Chapter 207: 207: Heartfelt talks
Eden hesitated and then casually said, "Can I ask you something?"
"What?"
"Do you believe some people can just be good? And help people without any ulterior motive? Do you believe that there are some people who do things out of the genuine act of wanting the good for the other? And some acts are simply done to help others without wanting anything in return?"
Adrian hesitated.
Eden smiled. "Sure. You would find that hard to believe. Perhaps with your environment you wouldn’t find it easy to believe." Eden knew for people who grew up in such political stands, it’s difficult to believe that one would do good for you without an ulterior motive.
"But..." Eden said, "That’s it. And that’s why I saved you. Because I want the best for you. Even if I’m the wizard of EL, or king of hades in your eyes, I’m not in my eyes."
Eden continued, "You might not know me much. And only act based on what you’ve heard about me or so. But at least I’d also be good if you genuinely try to know the real me. That would be sweet of you."
Adrian had both hands folded. Quiet while he stared at Eden.
Silence filled the room as the two of them stared at each other.
A knock soon came to the door and Adrian casually said, "Come on in."
The maid walked in with a tray of soup. Eden watched as the maid served him the soup bowl on the bed where he sat.
And then the maid walked out of the room. He stared at it, confused. "What’s this...?"
"Isn’t it obvious? A soup," Adrian said.
"What’s it for?"
Adrian hesitated. And then he leaned forward. Leaning closer to Eden who sat there in bed. Eden paused as Adrian’s hands came to meet his forehead.
Adrian’s hands brushed through his forehead as he stared into his eyes. "You have a cold. So of course you need something to treat it with." He brought out his hands.
"I asked the maids to get a perfect soup for it. And here’s it. So enjoy. Take it hot because that’s when it’s effective," Adrian said.
Eden stared at him for a while. Confusion and shock filled his expression while he glared at Adrian, trying to understand what the hell was happening.
That wasn’t the real Adrian he knew. The Adrian he knew wouldn’t do such a thing. He wasn’t that caring or nice at all. So watching this seemed like horror for it.
"What’s it? What’s with the looks? Aren’t you going to have the soup?" Adrian questioned.
Eden blinked as the thought of their first meeting flashed through his mind.
Poison.
He couldn’t help but wonder if this soup was poisoned. He felt it was because Adrian was a character he couldn’t trust or even predict.
"Why do you still want me dead?" he questioned him.
Adrian blinked. "Huh? Why would I want that?"
"The soup. It’s poisoned, right?" Eden asked.
Adrian blinked. He then scoffed. "Are you still holding a grudge or something? I’m not that ungrateful. You saved me, so this is the least I can do. I can’t watch you die of your cold."
"Besides," he added, "If I wanted you dead, I wouldn’t bring you here and have someone save you from death’s door even though you are a powerful wizard."
Eden nodded. "That makes sense..." he stared at the soup, still feeling somewhat skeptical.
"If you don’t trust me, then maybe I can drink it myself and feed you through my mouth. How does that sound?" Adrian folded his arms.
Eden glared at him. "Would you do that?" He smiled.
Adrian hesitated. "No."
Eden rolled his eyes. "Then how am I supposed to trust you with this?"
Adrian sighed as he took the soup from his hands. He took a spoonful of the soup while staring at him. "Happy?"
Eden smiled. "Now feed me."
Adrian furrowed his brows. "Do you want it or not?"
"Give it." Eden took the sip and began drinking it up slowly. Spoon by spoon.
Adrian watched as he drank it. Taking his time to digest the bitter taste of the soup while coughing from time to time.
"I never knew wizards fall sick too. That’s interesting," Adrian said, his eyes on Eden.
"I’m human too," he said, looking at him. "And I never knew you could be this kind. That’s new."
"New? I’m always generous. And I don’t like owing anyone anything," Adrian said.
Eden stared at him. "So this soup is for what exactly? Saving you?"
Adrian hesitated. "Depends."
"If you wish to pay back, then I doubt we’re even. Giving me soup for my cold can’t be compared to the life I risked to save your ass, can it?" He raised an eyebrow.
Adrian cast his cold glare on him. He hated that he was right. He hated that just a mere soup wouldn’t do that deal.
But Adrian casually scoffed. "Don’t worry. I’ll take good care of you." He leaned forward, his eyes fixed on Eden’s face closely. "I’ll take good care of you so much that you won’t want to leave here anymore..."
Eden blinked, leaning back. "And how do you plan on doing it...?"
Adrian scoffed. "Anyway. Any method that would make you satisfied..."
Eden smiled at him. "Anything? Even if it’s your body..?" He teased.
"Sure. If you’re that desperate for my body.. I can give it to you. I’m sure that would satisfy you," Adrian said, his deep eyes glued to Eden.
Eden blinked. He forgot that Adrian was pretty much the hardest to tease since he was shameless himself.
"I’ll think about it," Eden said as he went back to drinking his soup while avoiding Adrian’s eyes that were fixed on him.
Adrian now sat back, still staring at him. "What type of powers did you use on me?"
Eden was still drinking his soup when he asked the random question.
He paused, staring at his soup for a while before putting on a smile.
