Chapter 147: Chapter 147: Enemies Meet on a Narrow Path
Damian Ford’s eyes immediately lit up.
Right, there’s also Cillian Xavier!
How could he have forgotten about Cillian Xavier?
Cillian Xavier had the best family background among them, apart from Warren Prescott. He was also very close to Warren and was an easygoing person.
In all these years, he had never seen Cillian Xavier show a dark face to anyone.
If he could help talk to Warren, maybe this matter could be easily smoothed over.
Thinking of this, Damian Ford scrambled up from the ground and walked over to Cillian Xavier.
"Archie... Brother Archie, can you help me talk to Warren? I was really just joking. And I already know it was wrong. Please, help me talk to Warren."
Cillian Xavier’s usual gentle demeanor vanished, and he looked at him expressionlessly.
"Don’t you have a mouth of your own?"
Damian Ford choked, his eyes widening in shock.
It was the first time he saw Cillian Xavier speak to anyone with such an expression and tone.
But he didn’t care; Cillian Xavier was his last hope.
"Brother Archie..."
But this time, before he could complete a sentence, Cillian Xavier directly threw out a word: "Get lost."
"Boom——" Damian Ford’s brain exploded again.
Even Cillian Xavier wouldn’t help him!
This time, he feared there was truly no room for negotiation.
But what on earth had happened? Didn’t everyone use to dislike Ashley Shaw, and didn’t Warren even lead the charge against her personally?
"Brother Archie..." Damian, the grown man, had reddened eyes, "I’m begging you, show me the way, and our Ford Family will owe you one."
Cillian Xavier tilted his head back and downed the Hennessy in his hand, finally speaking.
"Why ask me? Apologize to the one you offended yourself."
Though a bit of a rogue, Damian Ford was still somewhat smart and immediately understood Cillian Xavier’s meaning.
"Thank you, Brother Archie! If you ever need my help with anything in the future, just let me know."
"Are you still not leaving?"
"I won’t disturb you any longer!"
Damian Ford quickly got up and, after hesitating for a moment, walked over to Warren Prescott.
"Warren..."
Warren didn’t respond to him, continuing to watch the dice game on the other side.
Damian Ford gritted his teeth and said, "Warren, I’m going to find Miss Shaw to apologize," then turned and rushed out.
Warren glanced at Damian Ford’s departing figure without expression, then shifted his gaze to Cillian Xavier not far away.
His eyes carried a hint of amusement: "Archie, you really know how to handle things."
"We’re all brothers; there’s no need to go to extremes."
Warren barely curled his thin lips.
"Are you saying that sending Ashley Shaw to Leo’s bed would be taking things to the extreme?"
"He doesn’t have the guts for that."
"I don’t care if he has the guts; if he even has the thought, he should be dead."
Cillian Xavier said nothing more.
He didn’t want to deal with someone as foolish as Damian Ford, but the Xavier Family was currently negotiating a partnership with The White Family, so since nothing would happen, why go to extremes?
Everyone present clearly heard the two men’s conversation, but they all selectively ignored it and continued playing dice.
Soon after, Assistant Lowell walked in.
He leaned in beside Warren Prescott and said, "Warren, it’s almost six thirty. If you don’t have any other tasks for me, I’ll head out?"
"Go on." Warren didn’t even lift his eyelids, opening the dice cup in front of him.
"Six sixes! Damn, Warren!"
"Warren, we’re all pals here. Teach me that trick."
Assistant Lowell didn’t dare disturb them further and quickly stepped out.
Meanwhile, Ashley Shaw had already sat on Ariana Grant’s small scooter.
Ariana Grant took a shortcut, arriving faster than expected.
She glanced at the obviously expensive gift bag in Ashley Shaw’s hand, surprised, and asked, "You brought a gift?"
Ashley Shaw quickly explained, "No, didn’t you say a few days ago that I didn’t need to bring a gift, that you’d handle it?"
Ariana Grant caught on, "Oh, it’s for that brother you know. Just leave it on the scooter later, don’t bring it up, so there’s no misunderstanding. This gift is surely expensive, it’d be a shame to give it to her. Don’t be soft-hearted and end up giving it to her because you feel embarrassed going empty-handed."
"Relax, this is for Leo. Why would I give it to her?"
Mentioning Xavier Quincy, Ashley Shaw remembered what was said about the photo incident in his wallet back at the bar.
But she quickly brushed the thought aside and asked, "Where does your mom’s boyfriend live? Is it far?"
"Southgate District."
"Southgate, huh? I just delivered a cake there. The client wasn’t very polite; I had barely handed them the cake before they closed the door, nearly hitting my nose."
Ariana Grant widened her eyes.
"Wow? So rude?"
"It could just be the client was in a bad mood."
"It’s plain bad manners. Why take it out on the cake delivery person if they’re in a bad mood? But after what you said, isn’t it possible that your client was my mom’s boyfriend’s daughter? She’s not very polite either."
"I don’t think so... But isn’t it a bit awkward to call her like that? How do I address her later? Hello, Auntie’s boyfriend’s daughter?"
Ariana Grant chuckled.
"Just call out with me when we get there."
"Alright."
At half-past six, the small scooter stopped right in front of an old apartment building.
After parking, Ariana Grant turned her head and saw Ashley Shaw’s horrified expression.
She asked in confusion, "...What kind of face is that? You look like you’ve seen a ghost in broad daylight."
"I really have." Ashley Shaw pointed upstairs and asked, "Is it the fifth floor?"
"Yes, how did you... Wait, don’t tell me the place you delivered the cake to was here?"
Ashley Shaw smiled bitterly, "Exactly. Talk about running into your foe on a narrow path."
"Wow!" Ariana Grant swore and said, "Wait and see, I’ll find a chance to bump into her nose. With my build, if her plastic nose doesn’t turn into a pig’s snout, then all these muscles are for nothing."
Ashley Shaw laughed, "It’s enough that you said it. Let’s go."
Ariana Grant picked up the gifts she had prepared in advance.
Some of these gifts were purchased by her mother, meant for the boyfriend’s parents when they met, several bags in total.
Ashley Shaw was about to help when Ariana Grant refused.
"With your twig-like arms and legs, be careful not to strain yourself."
"It’s not that exaggerated."
As she stepped forward to take a basket of fruit, she tripped forward.
"So heavy..."
"I told you, be careful of breaking those chopstick-like arms of yours."
Ariana Grant effortlessly took the fruit basket from Ashley Shaw’s hands.
Ashley Shaw felt a bit embarrassed. Although she usually had more strength than the average girl, compared to Ariana Grant, she was like a weakling.
She obediently followed empty-handed.
At the door, the apartment door was half-open. Ashley Shaw was about to knock when she heard a complaining female voice from inside.
"Is my cousin coming or not? I’m waiting for him to make me look good."
