Chapter 361: Chapter 361: You Admit It, You Like Her
When Ashley Shaw invited him and the old man over for dinner, she mentioned that after Ariana Grant’s court case was over, they would soon go to Aethelgard.
Now that the case is over, he wonders when exactly they plan to leave.
For some reason, he has a feeling that if he calls and asks her, she may not tell him when she’s leaving.
So he simply dialed Elder Prescott’s number.
Recently, Elder Prescott has been addicted to mobile games. It started with simple match-three games, but now he’s moved on to competitive card games, utterly absorbed.
When Warren Prescott called, Elder Prescott was in the middle of an online match.
Seeing Warren’s call, he unhesitatingly declined it, continuing his virtual battle.
Warren found it strange; why would he hang up on him?
Just as he was about to call again, Assistant Lowell knocked on the office door and walked in without waiting for a response.
"What happened?" Warren frowned.
"Mr. Prescott Jr., it’s not good, Miss Lynch is here again."
Warren’s frown deepened instantly.
He had made himself clear enough yesterday, so why was she here again?
"Tell her to leave. If she refuses, have security escort her out."
Assistant Lowell looked troubled and said, "Someone had allowed Miss Lynch up here, and now she’s at the elevator on this floor. And... she’s covered in injuries, looks like she was beaten."
Warren’s eyelid lifted unintentionally.
"Beaten?"
Assistant Lowell nodded, "And the injuries seem quite severe. If not for her right cheek being untouched, I wouldn’t have recognized her. Everyone on this floor is watching her. Maybe... you should take a look?"
Warren felt an indescribable irritation.
He stood up, grabbed the shirt hanging on the chair, and walked out briskly.
Before reaching the elevator, he saw Rosalind Lynch full of bruises.
A crowd surrounded her, all employees stopping to look at her injuries.
Warren gave Assistant Lowell a look, and Assistant Lowell immediately understood. He stepped forward loudly, "If you’re so idle, then stay back to work overtime today!"
The employees, seeing Assistant Lowell and then Warren standing not far away, scattered like startled animals and returned to their work.
Having already earned a wave of sympathy, Rosalind Lynch saw Warren approaching and immediately met him with teary eyes.
"Warren, please help me. I don’t want to die..."
Warren’s face showed no trace of emotion.
Once you see through a person, any subtle change in them is hard to escape your eyes.
Therefore, he easily saw the calculation beneath Rosalind’s pitiful facade.
She was trying to imitate Jude Crawford and Gaius Hawkins, hoping to soften him with a plea of suffering.
Unfortunately, he was neither Cao Cao nor Cao Xiu; such tactics had no effect on him.
A person only feels for another if they care about them.
If he didn’t care, not even severe injury or death would move him.
His feelings for Rosalind Lynch were of the latter sort.
He did have some sentimentality, but not much. His advice to Rosalind to leave the Lynch Family used up his last bit of "old feelings."
He spoke with a low, cold voice, "Seek a doctor if you’re ill, the police if you’re in trouble. Why seek me for help with your life?"
Rosalind’s already pale face turned even more bloodless.
It didn’t work...
None of it worked...
Warren spoke again, "Mark, escort her!"
"Yes."
Assistant Lowell stepped forward, making a "please" gesture to Rosalind Lynch, saying, "Miss Lynch, this way, please; I’ll escort you down."
Rosalind ignored him, remaining fixated on Warren.
"We’ve known each other for so many years, will you really leave me to die?"
Warren answered with an expressionless face, "What about that core technology Gavin Lynch intends to sell for three billion?"
Rosalind shivered at his words, and Warren continued, "I’m no fool; your life isn’t worth that to me. If he had asked for thirty million, perhaps I’d have considered it charity for your familial ties... But three billion? Do The Lynch Family think I’m a pig ripe for slaughter?"
"No..." Rosalind hastily shook her head, "Our family doesn’t mean that. The price, you can discuss it with my father."
"Ha—" Warren sneered, "I told you yesterday, your asset is worthless, and so is your face to me. You want me to talk price? Do you think I have such time to waste? Are you overestimating your importance?"
Warren’s words were as sharp as ever, and this time, tears poured from Rosalind’s eyes, genuinely making her cry with his ridicule.
At that moment, Warren’s phone rang—
Glancing at the caller ID, he saw the call was from Elder Prescott.
Waving his phone in a dismissive motion, "Leave before I lose my temper, or it’ll only make a scene; it’s you who’ll be embarrassed."
With that, he turned to head back to the office to answer the phone.
Rosalind’s sense of urgency rose.
"Warren!"
She hurried to intercept him, then fell to her knees with a heavy "thud."
It just happened that a few employees were in the pantry, fetching water, and witnessed the scene with surprise.
Rosalind, ever aware of her pride, had loathed seeing her mother kneel the other day, detesting this tactic. Yet now, she saw no other option.
Kneeling before Warren, tears streaming down her face, she pleaded, "Please, help me... I don’t want to die. If I return like this, my father will really beat me to death!"
Warren stepped back to avoid Rosalind’s reaching hand trying to grasp his pant leg.
Indeed, she looked pitiable now.
He wasn’t heartless, but he couldn’t muster any sympathy for Rosalind Lynch or The Lynch Family.
To put it bluntly, almost none of them were good people.
Then again, he wasn’t a good person either, so the wicked felt no sympathy for the wicked.
"Mark, show the guest out!"
Assistant Lowell moved in once more.
"Miss Lynch, please come with me now, or regrettably..."
Rosalind ignored him again.
She interrupted Warren, who was intent on leaving, shouting, "Are you really forcing me down this path? Are you really going to abandon me for a mere Ashley Shaw?! You weren’t like this before she came along! You used to treat me the best! What does she have that I don’t?"
Warren paused his steps slightly.
He turned his body slightly, his gaze icy as he looked at Rosalind.
"In my eyes, she’s a thousand, ten thousand times better than you. You’re not even worthy to mention her name."
Rosalind’s pupils momentarily went blank, her heart aching like it was pierced by needles.
Yet she laughed.
"You finally admitted it. You’ve fallen for her! Because of her, you don’t care if I live or die! How can you treat me like this? How dare you treat me like this!!"
From the elevator, Ashley Shaw was taken aback upon hearing this.
