a man like that to exist.”
Lin Qi flared up. “…Could you be any more conceited?!”
Huo Tingdong huffed in annoyance. “Even if such a man exists, if you dare to divorce me, I’ll…”
Lin Qi tilted her chin up curiously. “You’ll what?”
Huo Tingdong glared at her stubborn yet soft face and found himself at a loss, so he bent down and kissed her instead. “Don’t even entertain such hypotheticals. It makes me jealous.”
Finally, he openly admitted he was a big jealousy-sponger.
Lin Qi smiled faintly. “So you do get jealous! Then you should understand why hearing Song Shuyan’s words made me so upset—because I was jealous too!”
After speaking, her cheeks puffed up in indignation, resembling a pouting blowfish.
Huo Tingdong leaned closer and kissed her soft, rounded cheeks in comfort. “No need to be mad anymore, okay? Or how about this—we stop pretending, and I send her straight to jail.”
Lin Qi asked cautiously, “Have you found any evidence?”
Huo Tingdong nodded. “Yes, there’s an unusual payment record tied to her. But the account she transferred the money to is overseas. I’ll need to collaborate with international banks for a more detailed investigation. Ren Chaoye has recovered, and I’ve already handed him photos of all the servants at the villa for identification. Once he matches up the photo, the evidence chain will be complete.”
He paused briefly before continuing, “Don’t be angry anymore. I promise I’ll never say such things again—not even in the context of scheming or acting.”
Lin Qi refused to let him off easily. “Then answer me—why did you marry me in the first place?”
With patience and tenderness, Huo Tingdong explained, “Because of you. I love you. That’s why I wanted to marry you.”
Finally appeased, Lin Qi beamed with satisfaction. “Hmm!”
She took the initiative to reach out and wrap her arms around his shoulders. “I love you too…”
Mo Ke stood outside the door, overhearing their conversation in the hospital room, feeling utterly dejected.
Why was he even standing here, listening to them flaunt their love?
As a perpetual bachelor, he had never imagined that someday he would taste the “dog food” publicly dished out by his own boss.
Honestly, it could choke him to death.
Three days later.
The amniocentesis test results were now ready.
Song Shuyan received a call from the hospital.
Over the phone, the doctor said, “Miss Song, the results of your amniocentesis test are ready. The report has been issued.”
Song Shuyan answered quickly. “Great, I’ll head to the hospital to collect it now.”
“No need; someone has already picked it up.”
Song Shuyan tensed up. “Who?”
The doctor replied, “Earlier this afternoon, right after the report came out, Mr. Huo sent someone to retrieve it.”
Song Shuyan promptly dialed Huo Tingdong’s number.
As soon as the call connected, Song Shuyan asked cautiously, “Tingdong, the amniocentesis results are ready. Did you get them?”
Huo Tingdong responded indifferently, “Yes, the hospital contacted me. I already sent Mo Ke to collect them.”
Song Shuyan, unable to contain her excitement, pressed further. “So… have you looked at the results yet?”
Once he sees the results, he’ll fulfill his promise to her!
Huo Tingdong replied, “Not yet. I’m on my way back to the Huo Family residence. Where are you?”
Song Shuyan replied eagerly, “Okay, I’ll head to the Huo Family residence too.”
Huo Tingdong said, “Since the results are out, I plan to formally announce this matter to the Huo Family.”
Brimming with joy, Song Shuyan fought back tears. “Alright… alright…”
She had finally been waiting for this day!
Song Shuyan’s hands trembled with excitement as she hung up the phone.
She hailed a cab immediately and headed for the Huo Family residence.
As the car pulled up outside, she spotted Huo Tingdong’s vehicle already there.
He had arrived!
Song Shuyan hurried towards the entrance.
Upon entering the main hall, she saw everyone assembled there.
On one side of the Old Madam sat Huo Yanlin and Ye Chan.
Opposite the Old Lady sat Huo Tingdong.
It was clear the Old Lady was still reeling from the recent upheavals. When she saw Song Shuyan, she spoke feebly, “Shuyan… what brings you here…”
Song Shuyan offered a polite smile. “Grandma, I am—”
Huo Tingdong stood up and said calmly, “Shuyan, take a seat.”
Song Shuyan quickly seated herself on the sofa.
Huo Tingdong slowly turned to address the room. Then in one swift motion, he gestured to Mo Ke. “Hand me the report.”
Mo Ke immediately handed the report over with utmost respect.
Huo Tingdong looked directly at Huo Yanlin and said, “Dad, as you’ve said, Shuyan is carrying my child. As both a man and the father of this child, it’s my responsibility to take accountability.”
While speaking, he began to unseal the envelope containing the report.
Song Shuyan pressed her lips together, her face adorned with a mixture of bashful delight and anticipation as she gazed at him.
Huo Yanlin asked seriously, “What’s this?”
Huo Tingdong responded, “This is the amniocentesis report Shuyan completed. I promised her that if she could prove the child in her womb is mine, I would take responsibility and marry her.”
Huo Yanlin’s expression softened slightly. “That’s the right attitude.”
Though the deaths of Han and Momo had cast a heavy pall over his heart, he also hoped Huo Tingdong would give Song Shuyan an official status. At the very least, the child in her belly was of Huo Family’s lineage.
Once she gave birth to this child, perhaps it would ease the grief brought upon the Huo Family by Han’s demise!
