Two people lay on the bed, Nan Zhiyunj fully embraced in Yu Jingchen's arms. The room was so quiet that they could hear each other's breathing. Nan Zhiyunj had never experienced this feeling before.
Even so, it couldn't overcome Nan Zhiyunj's fear of the dark surroundings. Her hands began to clutch Yu Jingchen's clothes, perhaps still a bit afraid, she only dared to pull them slightly.
"It's okay," Yu Jingchen said, one arm around Nan Zhiyunj, the other reaching out to hold her hand. He discovered that Nan Zhiyunj's palms were sweating.
"Don't be afraid," Yu Jingchen didn't know why Nan Zhiyunj was afraid of the dark, nor how to comfort her.
Perhaps gradually accustomed to Yu Jingchen's embrace, Nan Zhiyunj's courage slowly grew, and she even actively snuggled closer into his arms.
Yu Jingchen naturally held her tighter. Nan Zhiyunj's body trembled slightly from fear, but it was also possible that because Yu Jingchen was there, she was deliberately trying to control herself.
Sensing this, Yu Jingchen gently patted Nan Zhiyunj's back with the arm around her, trying to alleviate her fear.
"There's nothing to be afraid of, don't be so nervous," Yu Jingchen kept reassuring her.
Perhaps this method was effective, as Nan Zhiyunj gradually relaxed. Her tightly closed eyes slowly opened, but her hands still hadn't let go.
Yu Jingchen's embrace was warm, and he exuded a sense of inexplicable security. Perhaps it was a psychological effect, but Nan Zhiyunj's fear slowly dissipated. However, it was still impossible to say she was completely unafraid.
"Still scared?" Yu Jingchen asked.
"Mm..." Nan Zhiyunj's voice was very soft, and if one listened carefully, they could still hear a tremor in her tone.
"Why are you so afraid?" Yu Jingchen inquired.
"I was afraid of the dark when I was little, very afraid," Nan Zhiyunj replied to Yu Jingchen.
"No reason?" Yu Jingchen asked.
Nan Zhiyunj did not answer this time.
"You don't want to answer?" Yu Jingchen's tone was calm; he didn't get angry because Nan Zhiyunj was unwilling to reply.
"Your Majesty, forgive me," Nan Zhiyunj said, indicating she was unwilling to say more.
"Never mind, I won't force you. Go to sleep," Yu Jingchen did not compel Nan Zhiyunj to speak.
"Thank you, Your Majesty," Nan Zhiyunj said, nestling in Yu Jingchen's arms, her voice muffled.
Yu Jingchen said no more, but the arm around Nan Zhiyunj hadn't loosened. She was quite tired today, and her fear gone, Nan Zhiyunj soon fell asleep.
Yu Jingchen also began to feel sleepy, but in the latter half of the night, Yu Jingchen was woken up by Nan Zhiyunj.
Nan Zhiyunj's breathing was uneven, and she clutched her abdomen, her condition seeming unusual.
"Nan Zhiyunj?" Yu Jingchen called her name.
But Nan Zhiyunj didn't answer.
"What's wrong?" Yu Jingchen asked, then slightly propped himself up.
"Your Majesty..." Nan Zhiyunj's voice trembled.
"What is it? Does your stomach hurt?" Yu Jingchen saw Nan Zhiyunj curled up, looking quite pained.
"Someone, bring a lamp!" Yu Jingchen called out. Immediately, someone entered.
With the lamp lit, Yu Jingchen clearly saw the cold sweat on Nan Zhiyunj's forehead, her hair damp, and her constant clutching of her abdomen, looking extremely uncomfortable.
