Chapter 279: 279 Co-signed Protest Letter
Franzel family’s private residence, the top-floor office.
At this moment, Reiger and Yuri were sitting opposite each other, one with his gaze fixed as though seeing nothing, the other staring intently as if looking at an unscrupulous scoundrel.
By their side, Liz and Marilyn were also present, one standing behind Reiger, holding a sword with a tense expression, the other standing behind Yuri, sharing Yuri’s gaze that seemed to view Reiger as a criminal.
The entire office had thus fallen into an eerie silence under these circumstances.
"It was you, wasn’t it?"
After a long while, Yuri was the first to break the silence.
Though her words sounded like a question, her tone was full of certainty.
"What?"
Reiger tried to feign ignorance, showing an innocent expression, which only garnered an eye roll from Yuri.
"You still want to hide it from me?" Yuri reproached, "You had dinner with someone from the Liya Family, discussing matters about the third prince, and then this incident happened within two days. Do you think I wouldn’t suspect it was your doing?"
"The assault on Prince Solok, causing him serious injuries, even near death, such a drama, capable of piercing through the royal family from front to back, who else would dare to do that besides you?"
"You really have guts. And here I was, not planning to inquire what you and that member of the Codelion Family discussed, yet you cause such a disaster. What am I supposed to say about you?"
"Have you really been instigated by the Codelion Family? What exactly did Saint Charia say to you?"
Yuri became more agitated the more she spoke; if it weren’t for the desk between them, she might have already grabbed hold of Reiger’s shoulders.
Reiger found himself grinning at Yuri’s reaction.
"I didn’t intentionally keep it from you. The fewer people know about the matter, the better, as it’s least likely to expose any flaws," Reiger said calmly with a smile. "It’s just a mad dog, isn’t it? What’s the big deal if it hasn’t been successfully killed?"
"...Only you would dare to say that. Even in private, others wouldn’t be so brazen," Yuri said with a complex expression. After sighing, she spoke to Reiger, "But you’ve really created a mess this time. I’ve received news that before dawn broke, many nobles, whether affiliated with the Duke’s faction or those without a clear stance, were summoned to the palace one after another for questioning by the royal family."
"Whether it’s Dukes or Marquises, all nobles can’t escape, and even some of the big nobles of the royalist faction were interrogated. Smaller nobles had it even worse—without exception, all were subjected to Magic such as Memory Reading, mental interference, or mind control directly by the court magicians."
"The common folk didn’t escape the calamity either. The kingdom’s Knights are searching house by house, and anyone suspicious is taken away without exception, none spared."
"The capital is in chaos now. Those siblings from the Codelion Family entered the palace not long ago, and I suppose it won’t be much longer before I’m summoned too," Yuri said.
In practical terms, Yuri informed Reiger of the extent the situation had escalated.
Instantly, Liz was successfully frightened, unable to help but cast a worried look towards Reiger.
However, Reiger seemed to have anticipated all this, his expression unchanged.
"They wouldn’t use Magic like Memory Reading or mental interference on you, would they?" Reiger only seemed concerned about that.
"Who do you think I am?" Yuri rolled her eyes at Reiger again, saying irritably, "No matter what, I’m a strategist-level magician. If they were to use that kind of Magic directly on me, are they asking for trouble?"
As a strategist-level magician, Yuri’s mastery of Magic was many times that of an average magician.
For a magician of her caliber, she could reflexively deflect immature interference Magics with her Magic Power; if she were prepared, even tactical-level interference Magics would be rebounded by Yuri’s own Magic.
To read the memory of a magician of Yuri’s level, to interfere with her mind and spirit, would require at least an equally ranked magician to cast the Magic, or a legendary Magic artifact targeting her, to potentially be effective.
Furthermore, considering Yuri’s status, using such harmful Magics on her at will, even the King would not dare to issue such an order.
Therefore, it was impossible for Yuri to be subjected to Memory Reading or mental interference.
"That’s good," Reiger nodded, "Since that’s the case, you don’t have to worry about anything. No matter what the royal family asks you, just say you don’t know."
Yuri knew what she had to do even without Reiger telling her.
What else could she do?
Was she supposed to report Reiger?
She herself would have been delighted to see that mad dog dead; how could she possibly help the royal family find the culprit?
The only issue was...
"What about you?" Yuri looked directly at Reiger and asked, "What do you plan to do?"
Indeed, the real problem was not with Yuri but with Reiger, the direct culprit behind the assault.
He was the target of the royal family, the one being searched for by the kingdom.
"I can guess it was you who acted, and the royal family will surely suspect you," Yuri said, not without worry, "What if they resort to forceful measures, try to read your memory, interfere with your spirit, what would you do then?"
To Yuri’s concern, Reiger merely responded with a reassuring expression.
"If they can manage that, good for them."
Reiger was very calm when he said this.
With the effect of the "Self-redemption" skill right there, immune to physical and mental interference, who could possibly read Reiger’s memories or interfere with his mind and spirit?
Not to mention direct interference, even indirect hypnosis was out of the question.
After all, because of the "Endless" skill effect, Reiger possessed the highest level of ’Abnormal Resistance’ capability.
As a result, Reiger wasn’t worried about being taken advantage of by such means at all.
Reiger also believed that the Codelion family would not fall victim to this kind of interference.
The Duke Faction was the royal family’s rival faction; how could they possibly be unprepared for such methods?
In other words, as long as Yuri didn’t reveal anything and no one present revealed anything, then Reiger wouldn’t be exposed.
As for Liz and Marilyn, they were Attendants, subject to the Attendant contract, which meant that all information related to their master’s interests was restricted, and no one could use magic to obtain it successfully.
At least, if someone wanted to break through the restrictions of the Attendant contract and forcibly use magic to obtain information known by the Attendant, their mastery in magic had to be stronger than that of Reiger and Yuri, the masters who had put the contract in place.
What did this imply?
It meant that if the magician was not of strategic level, then there was absolutely no chance of breaking through the contract magic of Reiger and Yuri.
Reiger was already at Lv.6, with a not-so-low ’Magic Guidance’ development capability and a ’Magic Power’ potential that was accumulated to an extremely high level. The strength of the Attendant contract he cast was definitely unbreakable by anyone less than a strategic level magician.
Yuri, needless to say, was an openly strategic level magician without any dilution—a magician of the same level would certainly be unable to tamper with the contract magic she had cast.
Furthermore, magic that could affect oneself or others belonged to interference magic.
In other words, the magician who attempted to tamper had to be a strategic level magician specializing in interference magic.
Unfortunately, of the eight strategic level magicians on the continent today, four specialized in transformation magic, two in control magic, two in construction magic, and there were none specializing in interference magic.
In light of this, there was no one in this world who could tamper with the contracts magic of Reiger and Yuri.
With this assurance, Reiger had no worries at all that anyone here would slip up.
He himself was confident that he had not exposed his identity during the attack on Solok.
Keep in mind that he had made the most of the Transparent World, completely sealing off his aura and fighting spirit, and he had not used magic from beginning to end, leaving no trace of Magic Power.
And with the essence of the Shadow Strike Sword Skill merged into his Breath of Mist technique, Reiger could avoid almost all detection, making the possibility of his exposure virtually zero.
The royal family might suspect him seriously, but they certainly couldn’t confirm it was him, or find evidence proving Reiger was the assailant.
Under such circumstances, Reiger really didn’t believe that he would be caught.
Besides, even if he was indeed caught, so what?
He would simply flee far away.
With Reiger’s current strength, he might not be the strongest and most invincible being in this world, but if he really wanted to escape, the kingdom would not be able to stop him without deploying a massive dragnet.
If he wasn’t worried about implicating Yuri and the Liya Family, Reiger would have brushed off his hands and walked away right after assassinating Solok, regardless of whether his identity was exposed or not.
"As long as you have a sense of proportion, that’s good," Yuri said.
Seeing Reiger’s lack of concern, she seemed a bit relieved too.
She had great trust in Reiger’s abilities and knew that if he was so confident, then the chances of being exposed must indeed be very low.
As long as there was no exposure, that was all that mattered.
Yuri was definitely on Reiger’s side anyway, and she even felt some schadenfreude about the royal family’s predicament.
Helpless, during the last attack on the Liya family estate, the royal family had to turn a blind eye for public relations’ sake. This time, with the prince being the victim, Yuri naturally wanted to give tit for tat.
Not only would she not cooperate, but she was also planning to stir up trouble.
"Do you want to join me in suing the third prince?" Yuri suddenly turned to Reiger and smiled slyly.
"That one sneaked out of the royal palace at midnight for those people he had kidnapped. This has become common knowledge with the exposure of the incident. As a direct stakeholder, you totally have the right to protest to the royal family as a victim, right?" she said.
Upon hearing this, Reiger was initially taken aback.
Then, he raised his thumb.
"That makes sense."
Thus, Reiger and Yuri co-signed a letter and sent it back to the royal palace, lodging a strong protest.
This incident once again caused a stir in the capital.
