Chapter 79: G-general Mo?

Chapter 79: G-general Mo?

Just like Mo Lan had said, three days before the wedding, a carriage from the Mo family had arrived to pick Lin Xu together with Yan Mei and some of her other workers.

The ride was long, but soon they arrived at the huge residence.

Bigger than she had imagined. Yan Mei gasped beside her as she muttered, "Lin Xu, truly the houses of these nobles are huge... look at this gigantic residence. The entire Wu Village can literally fit in it."

Lin Xu shook her head as she smiled slightly.

[ Host, looks like your baby father is a rich one. Sure you won’t rethink your decision and just approach him instead? ]

Susu appeared before Lin Xu as she whispered in her heart. No one else could see the white ball, only Lin Xu.

"Shut it!" Lin Xu used her hands to smack the small ball.

[ Host! You’re so mean! ]

Susu cried in pain. She was truly regretting her decision of updating.

Soon a maid stepped outside to receive them. "You must be the caterers from Weilai Pavilion?"

Lin Xu nodded. "Yes."

"Alright, please follow me..." The maid directed Lin Xu and the rest as they stepped into the huge residence.

"The wedding will be taking place at the East Wing of the residence. You and your staff will be staying at the cooks’ quarters near the main kitchen. All the ingredients have been provided."

"Although the wedding is in three days’ time, some important guests have already arrived and are already staying at the residence, so you will have to prepare regular meals for everyone till the wedding day."

"Yes, I’m aware. So far you give me the food schedule, I’ll get it all prepared."

The maids took Lin Xu and the others all the way to the cooks’ quarters.

They got a personal room. Not too grand but very much comfortable.

"Preparation for dinner will start soon. The general will also arrive with his future wife soon, so it must be prepared nicely."

With that, the maids bowed slightly before turning around to leave. With her gone, Lin Xu and Yan Mei exchanged looks before breathing in relief.

"Sigh! Just one wedding and they’re being so strict and sassy," Yan Mei took her seat at the small table in front of their quarters.

Sitting opposite her, Lin Xu just smiled, "This is what to expect from families like this."

**

After resting for about three hours, Lin Xu, Yan Mei, together with their staff, made their way to the main kitchen to start making dinner.

Since it was dinner, they would be making several exquisite dishes fit for nobles — Her signature braised Meat with ginger sauce, lotus root soup, spiced duck, stir-fried greens with mushrooms, and delicate moon buns for dessert.

The kitchen was enormous, far larger than anything Lin Xu had ever worked in before. Rows of servants moved about briskly, chopping vegetables, carrying trays, and boiling broth in large copper pots. The air was thick with the scent of spices and roasted meat.

"Wow..." Yan Mei whispered in awe. "This kitchen alone could feed the whole Wu Village for a week."

Lin Xu rolled up her sleeves and smiled faintly. "Then let’s make sure the nobles have no complaints tonight. We’ll handle the main courses; the rest can prepare the side dishes!"

After they were done, the servants in charge of serving placed the dishes gently on the trays and started carrying them one by one.

"High five, Lin Xu! We nailed it!" Yan Mei brought out her hand as Lin Xu smacked their palms together with a satisfied smile.

A maid then walked towards them. "You did a great job. We tasted the dishes, and they were wonderful. We don’t know what the masters will think about it, but they will surely love it."

"Thank you!"

"You both can retire back to your quarters. We’ll take the rest from here."

And they did just like she said. As they walked out of the kitchen, Lin Xu was suddenly in the mood to stroll.

"Yan Mei, let me walk around a little. You can head back to the quarters; I won’t take long."

Tired, Yan Mei nodded. "Alright, please don’t go too far."

"Okay." With that, Lin Xu turned and passed a different route while Yan Mei dragged her drowsy body back to their sleeping quarters.

The Mo residence had something quite beautiful about it — maybe it was the purple trees that were almost everywhere or the polished wooden interior.

Maids moved back and forth as the entire residence was lit with different lanterns, making it so breathtaking.

Lin Xu, dressed in a light green hanfu, looked extra beautiful tonight. Her long brown hair was decorated with a silver hairpin, which made her look simple, elegant, and natural.

She swung her hands back and forth, lost in her own thoughts. She didn’t realize when she arrived at the main entrance.

"Sigh! Guess I did walk too far," she whispered to herself, about to turn around when just then, some maids and male servants rushed towards the main door.

The maids and male servants quickly lined up on both sides of the entrance as a few of them pushed open the huge main doors.

Lin Xu, curious, leaned slightly to peek through the crowd.

The moment her eyes caught sight of who was entering, her entire body froze.

It was him.

Mo Ying.

Even though he looked different, there was no mistaking that face. He was dressed in a dark purple robe embroidered with gold, his long black hair tied neatly behind his head. He looked calm, noble, even colder than she remembered.

Her breath caught in her throat.

[ Host... isn’t that Mo Ying? ] Susu’s small voice whispered in her ear.

Lin Xu couldn’t even answer.

Her fingers curled slightly against her robe as she stared. Just a few months, and he had changed so much.

And then she saw her.

A woman stepped gracefully beside him, dressed in a stunning crimson hanfu that shimmered under the lantern light. Her long black hair draped over her shoulders, and her pale skin made the red of her dress stand out even more. She held onto Mo Ying’s arm softly, her smile calm and full of pride.

The sight hit Lin Xu like a wave.

Suddenly, the maids and servants all bowed down as they said in unison, "Welcome home, General Mo and Princess San."

"G-General Mo?"
