Chapter 440: 412 Disturbed Sword Saint_2
And they all were defeated, using themselves to prove that the newly-promoted Sword Saint’s strength was genuine, without a shred of falsehood.
With a flash of lightning, defeat ensued—this reputation had become so well-known that even in the Meipros domain on the border of the Ginas Kingdom, it resonated like thunder.
Ridton considered his own strength to be formidable, and believed that he wasn’t much inferior to the first man below the Sword Saint of the Bolelei family. However, even that man had been instantly killed, and if he were to personally challenge the Sword Saint, his fate wouldn’t be much better.
In that case...
"The only option is to let my brother-in-law take action."
Ridton took out the communication magic crystal.
In the past, whenever Ridton needed the assistance of his brother-in-law, he always approached him in a roundabout way.
Although his brother-in-law was strong, he was also overly domineering. Even Ridton felt somewhat intimidated by him, and he would not dare to provoke him carelessly.
Therefore, in the past, whenever there was an issue, Ridton would first contact his sister, allowing her to influence their brother-in-law by whispering in his ear.
But this time, Ridton couldn’t wait.
"Buzz!"
As the communication magic crystal in his hand trembled and emitted a dazzling light, a subtle wave of magic power also passed through the space with astonishing speed, heading toward a faraway place.
Ridton quietly waited until a voice came from the magic crystal in his hand.
"You’re actually contacting me yourself?"
It was a voice that was incredibly composed, profound, and overwhelmingly authoritative.
The owner of the voice was the current head of the Meipros family, the lord of the Meipros domain, one of the seven Sword Saints of the Ginas Kingdom known as the Border Guardian Sword Saint.
Such a domineering person had a rather mild name—Revin Meipros.
"Brother-in-law!"
Ridton’s eyes reddened instantly.
"Call me Marquis Meipros," Revin said coldly, "I’ve told you numerous times, no matter if it’s in public or private, you must address me as such."
It might have sounded aloof, but this was Revin’s principle.
In his mind, he was first the Marquis of the Ginas Kingdom, the lord of the Meipros domain, the Border Guardian Sword Saint who defended the kingdom’s frontiers, and only then was he Ridton’s brother-in-law.
The Hadi family was still a vassal to the Meipros family, meaning Ridton was also Revin’s subordinate. Revin didn’t want to give the impression that he would give advantages to his relatives, therefore, he repeatedly instructed Ridton to always regard him as the object of his loyalty.
Usually, Ridton was mindful of this because he knew it would displease Revin.
But this time, he was simply not in the mood.
"Brother-in-law!" Ridton’s voice choked up, "Ophelit is dead!"
Revin fell silent at once.
After a while, Revin spoke again.
"What happened? Explain clearly!"
Under Revin’s unwavering interrogation, Ridton began to recount the incident to Revin.
He didn’t embellish the story or exaggerate the facts, but simply told Revin the pure truth.
In his opinion, the fact that Reiger killed his son over a mere attendant was outrageous enough and didn’t require any exaggeration.
Thus, Ridton tearfully narrated the whole incident to Revin, even mentioning that Reiger was preparing to come to Karudi to seek an explanation from him.
"..."
Revin didn’t interrupt and just listened quietly, regardless of how pitiful Ridton sounded or how loud his cries were; he simply listened calmly.
After Ridton finished recounting the entire incident, Revin spoke indifferently.
"What an act by the Thunder Light Sword Saint, to kill my nephew for an attendant. It seems he truly believes he cannot be defeated."
Although Revin didn’t show any emotion, Ridton knew from his understanding of his brother-in-law that he was definitely angered.
His brother-in-law already had a domineering way of doing things and was authoritative; although he was not unreasonable, he was also not the type of noble who would hem and haw over various constraints.
Now that someone had killed his nephew over a mere attendant, even if his nephew had been the first to harbor malicious intentions, if Revin showed no reaction, wouldn’t it damage the name of a Sword Saint?
Only then did Ridton start to exaggerate the story.
"That guy is too arrogant, thinking that just because he’s a young Sword Saint, he can look down on everyone. Knowing full well that Ophelit was your nephew, he still dared to kill him ruthlessly. He is clearly not taking you seriously!"
This conversation seemed to evoke no emotional fluctuation in Revin still.
"You’re saying, he’s coming this way with Nipede, right?"
Revin merely asked this question.
"That’s right, Ophelit had told me before that he was planning to go to Bethsaray."
Ridton hurriedly responded.
"Good," Revin indifferently said, "In that case, I shall meet this Thunder Light Sword Saint myself."
After speaking, Revin disconnected the communication, causing the magic crystal in Ridton’s hand to dim.
"Excellent!" Holding the communication-use magic crystal, Ridton said with a mix of joy and rage, "Now you’re as good as dead! Reiger Brillhaut!"
As Ridton was roaring thus, suddenly, a voice echoed in the hall.
"That’s not necessarily the case."
The sudden voice startled Ridton, who was overwhelmed with intense emotions, causing him to jump.
"Who...!?"
Clutching his sword, Ridton forcefully turned his head, looking toward the source of the voice.
"It’s me."
A swordsman with a rigid face resembling a corpse appeared silently in the hall, before Ridton.
It was Jack.
"You?"
Ridton certainly knew Jack.
This was the man who had been following his son for years; Ridton couldn’t possibly fail to recognize him.
He even knew a bit about the shady deals that were always going on between Ophelit and Jack and had chosen to turn a blind eye to them.
So, Ridton knew, knew that Jack’s origins were mysterious.
"What are you here for?" Ridton said through gritted teeth, "Weren’t you with my son? Why is my son dead while you are still alive?"
This statement, resembling the venting of anger, did not disturb Jack.
"Under those circumstances, if I had stayed there, I would have certainly died," Jack said expressionlessly, "So, after the people I sent there died, I immediately retreated."
"...In other words, you abandoned my son to death?"
Ridton released a murderous intent.
"Don’t glare at me like that, Lord Hadi," Jack said, as if feeling nothing, still expressionless, "Even if I had taken action then, young master Ophelit would not have escaped death, the outcome would not have changed."
"Instead of dwelling on things that can’t be changed, let’s talk about how to deal with that Thunder Light Sword Saint."
Hearing these words, Ridton narrowed his eyes, filled with murderous intent.
"You also want to deal with Reiger Brillhaut?"
Ridton tentatively reined in some of his murderous aura.
"That’s right," Jack said coldly, "He has already learned some of our affairs from young master Ophelit’s mouth and destroyed several of our precious samples. The people behind me judged that he could have an impact on what we are planning to do, so, we have decided, if necessary, to eliminate that Thunder Light Sword Saint immediately."
"Do you have that level of power?" Ridton asked skeptically, "Even if he’s just a youngster, he’s still a genuine Sword Saint, right?"
"That is our business," Jack said, "I’m here to simply ask you, do you want to cooperate?"
"What we want is simple, you could easily produce that, couldn’t you, Lord Hadi?"
Upon hearing this, Ridton gave Jack a cold look.
"Good."
After a while, Ridton consented.
"We’ll collaborate."
Jack then nodded in satisfaction.
"A wise choice."
