Chapter 76: Chapter 76: Take It Back
But, no matter how she thought about it, Mrs. Fu just felt that since Jiang Xin had married into the family, her assets should include a share for her son.
So now, with Jiang Xin spending money extravagantly, what if she spends all the savings she has in her pocket?
When her son comes back and divorces her, during the division of the couple’s joint property, what if Jiang Xin has no money left?
By then, will the money her son earned also be taken away by Jiang Xin? How unfair that would be!
Even though Jiang Xin had only been married into the family for a few days and hadn’t eaten many meals with them, wasn’t she supposed to pay some expenses for living in their house?
Now, everything Jiang Xin does just irks Mrs. Fu.
She can’t wait to strip Jiang Xin of everything, but no matter what, when they divorce, her family should not suffer any loss.
She can’t let an outsider like Jiang Xin take advantage for free.
Mrs. Fu was plotting in her mind, thinking that when Jiang Xin goes out later and walks far enough away, she would sneak into Jiang Xin’s room.
She would take a few pieces of those brand-new clothes, with tags still on them, from Jiang Xin’s wardrobe to give to her nieces from her birth family.
Anyway, Jiang Xin has so many clothes that she can’t wear all of them, and they just take up space in the wardrobe. Besides, it’s a waste, so she might as well help Jiang Xin handle a few.
With so many clothes, Jiang Xin might not even notice, and even if she does, she has no evidence to prove Mrs. Fu took them. Jiang Xin would have no choice but to swallow the bitter pill.
Coincidentally, one of her nieces just turned eighteen this year, right at the age of discussing marriage.
Her family is poor, her brother is not competent, and can’t earn much money, so her niece, at eighteen, is still wearing patched-up clothes.
Yesterday, when she rifled through Jiang Xin’s wardrobe, she saw that the new clothes in Jiang Xin’s wardrobe were of the highest quality.
She’s lived for most of her life, and it was her first time seeing clothes made of such fine material, even the fabric itself felt unusually smooth.
Wearing them would surely look nice.
Although Mrs. Fu dislikes Jiang Xin, she must admit that Jiang Xin indeed has a good appearance, her looks are nothing short of stunning.
But her niece from her birth family doesn’t look bad either.
She just lacks a good family background. If dressed up, she could surely be beautiful.
If she could take out a few pieces from Jiang Xin’s closet for her niece to wear.
Having these few new clothes to wear.
Her niece could have some confidence when it’s time for matchmaking; after all, people are judged by their appearances, just like horses by their saddles. Dressed up nicely, maybe she could find a good match.
If Jiang Xin finds out about her stealing the clothes and causes a huge commotion, it wouldn’t matter; Mrs. Fu wouldn’t be scared of her. She has the right on her side.
Besides, she didn’t believe Jiang Xin could remember every single piece in her wardrobe.
By then, if Jiang Xin claims she’s missing clothes, Mrs. Fu would just say that Jiang Xin has so many clothes that she couldn’t keep track, and misplacing them is entirely possible. Mrs. Fu would never admit to stealing.
When she thought about what she was about to do, Mrs. Fu felt a bit guilty and shot a sideways glance at Jiang Xin, but then realized her action was unnecessary.
Jiang Xin, that sly young girl, would surely associate her expression with something suspicious.
She is Jiang Xin’s mother-in-law after all, and right now, Jiang Xin is part of the Fu Family. Since they haven’t divorced yet, everything about Jiang Xin should be under her control.
If she has nothing better to do and helps her daughter-in-law deal with a few old clothes, what’s the harm?
With this thought, Mrs. Fu instantly gathered confidence, feeling she needn’t be guilty nor afraid, and wouldn’t need to lie if Jiang Xin discovered her clothes missing. She’d just tell the plain truth.
Mrs. Fu doesn’t believe that any daughter-in-law has such boldness to dare beat their mother-in-law.
All because of a few old clothes.
If this matter was spread around, nobody would take Jiang Xin’s side, and the villagers would drown her with their words.
Feeling emboldened, Mrs. Fu shot Jiang Xin a contemptuous glance, then swallowed the words she was going to use to advise Jiang Xin to spend less money.
Though her thoughts were extreme, she knew she was being unreasonable.
Jiang Xin wasn’t blind, and naturally, she noticed the strange expression Mrs. Fu had when looking at her. The rapid change in Mrs. Fu’s expression was admittedly perplexing.
Of course, Jiang Xin had no interest in figuring out what Mrs. Fu was thinking.
She just sensed there was malice brewing in Mrs. Fu’s eyes.
There might just be some malicious scheme she’s planning to involve her in.
Jiang Xin felt a chill in her heart and thought if Mrs. Fu bothers her again tonight when she returns, she’d surely have a showdown with Mrs. Fu.
She wanted to show Mrs. Fu that she wasn’t someone to be trifled with!
Jiang Xin closed her eyes for a moment, suppressing the irritation in her heart, and quietly walked out of the courtyard.
Over there, Mrs. Fu was keeping an eye on Jiang Xin’s every move, and seeing her stride out of the courtyard, she only retracted her gaze once Jiang Xin was out of sight.
Mr. Fu had always been observing the dynamic between Jiang Xin and Mrs. Fu. Seeing that the two hadn’t started bickering as soon as they met today, unlike before, Mr. Fu let out a sigh of relief.
If it escalated to the situation like last night, he really wouldn’t be able to manage it.
But, after all, they’ve been married for many years.
From just one glance from Mrs. Fu, Mr. Fu could guess what nasty idea she was cooking up in her mind.
It surely wouldn’t be anything good.
Otherwise, Mrs. Fu wouldn’t keep staring at Jiang Xin’s back.
Mr. Fu thought it over, and to prevent any conflict between Mrs. Fu and Jiang Xin, he decided to remind Mrs. Fu, saying:
"Let me say the ugly truth first, the village chief already advised our family yesterday."
"A harmonious family will prosper. You, at your age, shouldn’t be bickering with a child like Jiang Xin."
"Quarreling every day, aren’t you tired?"
"I don’t care what kind of malice you’re brewing, just swallow it quickly."
