Chapter 39: You’re Ruthless Enough

Chapter 39: Chapter 39: You’re Ruthless Enough

Warren Prescott’s gaze was full of warning.

The two men who initially wanted to pursue responsibility immediately changed their expressions to smiles.

"No need, delivering cakes on a rainy day must have been hard for you too, let it go."

"Yes, it’s just a few cakes, it’s nothing."

Ashley Shaw hesitated and spoke up, "But..."

The assistant manager interrupted her.

"This is our mistake, so we should be responsible. When settling the bill, we’ll deduct the cost of these damaged cakes."

Saying this, the assistant manager said to Ashley Shaw, "You go back to the car and rest for a bit, I’ll help clean up the area here before coming down."

"No need, no need, we’ll call the cleaners over," one of the men said.

Out of the corner of his eye, he saw that Warren Prescott and Cillian Xavier seemed to have the intention to help clean up, and he dared not let them clean themselves. He quickly called for the cleaners.

"Then I’ll head down first." Ashley Shaw said, thanking the three of them once again, "Thank you for today, I’ll treat you to a meal another day."

Her eyes weren’t blind; she could tell if it weren’t for these three people, these two staff members wouldn’t have dismissed the issue so easily.

She even suspected the whole thing had something to do with Rosalind Lynch.

From earlier, after she confirmed this wasn’t the Prescott Group but the Lynch Group and saw Rosalind Lynch’s strange expression, this suspicion sprouted in her mind like weeds in spring.

Everything seemed a bit too coincidental.

Saying it was an accident, she didn’t believe it.

But Ashley Shaw still said nothing and accepted the silent loss.

She wasn’t a match for the Lynch Family right now.

Call her weak or call her useless, but she felt the smartest thing to do was to pretend she knew nothing.

Just as Ashley Shaw was about to turn and leave, Warren Prescott stepped forward ahead of her.

"I’ll go down with you; I happen to be leaving too."

Ashley Shaw hadn’t finished speaking when Owen Sinclair spoke up.

"Young Master Prescott, could I have a word with you?"

Warren Prescott glanced at Ashley Shaw, then at Owen Sinclair, intuitively feeling that what Owen wanted to say had to do with Ashley Shaw, so after hesitating for a moment, he chose to stay.

Of course, he didn’t forget to pull Cillian Xavier along.

"You should come and listen too."

Cillian Xavier smiled meaningfully.

"Alright."

In the end, Ashley Shaw went downstairs with the assistant manager.

As they walked, he said, "Ms. Grant called me earlier, saying she had a bad feeling and told me not to leave your side. That’s why I came without finding a trolley, didn’t expect you’d really run into trouble. Ms. Grant is truly clairvoyant."

Ashley Shaw forced a smile.

"Your forehead seems swollen, should we go to the hospital?"

Ashley Shaw shook her head, "No need, an ice pack at home will do, it’s not a serious injury."

"Alright then, don’t do anything later, wait in the car for me. I’ll deliver the rest of the cakes, and then we’ll go back."

"Can you manage on your own?"

"I asked the cleaner here, they said they have a cleaning cart, should be okay to use."

Ashley Shaw finally nodded.

...

At the entrance of the conference room.

Owen Sinclair got straight to the point with the two, "Did you notice that the tile where Ashley fell seemed to have been pried open deliberately?"

Warren Prescott and Cillian Xavier exchanged a glance, already suspecting what was going on.

Owen Sinclair continued, "And the placement of the table where they wanted Ashley to put the cakes was odd too. The dessert area is clearly at the very back, and the spot by the door is supposed to be for registration, yet there was a table placed there for the cakes Ashley brought..."

At this point, Owen’s implication was clear.

Cillian Xavier spoke first, "Mr. Sinclair, no wonder your acting is so superb, you notice details better than we do."

Owen Sinclair responded with a modest smile, "I’ve only eaten more rice than you, plus, there’s a lot of bullying in our circle; having seen a lot gives you an instinct to think more about these things."

"Regardless, we should thank you."

"You’re welcome. Ashley and I are friends, helping her is no trouble."

Warren Prescott finally spoke, "Friends?"

Having already known from Attorney Coleman that Ashley Shaw and Warren Prescott are siblings without blood relation, Owen Sinclair did not avoid the subject, "Yes, we’re friends. Regarding my ex-wife’s case, Ashley helped me a lot."

Warren Prescott’s mind quickly compared it to the recent trending news.

Owen Sinclair’s wife cheated on him with his manager, and the two even tried to siphon his assets.

But now both have been officially detained, awaiting a court date.

He just couldn’t figure out what role Ashley Shaw played in this matter.

Yet, Owen Sinclair did not continue, simply saying, "I’ll head back inside now, contact me if you need any help," and returned to the party.

Warren Prescott’s eyes followed Owen Sinclair’s back until he disappeared behind the door, then he retracted his gaze expressionless.

He wasn’t sure how much weight Owen Sinclair’s "friend" carried, but what was visible was Sinclair’s concern for Ashley Shaw.

He felt inexplicably uncomfortable inside.

"Hey."

Cillian Xavier nudged Warren Prescott with his elbow.

"What do you plan to do now?"

He was referring to Rosalind Lynch’s matter.

Thanks to Owen Sinclair’s reminder, it was obvious this incident was related to Rosalind Lynch.

Warren Prescott’s eyes turned dark.

"The newly launched Lynch Group phone hasn’t been well-received, and there have been cases of explosions and self-ignition issues due to the phone’s battery problems. However, these news items have been suppressed, so most consumers are still unaware."

Cillian Xavier glanced at him sideways.

"You want to expose it?"

Warren Prescott stretched lazily.

"Luckily, I just got into the company to familiarize myself with the operations and have a bit of authority."

The Prescott Group is involved in many industries, including holding shares in the two biggest social apps online.

Just from these social app shares, Prescott Group earns over ten billion annually.

As a major shareholder, exposing the quality issues with Lynch Group’s new phone would be just a word for Warren Prescott.

Cillian Xavier gave a thumbs up.

"You’re ruthless. But don’t say I didn’t warn you, our families are long-standing associates, and if you do this, Mr. Lynch will surely approach your dad. Then..."

Warren Prescott chuckled coldly.

"Relax, Old Man Prescott is like a clay Buddha crossing the river, unable to protect even himself. He’s not in a position to manage me. And if Mr. Lynch goes to him, won’t I approach Old Man Prescott’s father?"

Given what he knew of his grandfather, his grandfather would definitely side with Ashley.

"What do you mean?"

Warren Prescott smiled without speaking and simply waved his hand, "I’m heading out. Since you’re replacing me at this party, see it through to the end."
