Song Wenzhi ignored Chen Lu’s mother. He half-turned towards me, his knees almost touching my thighs. I recoiled, annoyed by the prospect of physical contact with strangers, especially men. Who knew how dirty he was?
“Young Master Song, what is it you want, staring at me like that?” I asked indifferently.
“Want you!”
“Who are you calling out, you?” My face darkened.
“Want you!” Song Wenzhi pushed his luck.
“Little Song, don’t push it too far,” Chen Lu’s father said unhappily.
Song Wenzhi tilted his head, glancing at Chen Lu’s father. “If you make me unhappy, I’ll want you too!”
“Insolent!” Chen Lu’s father rose in anger, grabbed his wine glass, and splashed it towards Song Wenzhi.
Unexpectedly, the young man was quite agile, dodging to the side. He flicked away the drops of wine splattered on his suit lapel and sneered coldly, “Chen Jianguo, you dare splash me? Believe it or not, I’ll make sure you can’t even leave your house tomorrow morning. I’ll make your Chen family have a funeral tomorrow for the joyous occasion today.”
Chen Lu’s father’s face turned red and then pale, mirroring Song Wenzhi’s words.
He hadn’t been this agitated when he was being insulted, but now, Song Wenzhi was clearly threatening his life!
However, Chen Lu’s father didn’t dare to confront Song Wenzhi further. He sat back down silently. The other members of the Chen family didn’t dare to breathe, and even Chen Lu cowered, lowering her head and biting her lip tightly, her fingers digging hard into the side of my belt.
Seeing the suffocating atmosphere, Chen Lu’s mother quickly resumed her placating smile. “Oh dear, Young Master Song, please don’t be angry…”
Song Wenzhi picked up the wine glass of the fox spirit, as if to drink, but then casually splashed it onto Chen Lu’s mother’s face. Chen Lu’s mother wasn’t as agile; she didn’t even react before her face was doused. Wine drops clung to her long false eyelashes, smearing her makeup. Chen Lu’s mother gaped, clueless. Seeing her mother humiliated, Chen Lu finally lost it and grabbed a wine bottle from the table.
Song Wenzhi, with a vulgar grin, even extended his head. “Come on, smash me! Smash me right here!”
Chen Lu raised the wine bottle high. After trying for a long time, she still couldn't bring herself to strike.
Song Wenzhi raised his face. “Smash it! If you smash me today, I won’t be able to leave this door—Damn it!”
Chen Lu looked at her hand in confusion. The wine bottle had disappeared. She then looked at Song Wenzhi. A long gash had appeared on his forehead, bleeding profusely.
I put down the wine bottle and calmly smiled at the others at the table. “Everyone saw it, didn’t you? He asked for it. Dressed up like a gentleman, Song Wenzhi, I’ve never seen anyone with such a fetish in my life. If I don’t satisfy you, I’d feel truly sorry!”
“Go to hell!” Song Wenzhi clutched his head and cursed me. “You’re dead! I’ve never been hit by anyone in my life!”
“My apologies, Young Master Song,” I feigned a bow of apology. “I’m late! If I had come to the Northeast earlier, I would have beaten you long ago!”
“Go to hell! You wait! Don’t you dare leave! Damn you!” Song Wenzhi, covering his head, cursed and swaggered out of the hotel.
Only then did I notice that all the guests were watching us, paying more attention than they had to the wedding.
“Um, Xiao Wu, Lulu,” Chen Lu’s mother, not caring about the wine on her face, frantically took out a bank card from her bag and put it into Chen Lu’s hand. “You two hurry and leave! Take your passports and go abroad to lie low!”
“Auntie, I don’t have a passport,” I said. I had never applied for one and never felt that the outside world was safer than my own country, though I rarely had the chance to spell out those two words.
“Mom, if we leave, what about you?” Chen Lu asked anxiously.
“Your father and I are already halfway in the grave. As long as you can be safe, we’ll be at peace! Hurry up and leave! If not abroad, then go south to hide for a while!”
“No need, Mom,” Chen Lu said with firm eyes. “Isn’t it just Song Wenzhi? At worst, we’ll fight him to the death!”
“My foolish girl, what will you fight him with? He has a harpoon! If a real fight breaks out, we’ll be the ones to die, and we’ll be the ones to be broken!” Chen Lu’s mother cried anxiously.
“Mom, don’t worry! I have my ways!” Chen Lu said.
