Chapter 121

To ensure Tantai Yue’s safety, Qin Xuan told her to stay home for a few days while he took over at the company in her stead.

Upon arriving at the Hong Yan Company building, the security guard recognized Qin Xuan and let him pass with a mere glance. Qin Xuan frequently picked up and dropped off Tantai Yue, or brought her lunch, so the guard was familiar with him. Most employees also knew who Qin Xuan was.

An unemployed man, who relied on his wife to support him. His wife ran such a large company, yet he was a good-for-nothing who did nothing all day. His daily tasks involved picking up his wife from work and bringing her lunch. It was a sad state of affairs for any man.

Qin Xuan’s name had spread throughout the company. Many employees gossiped about him in private, though it never reached Tantai Yue’s ears.

“Alas, our company is doomed. We haven’t secured a single cooperating raw material supplier in days. I suspect we’ll be bankrupt in a few more,” one employee lamented.

“Who could agree more? Director Dong is such a good person, young and accomplished. I believe it’s her useless husband who’s dragging our company down,” another chimed in.

“I’ve been looking for new companies to send my resume to. If I don’t find a backup soon, and our company collapses, I won’t even be able to afford instant noodles,” a third worried.

“What a pity for Miss Tan’s company. It’s barely been open long before it's about to fail. Looks like I’ll have to find a new job again.”

Numerous employees gathered, discussing their woes. As Qin Xuan stepped into the office building, he overheard their chatter. Noticing movement, they turned to see Qin Xuan and immediately fell silent, casting him disdainful glances.

Qin Xuan paid them no mind. This was his wife’s company, and he didn’t want to cause her any trouble. As for those who spread gossip, ignoring them was the best approach. Their mouths were their own; let them talk. It wouldn't hurt him in the slightest.

“Ahem…” Qin Xuan cleared his throat and announced, “Tantai hasn’t been feeling well recently and is recuperating at home, so I’ll be managing the company for her for a few days.”

Though the employees had their reservations, Qin Xuan was, after all, Miss Tan’s man and family. They couldn’t say much. However, causing him some trouble was still an option.

A slightly taller supervisor, holding a stack of files, approached Qin Xuan with an arrogant expression. “Mr. Qin, I’m feeling unwell today and need to take a few days off. This is the financial report for this month, the company’s losses, and the employees’…”

This supervisor, named Gong Chang, was a senior executive transferred from the Li Group headquarters by Wang Yuyan previously. Although his salary had increased after being moved from a large corporation to a smaller company, Gong Chang harbored some resentment. After all, a large group offered far more prospects than a small company. What use was a higher salary in a small company with no future?

Gong Chang chose to stay because Miss Tan was exceptionally beautiful. Seeing her at work every day was a visual pleasure, and he could fantasize. Perhaps he could even poach her from her useless husband in the future. Today, however, seeing Miss Tan’s useless husband taking her place at the company displeased him greatly.

Gong Chang promptly handed over all the company’s recent difficulties and problems to Qin Xuan, tasking him with their resolution. In Gong Chang’s eyes, a man like this, who had never even done the work of a junior employee, was incapable of handling such matters. He assumed Qin Xuan would merely say a few pleasantries and then beg for his assistance. Gong Chang envisioned this scenario quite favorably.

However, Qin Xuan didn’t play along as expected. He took the files, a slight smile on his lips, and said, “Alright, your health is most important. Since you’re ill, go home and rest well. I’ll handle these issues. You can leave now.”
