Chapter 308: Chapter 308: Caring Leads to Confusion
Cillian Xavier originally intended to delay his visit to the hospital.
Even though he had accepted his fate, he wasn’t confident that he could always play the role of Ivy Bond’s boyfriend well.
He just didn’t expect a call from the neurology department head.
Apparently, Ivy Bond had caused trouble in the neurology inpatient unit, getting into a conflict with a nurse.
That’s what Lily Holt said.
"Young Master Xavier, I don’t mind being wronged a little, I can endure it."
"But I can’t guarantee everyone can tolerate it like I do."
"If one or two people can’t stand it and say a couple of truthful words in anger, I won’t be able to stop it. You’d better come quickly."
The hotel he was staying at was close, so he arrived in no time.
Who would have thought he’d run into Ashley Shaw and Ariana Grant just after they picked up their medication.
In the moment their eyes met, surprise flickered in Ashley Shaw’s eyes, and she instinctively moved to block Cillian Xavier, wanting to talk.
But it was too late; Cillian Xavier had already asked, "Are you okay?"
Ashley Shaw shook her head, mumbling, "I’m fine, you’re here to see Miss Bond, right? Go on, she seems to be waiting for you back in the ward."
Usually, Cillian Xavier could tell Ashley Shaw was deliberately avoiding his question, but now, his concern was clouding his judgment.
He took a few steps forward, standing before her.
"Did she do anything to you? Did you get hurt anywhere? Don’t hide it from me, tell me the truth."
Beside them, Ariana Grant suddenly looked at Ashley Shaw.
"What happened?"
Hearing this, Cillian Xavier realized that Ashley Shaw’s earlier hesitation wasn’t because she feared he’d worry, but because she was afraid her friend would worry.
Ashley Shaw knew she couldn’t hide it anymore, so she simply patted Ariana Grant’s shoulder, indicating she was fine.
Then she said to Cillian Xavier, "Nothing really, she just asked me to call you. She didn’t make things difficult for me."
"She..."
"It’s true, look at me, do I look like something happened?"
Ashley Shaw smiled a bit, then added, "Actually, Miss Bond is quite nice, she’s not the type to cause trouble."
Cillian Xavier carefully examined her, seeing no signs of injury, he finally felt a bit relieved.
"Today... I’m sorry. I promise this won’t happen again. I’m sorry."
"You don’t need to apologize. I’m really fine. Go on up, don’t keep her waiting. It’s important for patients to maintain a good mood."
Cillian Xavier still wanted to say something, but the word "patient" successfully diverted his attention.
"Then I’ll head up first. Thank you for today... and sorry again."
With that, Cillian Xavier nodded lightly at them and quickly walked past them into the hospital entrance.
Once Cillian Xavier left, Ariana Grant immediately asked, "What happened? Don’t try to hide it from me!"
With a helpless sigh, Ashley Shaw recounted the events.
Ariana Grant was instantly infuriated.
"I was wondering why you took so long, even if there were a lot of people in line, how many could there possibly be at this time at the emergency? So something did happen!"
Saying this, Ariana Grant shook her fist, "I should have gone with you! If she touches you, I’d make her pay back tenfold!"
Ashley Shaw hailed a taxi with her hand.
As she pushed Ariana Grant into the car, she said, "She’s a patient, let’s pretend nothing happened."
"So what if she’s a patient? Who isn’t a patient?"
Ariana Grant gestured to the bag full of medicines she was holding and then to the two boxes of antibiotics in Ashley Shaw’s hand.
Ashley Shaw sighed, "We’re not like her."
"How are we different? Unless she has cancer and is about to die? Seriously, it’s just a concussion, and she’s..."
Ashley Shaw interrupted her, "It’s actually cancer."
"... Huh?"
Ashley Shaw nodded.
"You heard right."
She briefly explained how Ivy Bond was diagnosed with brain cancer.
Ariana Grant opened her mouth wide and only managed to speak after a while.
"Forget it, let’s not stoop to her level."
"That’s right, let’s just go around her next time we see her."
Ashley Shaw pinched Ariana Grant’s chubby cheeks, and after settling in, she said to the driver, "Driver, to Shane Coleman’s law firm."
"Alright, sit tight!"
Once the car passed through the crowded hospital roads, it sped up and reached Shane Coleman’s law firm by 4 PM.
Since Ashley Shaw had called Shane on the way, by the time they got out of the car, Shane was already waiting at the entrance.
Ashley Shaw felt a bit embarrassed.
"I’m sorry, Attorney Coleman, for taking up your time."
Shane Coleman, thirty-two this year and still a single man, smiled charmingly upon hearing this.
"It’s no trouble. Waiting for beautiful ladies is never a waste of time. Come on in, both beautiful ladies."
Ariana Grant laughed, "It’s so rare to hear someone call me beautiful in this lifetime. I must be benefiting from Ashley’s glow."
Ashley Shaw teased, "Don’t listen to him. Lawyers are tricksters. After today, I’ll help you lose weight diligently so you can become a true beauty."
Ariana Grant raised her fist playfully at Ashley Shaw.
"You’re so annoying!"
This comment alone made Shane Coleman realize how close Ashley Shaw and Ariana Grant were.
Girls usually mind being called fat, but for Ashley Shaw to poke fun directly at it meant they were truly the best of friends.
He said, "Don’t believe everything Ashley says. A lawyer’s words are the most precise. Miss Grant, trust my judgment; in the Empyrean Dynasty, you’d be even more beautiful than Cleopatra."
Ariana Grant curled her lips.
"Can I take that as a compliment?"
"Of course, I’m truly complimenting you."
Ariana Grant huffed twice, showing she didn’t want to argue with him.
Once inside the office, Shane’s previously carefree demeanor turned serious as he explained the points to note during court and what she needed to communicate with her father beforehand.
He also recorded something for Ariana Grant that she would need in court.
By the time they finished all the formalities, it was already 5 PM.
"Attorney Coleman, do you have any plans later? If you’re free, Ashley and I would like to treat you to dinner," Ariana Grant said.
After discussing business, Shane Coleman returned to his laid-back manner.
"Being treated to dinner by two beautiful ladies, I’d make time even if I didn’t have any."
Then Shane suddenly changed the topic and asked, "But would you mind if I invite someone else too? A friend of mine, also a collaborator. He’s planning to have dinner with me tonight. If you don’t mind, I’d ask him to join us."
Ariana Grant nodded, "Of course not, the more, the merrier, right?"
"Alright, I’ll send him a message then."
Ashley Shaw seized the moment, "Can I also invite a friend? He’s my brother, just got back from abroad yesterday."
Shane replied, "Of course, didn’t Ariana say the more, the merrier? My friend and I love being in lively crowds. I’ll call him, you two wait by the garage door, I’ll bring the car around once I’m done."
"Okay." The two replied, heading outside.
Ashley Shaw knew Shane and Ariana wouldn’t mind, which is why she dared to arrange a meeting with Leo Quincy ahead of time.
So while Shane was calling his "friend," Ashley Shaw also called Leo Quincy to ask for his location.
