Chapter 497: 455 Personal Time Magic
The vast council hall was filled with a murderous aura emanating from Revin, transforming into a tangible pressure that made the air itself heavy and oppressive.
"Brother-in-law!"
Feeling the murderous intent from Revin, Ridton was petrified and immediately started crying out and shouting in Revin’s direction.
"It’s not my fault! It’s not my fault, brother-in-law!"
Ridton appeared to be trying to argue his case.
"Not your fault?" Revin laughed bitterly in anger and said, "Yes, you did not directly participate, but you were fully aware of the ’good deeds’ your son was doing, yet you chose to cover them up and even actively defended him. Does that not make you complicit?"
"But, but he is my son! Brother-in-law!" Ridton, with tears streaming down his face, said, "He’s also your nephew, you practically watched him grow up. Even if he really did commit some outrageous acts, could you actually bring yourself to kill him?"
Revin’s response to Ridton’s argument was extremely cold.
"Why not?" Revin said icily, "Forget about a nephew, even if he were my own son, if he dared commit so many outrageous acts, I would still personally sever his head!"
Kazi, Axel, and Diego simultaneously nodded in agreement.
Only they, being Revin’s biological sons, understood that Revin was indeed capable of such actions.
After all, from the time they could remember, they had been thrown into battlefields by Revin to train, and if they accidentally died in combat, Revin might grieve, but he would never regret his actions.
For Revin believed that to truly excel, one must go through all kinds of hardships; smooth-sailing conditions would never foster real talent.
Revin’s own life was testament to this; from a young wanderer, to becoming a Swordsman, and then a seasoned Swordsman wandering across the continent, it wasn’t until he had become a Sword Saint that he reached fulfillment. Only then did he accept a noble title from the kingdom and settled down to guard the borders against foreign enemies.
With such experiences, Revin was naturally not the kind of elder who would spoil children, allowing them to bully others or be arrogant due to their status.
His mindset was somewhat similar to that of an old-school military man who firmly believed in the principle that ’spare the rod, spoil the child’ and that one could not become successful without discipline.
Perhaps, it was because of this outlook that he had overlooked the reality of having some vicious relatives.
When Revin learned of Ophelit’s actions, he felt both incredulous and deeply anguished.
"I know I’m not someone adept at managing territories, merely a brute who knows how to wage wars and engage in constant battles; that’s why I handed over power, entrusted you vassal nobles of the Meipros family to manage different cities on your own."
"But now the result has shown me that I was wrong, not everyone can be trusted, and not everyone acts with the same principles as I do."
"I can understand why you would indulge your own son, but I will never condone it, not to mention the ’good deeds’ you’ve done over the years yourself. It’s true what they say: ignorance is bliss."
Revin’s words, like sharp swords, pierced through Ridton, causing him to shudder repeatedly.
The reason Ridton, Earl Hadi, was rolling in wealth wasn’t entirely without cause; accepting bribes and embezzling funds were definitely among his frequent activities.
It wasn’t just him either; the local nobles of Meipros territory were doing the same.
"So many people mysteriously disappearing, not just those near Karudy but also near other cities, and even the kingdom’s army under the Meipros family command has seen personnel vanish."
"Now it’s confirmed that people from your side disappeared because your son traded them away. Therefore, who else is trading away the missing persons from other areas?"
"And who within the Meipros family dares to engage in such trades, going so far as to involve the army?"
With every question raised, Revin’s murderous intent grew more intense.
("I will certainly get to the bottom of all this and ensure that none of you escape!")
("I want to see how you plan to hide this time!")
("First, let’s start with you!")
Revin’s tone, clearly not joking, made Ridton realize that this time he was truly doomed.
Even though he was Revin’s brother-in-law and his sister was Revin’s wife, it seemed that this time no one would be able to save him.
Ridton, filled with despair and fear, inadvertently caught sight of Reiger, who was sitting to the side as if watching a play.
In an instant, all his despair and fear turned into rage and hatred.
("It’s all because of you!")
Ridton roared at Reiger in fury.
("If it weren’t for you, none of this would have happened!")
("You are the cause of all this trouble!")
("I’m going to kill you!")
As he bellowed these words, Ridton suddenly lunged towards Reiger.
("Stop!")
Seeing this, the three Kazi brothers were shocked.
("Damn it!")
Revin swiftly grabbed the sword of the rebel by his side.
("Master!")
Liz snapped out of her daze, sensing the threat from Ridton, and without hesitation, she stood in front of Reiger to protect him.
However, fast as they were, they were not as quick as Reiger.
As Ridton surged forth in a rage towards him, Reiger remained calm and simply extended his hand.
("[Time Stasis].")
The most unbreakable magic in the world, activated.
