Chapter 60: Chapter 60
After they had finished eating, Lin Xu went on ahead to start washing the fish in the kitchen as the kids both assisted her except Mo Bao, who felt sleepy due to the incident earlier today.
"Fuhan!" Mo Ying said softly as Fuhan raised his eyes to look at his master, who was seated in front of him.
"Yes, Young Master," he moved a Go piece.
"I want you to make an inquiry about someone for me. It’s in a village not far from here." Mo Ying placed his own Go piece on the board.
"Who is that person, Young Master, and why do you want to find them suddenly?"
"That’s something I’ll explain another day. Once we are done with the wedding, you have to leave for that village immediately."
"I’ll tell you more details later. Ah! I won!" Mo Ying laughed out as he placed the last Go piece, causing Fuhan to just sigh in defeat.
"It’s not something to feel too happy about. You’re an aristocrat... all these games are something you’re used to," Fuhan argued.
"Well... aristocrat or not, I won, and that’s all that sincerely matters. Wanna play again?"
"No!" Fuhan stood up immediately and made his way out.
And immediately he left, Mo Ying’s face grew cold as he stared at the kitchen, which was opposite the courtyard table.
From there, he could see Lin Xu as she and the kids laughed and washed the fish.
’There’s no way you’re her, right, Lin Xu?’ he thought as he then stood up and left.
The next day, as early as five, Lin Xu had started cooking. Later, Mo Ying joined in, and they all assisted.
Zu Shi even surprised them by bringing in some of her workers to help with the cooking.
Lin Xu was able to deliver meat to the Yun restaurant, which earned her 70 taels. And the Song family delivered a down payment of 1000 taels for the ingredients. But with her Supermarket System, the ingredients and meats necessary were cheaper than those of the market.
In total, she only spent 300 taels for the things needed to make the meat, together with the packaging and delivery.
And before they knew it, the wedding day arrived.
"Here you all go!" Lin Xu placed down a basket of clothes.
"What’s all this, Mama?" Yiling asked curiously as Lin Xu took some clothes out of the basket and handed them to her.
"I did some shopping and got us nice clothes for Yan Mei’s wedding. I picked quite nicely."
"Wow, so pretty!" Mo Bao stared at Yiling’s small light green hanfu in awe.
"Yes, it is. It matches her skin perfectly," Mo Yuen complimented as he patted his smiling sister.
While the kids were admiring their own clothes, Lin Xu then brought out a dark green robe from the basket and handed it over to Mo Ying.
"Here! I got you one too." She said, her face slightly pink as he stared at her, surprised.
"You got me one as well? Where’s all this kindness coming from? Don’t tell me you’ve fallen for me already?" He teased her as usual, a smirk plastered across his face.
Frowning, Lin Xu just rolled her eyes. "Fallen for you? Keep dreaming, Mo Ying. I only bought it because you’ll look suspicious showing up in your usual black robe. People might think you came to the wedding to kidnap the bride."
Mo Ying chuckled, clearly amused. "Oh? So you’re worried about how I’ll look? That sounds a little like concern to me."
Lin Xu crossed her arms. "Believe whatever you want. Just wear it, alright?"
She turned away before he could tease her further, pretending to check the cooking pots even though her cheeks were slightly flushed.
Mo Ying smirked as he unfolded the robe. The fabric was simple yet well-made, and he could tell she had gone out of her way to choose it for him. "Hmm... not bad," he murmured.
Yiling giggled from the side. "Mama, your face is red."
"Red? No, it’s just the fire from the stove," Lin Xu quickly replied, turning her back to them.
Mo Yuen and Mo Bao exchanged mischievous looks. "Mama’s shy~" they sang in unison, laughing.
"Enough! All of you, go get ready before I change my mind and make you stay home!" Lin Xu scolded, but her voice lacked its usual bite.
Mo Ying leaned back against the post, watching her with a faint smile tugging at his lips. There was something about this woman, her stubbornness, that amused him.
"Fireball," he said to himself as Fuhan stepped into the courtyard with a fishing hook and a basket full of fish.
"Brother Fuhan is here!" Mo Bao announced as Lin Xu immediately stopped what she was doing and went to welcome him. Handing over to Mo Yuen the basket of fish, she then faced him with a sweet smile.
"Fuhan, Yan Mei brought you a robe to use for the wedding today. It’s in your room. Freshen up and get dressed so we can all go."
"I’m not g—" before Fuhan could finish his words, Mo Ying placed his hand over his shoulder in a more threatening way.
"Don’t worry, he’ll do that immediately... you guys should go get ready so we can leave early!" Mo Ying reassured as Lin Xu nodded, taking the kids along with her to get dressed.
With her gone, Mo Ying then removed his hand from Fuhan as he faced him with a faint smile.
"Lin Xu is so happy, don’t ruin it with your bad energy... You don’t want her to be surprised if she were to see you at the residence later, do you?"
Frowning, Fuhan responded, "I was going to go. I just wanted to tell her that I wouldn’t be needing the cloth."
"Ah! Too bad." Mo Ying smiled and walked away.
Soon they were done and they all made their way out and Fuhan? He has no other choice but to wear the robe yah Mei had gotten for him.
