Chapter 321: 321 ’Erjing: Yueying
"Charge, my army of the undead!"
Amidst Kajit’s haughty cry, one undead after another began to slowly reveal themselves from behind him.
There were at least a hundred zombies in their number.
They had the appearance of humans, but their flesh was incomplete and rotted, growling like beasts as they staggered toward Reiger en masse.
Seeing this undead army composed of zombies, Reiger set aside, Clementine clapped her hands in delight.
"Well done, little Kajit. You managed to create so many undead without a word—what’s the count, one hundred fifty?"
Kajit was a necromancer specialized as a Magic Singer; in this regard, he was of the same type as Ainz.
Of course, Kajit didn’t possess the necromantic prowess of Ainz, especially not the terrifying instant-death necromancy spells.
But Kajit was an expert at manipulating the undead.
His army was created using ’Create Undead,’ a third-tier magic spell that could generate or create undead using corpses as a medium, making the undead serve him.
However, as it was only a third-tier magic spell, ’Create Undead’ typically allowed only for individual creation, meaning it could usually create only one undead at a time.
For Kajit to amass an undead army of over one hundred fifty, it was evident that he must have lurked here for a substantial period, slowly accumulating that many undead.
Clementine’s applause, however, was meant for Kajit’s ability to simultaneously control over one hundred fifty undead.
Indeed, necromancy could create undead, but creation was one thing and control another.
Like Reiger, he could also create no fewer than a thousand combat-ready automata, but he could adeptly control only about a hundred of them.
Commanding summoned creatures and magical constructs required considerable magical expertise.
Necromancers faced the same issue; the number of undead they could control, created using spells like ’Create Undead,’ depended entirely on their personal strength.
The stronger the undead created, the fewer one could control.
If the created undead were weak, then the number that could be controlled was limited as well.
Zombies were the lowest tier of the undead and a necromancer with decent strength could easily control dozens, but controlling one hundred fifty at once was challenging, even for someone skilled like Kajit.
He managed it only because of the magical artifact in his possession—the Treasure Bead of Death.
It was an artifact with several necromantic effects.
It could accumulate negative energy, summon undead, and even amplify certain necromantic spells, enhancing the wielder’s control over the undead.
Thanks to it, Kajit could command and control over a hundred undead and direct them in battle.
Furthermore, because of the Treasure Bead’s power, Kajit had obtained undead far stronger than ordinary zombies.
Those were the two huge shadows that emerged behind the zombie horde.
They were about ten meters tall, like two ferocious beasts.
Composed entirely of bones, with long necks, thick limbs, bone wings, and long tails.
If they were covered in flesh, they would become a creature well known in legends—a dragon.
"Roar!"
"Roar!"
The two skeleton dragons spread their bone wings and whipped their long tails, roaring with open mouths in Reiger’s direction.
"Haha! Do you see this?"
As the two skeleton dragons appeared, Kajit’s confidence seemed to swell, and he couldn’t help but laugh aloud.
"These bone dragons possess absolute resistance to magic, powerful undead difficult to find even if you search the entire plains!
"And I have two of them!"
"This is the power of the Treasure Bead of Death!"
Kajit raised the bead towards Reiger.
"Before E-Rantel becomes a City of Death, let me feed you to these skeleton dragons!"
Upon hearing this, Clementine immediately protested.
"Didn’t you agree to give him to me, little Kajit?"
Clementine boldly objected to Kajit, who had summoned the two confident skeleton dragons, as though the massive undead didn’t even register in her eyes.
"Hmph." Kajit showed his disgust to Clementine again and retorted, "He could interfere with my ritual. Now that he’s found us, naturally, we must take this chance to eliminate him."
"If you’re not satisfied, then join in with my army of the undead."
Hearing this, Clementine muttered irritably.
"I’m not going to play around with undead, it feels like it would lower my standards."
Clementine stared at Kajit with a look that suggested she was contemplating whether to kill her fellow hunter who planned to steal her prey, before taking her time with Reiger.
Unfortunately, Kajit didn’t notice, and Reiger paid it no mind.
He simply looked at the groaning zombies approaching and the skeleton dragons roaring in the wind, slowly resting his hand on the handle of his sword at his waist.
"This is the graveyard of E-Rantel. If we lose it, many of the dead might not find peace and become like these things, no?"
Reiger watched the gathering zombies, his voice light but echoing clearly around him.
"Out of respect for the graveyard, I shall abstain from using magic."
"As a replacement, let me show you a power that does not exist in this world."
"Don’t blink, okay?"
With those words, Reiger changed his breathing.
"Inhale— Exhale—"
When the thunderous sound of breathing emanated from Reiger’s body, Kajit and Clementine both took notice.
They sensed that the atmosphere around Reiger had changed.
It was as if his entire being had merged with the night of the full moon, as if a luminous moon had risen behind him, Reiger exuded a quiet, mysterious and serene aura.
However, Kajit and Clementine felt an unprecedented fatal crisis emanating from this moon-like Reiger.
"Little Kajit!"
Clementine couldn’t help but scream, her normally composed face twisting at the sight of Reiger.
"Kill, kill him!"
Kajit immediately ordered loudly, directing the numerous zombies, as well as the two skeleton dragons, to charge at Reiger.
The zombies ran in packs, stirring up a tumultuous and chaotic sound with their footsteps.
The thick limbs of the skeleton dragons hitting the ground made the earth tremble and raised dust into the air.
Their roars turned into sound waves, sweeping across the entire cemetery.
At that moment, the cemetery transformed into a battlefield, a place where legions charged.
Their impressive charge was directed at only one enemy.
He stood alone against the multitude of undead, his figure appearing so slender.
He faced the roars of the undead, faced the onslaught of noise, his clothing fluttering and undulating.
But his spine was straight, and his silhouette was undoubtedly imposing.
"Full Concentration·Moon Breathing—"
The sword, seldom drawn from its sheath, was slowly pulled out.
One by one, arc-like crescent moon blades began to appear on the drawn sword.
Reiger swung the moon-blade in his hand towards the ferociously charging undead legion.
"Seventh Form·Dire Mirror·Moon Reflection."
In the next instant, a moonlight-like sword light appeared.
It was a fan-shaped slash, directed towards the approaching undead legion.
Like an impact wave carrying crescent moon blades, the sword light traveled along the ground, accompanied by many arc-shaped smaller shockwaves, striking against the multitude of undead.
"Boom!"
With a thunderous boom, the sword-storm swept through countless undead, blasting them away.
"Roar!"
"Ahh!"
The number of zombies, at least over a hundred, were cut to pieces by the blade-wind’s impact, turning into debris that whirled into the air.
"Roar!"
The two skeleton dragons too were hit by the blade-wind, enveloped by the intense light as if struck by a nuclear blast.
They began to crumble.
They began to disintegrate.
By the time the sword-storm left five deep ravines on the ground and upturned the earth in front of the temple, they had been obliterated, vanishing without a trace.
"Aaaaah...!"
Kajit was also thrown by the shockwave, tumbling across the ground in a sorry state before hitting a tombstone, breaking it apart.
He personally witnessed his undead legion being annihilated, saw his very own prideful skeleton dragons shattered to bits, and let out a loud cry.
"No! This can’t be possible!"
"How could over a hundred and fifty zombies be destroyed in an instant?"
"How could skeleton dragons be pulverized with a single strike?"
"This can’t be happening!"
"Impossible!"
In the midst of the howling gale, Kajit screamed hysterically, resisting everything he was seeing.
This was no fault of his.
Even if it were someone else, witnessing this scene would be disbelieved, found astonishing.
Especially the skeleton dragons, which not only possessed absolute magical resistance, able to completely nullify magic of sixth tier and below, but being made of bone, they were resistant to slicing, and resistant to piercing attacks.
Blunt force from a club would be more effective against skeleton dragons; slicing attacks should hardly damage them with their bony structure.
Yet now, two skeleton dragons were slain by a single strike from Reiger, along with the over one hundred and fifty zombies, all turning into victims of the Sword-storm.
