Chapter 337: Chapter 337: He’s Angry, Time to Soothe Him
Ashley Shaw was a bit puzzled.
She had no intention of taking what’s good for others; she was just going along with his words. Why did he get so upset?
Didn’t he say himself that having another dog would be troublesome?
Moreover, the convenience store owner did mention wanting to raise a golden retriever before.
As she was musing, Livia Sutton carefully moved closer to her and whispered, "Miss Shaw, Young Master Prescott seems angry."
"Hmm." She had noticed.
"Do you not know why he’s angry?"
Ashley Shaw turned to Livia Sutton and nodded truthfully.
"Yeah, his temper is really strange. You need to be careful when dealing with him. Who knows which words might set him off?" Ashley Shaw advised kindly.
Livia Sutton hastily explained, "Did you misunderstand? I don’t have that kind of interest in him."
"Huh?"
Livia whispered, "I have a boyfriend, but because his family background isn’t good, I don’t dare to let my dad know. But with Aunt Jennings, I can’t explain, so I... had to come over."
Before Ashley Shaw could respond, Livia Sutton continued, "Also, I have no hobby of taking what’s good for others! I can see that Young Master Prescott likes you. You two really match well together."
Ashley Shaw’s mind went blank, and she instinctively shook her head, "You got it wrong. Not only does he not like me, he really dislikes me."
Livia Sutton chuckled and said, "Miss Shaw, you’re lost in the situation. As an outsider, I can see it quite clearly!"
Ashley Shaw laughed self-deprecatingly.
If it weren’t for the failed emotional experiences in her past life, she might also have been mistaken by Warren Prescott’s attitude over the past two months.
But precisely because of her personal experiences, she was very clear that this was just an illusion.
She had already been a moth drawn to a flame once; getting burned again was just asking for it.
Livia Sutton added, "Besides, he wasn’t really angry just now."
"Huh? What do you mean?"
Livia Sutton pointed to the golden retriever and said, "This dog, it’s obvious he raised it for you. He actually just wanted you to say thank you, but you turned around and said you would give away the dog he raised for you. Tell me, if it were you, wouldn’t you be upset?"
Ashley Shaw couldn’t help but glance at the stairs, where there was no one.
What Livia Sutton said about Warren liking her, she didn’t agree with, because it was nonsense.
But what she said after made a lot of sense.
No matter the starting point, the result was that Warren did rescue this dog because of her.
Yet she didn’t even say a proper apology and instead mentioned giving the dog away.
It indeed... would be unsettling.
Livia Sutton observed Ashley Shaw’s expression, curling her lips slightly, said, "Looks like you understand now. Since you understand, go and soothe him. Let me tell you, no matter how old a man is, they’re like kids. Just coax them a bit, and they’ll immediately stop being angry."
Coax Warren Prescott?
She couldn’t do that.
But apologizing and thanking were indeed necessary.
"I’ll go up for a bit."
"Go on, go on!" Livia Sutton nudged her waist.
Ashley Shaw took a deep breath and walked upstairs.
She originally thought Elder Prescott was also upstairs, so she could greet him. However, when she passed by his room, she found the door open, but no one inside.
Puzzled, she decided to go to Warren’s room first.
The door was ajar.
It seemed the curtains were drawn, and the lights were off, leaving the room pitch black.
Ashley Shaw curled her fingers and knocked on the door.
"Warren?"
A cold, low voice came from inside, "Come in."
Ashley Shaw steeled herself and pushed the door open.
She saw Warren sitting by the window, back facing her, under the dim light.
The curtain was only slightly ajar, she had no idea what he was looking at.
But the room was filled with the smell of smoke, surrounded by smoke spirals, she felt almost like she was in a fairyland.
"... Why are you smoking so much?"
She remembered Warren did smoke, but his habit wasn’t heavy, and it wasn’t even close to when the timeline reached her past life.
Instead of answering, Warren asked, "Why are you here?"
Ashley Shaw originally wanted to state her purpose directly, but somehow, the words turned into, "I wanted to ask why Grandpa Prescott isn’t home. I didn’t see him when I went to his room just now."
Warren’s face, while still facing away from Ashley Shaw, darkened again.
He thought she was there to apologize.
Suppressing his frustration, Warren coldly said, "He doesn’t know you’re back, he’s teaching an outsider chess next door."
"Oh... that’s why."
"Is there anything else?"
After the previous night, she felt that saying "thank you" and "sorry" were words easily said.
But just now, with Livia Sutton using the word "coax," those words suddenly became difficult to utter.
Seeing her silent, Warren issued a direct order for her to leave.
"If there’s nothing else, you should leave first, and bring the old man back from next door."
Ashley Shaw gritted her teeth and said, "About earlier... I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have said that. And thank you for bringing the dog back. I said something that caused you so much trouble, and I feel really sorry about it, so at the time, I was thinking about whether to give the dog away. It wasn’t my intention not to appreciate your help."
Warren’s ears twitched slightly as he slowly turned his chair to face her.
At that moment, the powerful aura he exuded was almost overwhelming, evoking a feeling of submitting to the ground.
However, he revealed a teasing and wicked smile at the corner of his mouth.
"Is this what they call a slap and then a candy?"
Ashley Shaw shook her head, "No, you’re misunderstanding it."
"So it’s still my fault?"
"No, it’s my fault."
Warren surveyed her up and down, although it was hard to see clearly in the dim light, her tone indicated genuine remorse.
Yet, what truly upset him wasn’t the dog, but rather that she was able to chat so happily with Lizzy Sutton or Joyce Sutton.
A moment later, he asked, "What was the situation when you inquired about Joyce Sutton earlier?"
Back then, Ashley Shaw was evasive, but now, he was eager for an answer.
Before Ashley Shaw could speak, Warren added, "Just be honest with me, and the dog’s matter is settled."
Ashley Shaw couldn’t understand why the topic shifted to Joyce Sutton; this matter wasn’t related to Warren in the slightest.
But the matter with Joyce Sutton wasn’t anything secretive; after a moment’s hesitation, she truthfully explained the details.
Warren’s eyes showed a lively sparkle.
So, it wasn’t that she didn’t care about him at all, but she was getting along so well with Miss Sutton for Ariana Grant’s sake.
"Are you planning to get your friend to snuggle up to someone influential?"
"Yes," Ashley Shaw candidly replied, "Why not snuggle up to someone influential? The old saying goes, only fools don’t take advantage. Rather than snuggle up to Jade Coleman, who doesn’t even treat her like a person, why not embrace her wealthy stepmother?"
