Chapter 12: Your fake concern
Sara was quick in averting her gaze from him. "You’ve got the wrong idea about that. I was here to explore since it was getting boring inside. I’ll take my leave."
She turned around to walk away when Luca stopped her.
"Wait!"
Sara halted at her place and found him moving to her. He got out of the pool and stood next to her.
"Why don’t you swim with me? It’s a good exercise to keep one’s body healthy," Luca suggested.
"No, thank you," Sara said. "I’ve to go somewhere. And if you allow me, then that will be much better." She lifted her head and met his gaze. The water droplets from the locks of his hair suddenly fell upon her cheeks. Her eyes fluttered and her heart raced when Luca wiped her cheeks.
"Sure, you can go. But I’ll accompany you," Luca stated. "We can have lunch outside. And we can plan where we should go for our honeymoon." A smirk spread across his lips.
"What?" Sara widened her eyes, confirming from him if what she heard was right.
"We have to plan our honeymoon," Luca stated.
"No, we don’t have to. I have to find a job for myself. And you won’t come in between my dreams," Sara clarified to him.
"Be my secretary. That’s the best job you can have. Also, it’s a good way to get close to Falcone Industries," Luca opined.
"No, thank you. I’m not listening to you this time. My life is already ruined. I don’t want it to get destroyed further," Sara pronounced, walking away.
Luca followed her, wearing his slippers and caught her hand. She stopped and shot a glare at him. The next second, she was in his arms, his hands wrapping around her when she hit on his chest.
"Let me go," Sara screamed, struggling.
"It won’t be fun to see you lose against your enemy," Luca stated. Bringing his fingers to her forehead, he brushed away the tiny stands of hair.
"You’re stuck with me for a year anyway. So, why not use this opportunity to get your company back. You should give it to me as per the deal. And since you can’t, at least, compensate for the loss by working for me. I’m not a bad hearted person, so I’ll even help you in finding out who schemed behind your back. I’ve power, and of course, more money and contacts than you."
"You’re again blackmailing me and forcing me to be your secretary," Sara said, her anger suddenly flaring.
"If I offer you nicely, you won’t agree," Luca said.
"Fine. I’ll be your secretary and trust me, you’re going to cry everyday. Also, you’ll pay me handsomely," Sara stated. Her money had burned in the last one month because of various reasons. Finding the truth was necessary too. Though Luca was annoying, he was useful for her.
"Don’t worry. You’ll be happy with your paycheck. I’m quite generous at those who are good at work," he stated. He slowly pulled away and found her dress was drenched thanks to him.
"Change into something better and see me in the living room," Luca said, walking past her.
Sara remained there for a few minutes before going back to the bedroom. She checked the closet and picked a modest attire. Changing into it, she wore the matching pair of earrings and looked at herself in the mirror.
Taking a deep breath, she put on the heels and stepped back into the room. Her eyes dropped to Luca’s back, who was standing in front of the mirror. He was in a casual attire, but looked nice even from behind.
Suddenly, a phone’s ring abrupted the silence. Sara realized it was her phone and rushed to the bedside table. She checked the caller ID and furrowed her brows together.
"Frida?"
"Sara, sorry for not calling you earlier. Dad has restricted all of us. Even Grandma wanted to see you, but he didn’t allow her," Frida asserted.
"You shouldn’t call me. Dad has... He threw me out of that family," Sara said with a heavy heart.
Luca heard them talk and shook his head. ’Why she’s so good to Frida? She still didn’t believe me when I tell her Asher and Frida were banging behind her back.’
"Yes, I heard. But there must be a way to please Dad. You are his pride. He can’t throw you away like that. Also, have you heard about Asher? He was in the police station last night. Your husband filed a complaint against him."
"What?" Sara exclaimed in shock and turned around.
"Yes, Sara. He couldn’t call you but he called me. Then, he asked me if I could ask you to help him this once. Your husband is the reason Dad is upset from you. Luca isn’t a trustworthy man. Yet, you went to him to take his help."
"I’ll talk to you later," Sara said and hung up the call.
"Explain yourself. Why Asher is in the police station?" Sara questioned, lowering her hand to her side.
"He tried ruining my wedding," Luca said, tucking his hands into the pocket of his pants.
"Take back the complaint," Sara said.
"That’s not happening," Luca affirmed, turning to the door.
"Luca, are you serious? That was between me and my ex. You can’t intervene and act in your way," Sara stated.
"He falsely accused you for something you never did," Luca remarked. "Don’t become his lawyer and argue for him. I hate it when my wife speaks of another man."
Sara bit her bottom lip and shook her head. "Stop showing your fake concern toward me, Luca. I know you want to hurt me. I’m already in pain. So, don’t add more. Please, I beg you."
"Why exactly are you even in pain? I told you that fucker was banging your sister behind your back. How can you be so naive?" Luca growled, feeling agitated.
"Asher isn’t a jerk like you," Sara said. "Nevermind. I’ll go to the police station myself," she murmured. As she crossed him, Luca grabbed her wrist.
"You never trust me, don’t you?" He peered into her eyes, questioning her.
"Yes, I don’t trust you. And I will never trust you," Sara replied firmly.
