Chapter 492: 450 The Rise of Ancient Humans_2
"It’s not that it’s impossible. It’s not that you can’t take anything away from here, nor is it a land of treasures, although it does indeed hold some secret treasures and perilous forbidden items. Since it’s a temple, we’re in the habit of accommodating believers, so we often engage in such things,"
This much could be discerned from the fact that Maya was willing to bring those deceivers who had fooled her into this place.
If the temple were truly a treasure vault, an absolutely prohibitive and significant location, she would never have allowed a group of strangers to enter.
While the temple is indeed a sacred and solemn place, it is also the place that welcomes prayers the most. If it wasn’t for being deceived before, Maya wouldn’t be so reluctant and resistant to letting people in.
Under such circumstances, Maya began to speak smoothly.
"In the past, there were those who came to the temple seeking knowledge, hoping to peruse the temple’s secret books, to learn magic and various magical techniques."
"In the past, there were those who sought treasures here, hoping to borrow the power of great secret treasures to overcome their difficulties and defeat formidable enemies."
"For these people, we’ve never advocated turning them away outright, because our god has also guided humanity, imparting strength and knowledge to them. As followers of our god, we naturally wouldn’t treat others’ desire for knowledge and wish to grow stronger as nothing."
"However, gaining without labor is not acceptable, which is something we never promote, just as the god originally only guided humans to attain strength rather than directly giving it to them."
That’s what Maya said.
"If you wish to gain knowledge and power, then you must pass the temple’s trials."
"As long as you pass the trials, and your requests are reasonable, do not involve forbidden things, do not involve religious secrets, I don’t mind you taking away some knowledge from here."
"Originally, there were some secret treasures here, but those treasures have mostly been taken away by the despicable deceivers, even most of the secret books are..."
Maya’s teeth clenched in frustration at that moment.
Revin and Nipede exchanged a knowing look and then approached Maya, seemingly ready to undertake what Maya referred to as trials.
The knights from the Meipros family stood still, quietly waiting for instructions.
As for Reiger, he had already brought Liz to the mural surrounding them.
"Master..." Liz said to Reiger in a worried whisper, "that god..."
"Hmm." Reiger had regained his composure and nodded at Liz, saying dispassionately, "If I’m not mistaken, that so-called god should be the one inside me."
Naturally, Reiger was referring to the Dimensional Cube.
Liz already knew about the existence of the Dimensional Cube from Reiger’s explanations and knew that this deity worshipped by the people of the ancient magic civilization was within Reiger, which is why she reacted as she did.
Reiger himself was also quite surprised, not expecting that the Dimensional Cube was the god of an ancient magic civilization.
This made Reiger think of the piece of beast skin that Liz carried with her.
On that piece of beast skin, an object resembling the Dimensional Cube was indeed receiving worship and prayers from the people around it.
Now it seems that must have been the ancient magic civilization’s people offering prayers to their "god."
Reiger looked up at the mural before him.
The mural seemed to depict the entire story of the encounter between "god" and "humans."
There were a total of six paintings.
The first depicted a transparent cube falling from the sky like a meteor, with a group of ragged people gesturing towards the sky in a panic-stricken manner.
The second showed a great many people gathering around the transparent cube that had descended to earth, treating it like some creature, placing all sorts of food before it.
The third depicted the transparent cube disassembling into a long staircase of light stretching into the void, with a figure being saluted by the people, stepping with determination towards the end of the staircase that led into the nothingness.
The fourth showed that figure returning from the void, descending from the staircase of light, holding a gleaming golden sword, with a radiant light emanating from their body.
The fifth depicted the bearer of the golden sword, radiant with light, leading mankind in combat against a group of towering beasts, subduing a gigantic beast beneath their feet.
The sixth fresco depicted the transparent Magic Cube being enshrined on the altar, where it received the utmost worship of all the people, with prayers and reverence illuminating the scene.
These six frescoes clearly and unequivocally illustrated the historical development of the human race within the ancient magic civilization.
Combining the content of these paintings with Maya’s recent explanation, Reiger could easily conjecture a period of history.
"Once, humanity was indeed fragile, lacking supernatural powers and left vulnerable to the ravages and consumption by demonic creatures, until the Dimensional Cube descended from the heavens, and everything changed."
"The Dimensional Cube held the power to connect to an endless array of dimensional worlds, and its arrival led the humans of that time to undertake Dimensional Travel, gaining strength from other worlds and bringing that power back to this one."
"Since then, humans in this world gained the ability to resist the demonic creatures, no longer merely prey but a life form able to thrive upon this land."
"All of this was brought about by the Dimensional Cube."
Therefore, the humans of that era regarded the Dimensional Cube as a deity, believing it to be a divine gift that bestowed upon them knowledge and strength.
"The reason the Dimensional Cube wasn’t seen merely as a tool, is probably because the influx of information into the brain during Dimensional Travel was taken by the people of that time as the voice of god, right?"
Whether it was during the act of Dimensional Travel or when assimilating unique items from a different world, the Dimensional Cube would transmit messages similar to sounds, which were received by the human brain.
To those humans, not yet fully enlightened, this phenomenon might have seemed indistinguishable from divine guidance or the voice of god.
Thinking this, Reiger began to examine the other paintings.
Liz, meanwhile, was staring at the fourth and fifth frescoes, her gaze fixed on the figure holding the glimmering golden sword and radiating light, and she couldn’t help but tighten her grip on the Moslo Sword she held close.
Seeing this, Reiger immediately understood what Liz was thinking.
Without a doubt, the golden sword depicted in the frescoes was none other than the Moslo Sword currently cradled in Liz’s arms.
Based on the contents of the fourth and fifth frescoes, it was apparent that the first person guided by the Dimensional Cube to undertake Dimensional Travel not only acquired strength from another world but also brought back the Moslo Sword.
"Could it be that this sword was actually obtained during the process of Dimensional Travel by this world’s people, assimilated with Dimension Energy by the first person to travel, and brought back from another world?"
Reiger realized this as if waking from a dream.
This could explain why the sword was so mystical and repeatedly appeared in the frescoes of the ancient magic civilization.
Because, it was the first powerful weapon obtained by the humans of this world.
So, why did Liz possess this weapon?
"What did Maya mean earlier by ’the descendant of that lineage’?"
With these thoughts in mind, Reiger’s gaze shifted toward Maya.
There, Maya seemed to have finished her discussion with Revin and Nipede and was now pointing them toward one of the temple’s doors, directing them to enter.
Revin and Nipede went inside, leaving only the knights behind in the temple, continuing to stand by.
Noticing Reiger’s gaze, Maya immediately walked over.
"What is it? Do you have a question?"
Maya asked Reiger.
After thinking for a moment, Reiger decided to ask a question.
"Do you know of the Hidden Land?"
Upon hearing this, Maya was initially taken aback, then spoke.
"I don’t know about any Hidden Land, I only know of the Land of the Beginning."
