Chapter 405: Chapter 405: Reluctant to Let Go
So, with no other choice, he had to turn to Owen Sinclair, hoping that Owen could help make a connection.
Owen had been in the entertainment industry for many years, and he wasn’t naive. He immediately guessed that Warren Prescott couldn’t have just "run away from home."
If it were just running away from home, Lars Prescott wouldn’t have gone through such a roundabout way to find him for help.
Besides, he had interacted with Warren Prescott a few times and knew that this promising young man wasn’t the type to do something as childish as "running away from home."
So, it’s highly likely that Warren isn’t running away from home, but rather, he’s out of contact.
Since Lars said it was running away, he went along with it.
"I’ve met Warren a few times. Young people tend to be impulsive; it’s normal. But since you’re worried, I’ll definitely help."
Lars on the other end clearly breathed a sigh of relief.
"Thank you very much, Mr. Sinclair. I heard that you’re planning to open a film company?"
Owen was a little surprised, "You know about that too?"
Lars chuckled over the phone but didn’t continue the topic; he merely said, "If you need any help with starting the company, feel free to let me know."
This was an obvious olive branch.
Owen let out a soft "hmm" and said, "I’m not sure what you need me to do?"
"Later, my people will come to see you. Are you available now?"
"Yes, I’m at my home in Aethelgard."
"Alright, my people will arrive in about forty minutes."
Owen felt a moment of surprise again.
This address was never disclosed to the media, yet they didn’t even need to ask, indicating they had already found his address through the Prescott Group’s network.
Feeling slightly displeased, he refrained from showing it and only said, "Alright, I’ll be home waiting for your people."
"Thank you. This number is my personal number. If you need anything in the future, you can reach me directly at this number."
In the world of adults, the exchange is often tied by "interest."
In Lars’s eyes, Owen’s willingness to help was not just because he knew Warren, but more because he wanted to connect with the Prescott Group.
Before calling Owen, he had already thought about what to offer in return.
Owen wanted to start a film company, so he promised to ensure the company would run smoothly.
So, after a brief pause, Lars directly stated he could help with the film company so that within a year, it could become one of the top 5 in the industry.
Unexpectedly for Lars, Owen directly declined, "Thank you for your kind offer, Chairman Prescott, but no need. I’m pretty much prepared on my side... As for whether I can reach industry top-tier, it depends on my fate."
Lars assumed Owen was just being modest and reiterated that these were resources to help.
Owen, however, politely declined once again and then said, "Chairman Prescott, I understand your intention, and what you’re thinking, but it’s really unnecessary. I’m helping simply because I know Warren and we’re somewhat friends. Besides, there’s also a reason I can’t elaborate on. I can only say I originally owed your family a favor, and this is my way of repaying it."
Lars was somewhat surprised.
Owen owes their family a favor?
When did this happen? Why doesn’t he have any recollection of it?
But since Owen didn’t want to elaborate, he couldn’t press further and just said, "Alright! Mr. Sinclair is a man of loyalty and righteousness. You’ve made a friend with me! Let’s get in touch again in forty minutes?"
"Okay."
Without saying much more, Owen directly hung up the phone.
After all, Lars’s people hadn’t come over, and saying more now was pointless.
Because of Owen’s demeanor, Lars found himself admiring him a little more.
"No wonder he’s a perpetual figure in the entertainment circle, a man everyone in the industry has to give some face to; he’s indeed worthy of respect."
Mr. Rowan rarely heard Lars praise anyone, and to lighten the tense atmosphere, he brought up Owen’s divorce case.
Lars showed a look of surprise.
"Someone like him, and his wife still cheated?"
But turning to himself, Lars’s expression darkened.
He cleared his throat and changed the subject, "Tell someone to speed up to the Sinclair Family. It’s imperative to connect with the cruise company’s people as soon as possible."
Mr. Rowan realized he misspoke and quickly got busy.
Sitting in his office chair, Lars felt inexplicably irritated.
In truth, Claudia Jennings wasn’t without her merits. Although she was a bit direct and thoughtless, such a person in their circle was unique.
Back then, it was precisely her uniqueness that made him agree to the arranged marriage set by the previous generation with Claudia Jennings.
— That’s right, they were married for the alliance, not for love.
Moreover, at the beginning, he had someone he loved, but the responsibilities on his shoulders and Claudia Jennings’s impeccable traits made him choose the path of a marriage alliance and heartlessly part ways with his beloved.
That beloved later also married someone else; they never contacted each other again. He only knew that she married not long after he did, to an ordinary person, and her daughter got married a couple of years ago.
Yet, every woman he found afterwards had a shadow of that beloved.
In truth, he wasn’t without feelings for Claudia Jennings, nor was he secretly holding onto that past love, and it’s not that he couldn’t control his desires.
It’s just that he felt somewhat... dissatisfied.
People are perhaps like this, never knowing satisfaction, even if it’s a decision they made themselves initially.
But with Warren’s incident, he truly realized who was most important.
Thinking of this, Lars picked up the phone on his desk and dialed Claudia Jennings’s number.
The call was answered almost instantly, with the sound of Mahjong in the background.
"Hello? Husband."
"Playing cards?"
"Yes. What’s up? You speak, and I’ll have someone cover for me."
"No need, just keep playing. I wanted to let you know that I might be a bit busy these days. I’ll probably come back late, so I might just sleep in the guest room to avoid waking you."
"I’ve always slept well; I’m not afraid of you waking me. Just sleep in the bedroom."
"Alright."
"Anything else?"
"Nothing else, I’ll continue with my work."
"Hold on."
"What is it?"
"If you have time, go to Spectator Tower and find Warren. I know he’s busy, but he has to come back to sleep, right?"
"He’s not in Westcroft."
"Huh?"
"I had him go on a business trip for me. He’s not in the country, so you probably can’t reach him recently. Once he returns, I’ll tell him to come home immediately."
"No wonder, I’ve been calling him, and his phone’s always off... Alright then, I get it, you go on with your work."
"Okay." Lars hung up the phone, his lips curling into a self-deprecating smile.
Claudia Jennings had complete trust in him, not even considering how he had never called her during work hours before.
Guilt and shame surged within him. For that slight "dissatisfaction," what absurd things had he done?
Lars closed his eyes, regretting realizing it too late.
Fortunately, perhaps it’s not too late.
Claudia Jennings was still there, waiting for him.
