Chapter 116 The Princess Who Escaped from the Castle

Song Xi woke up feeling dizzy and weak, unable to move her limbs.

She looked around at the unfamiliar environment. It was clean, tidy, and everything was placed in an orderly fashion, reflecting the owner's habits.

Her clothes had been changed for her; she was wearing a loose men's t-shirt that faintly smelled of clean laundry detergent.

The injury on her foot had been bandaged, but walking still sent piercing pain through her.

Before she could fully regain her senses, she heard doors opening and closing outside.

Then, footsteps approached, and the door opened with a soft click.

"You're awake!"

Lu Chenyu's eyes lit up. He habitually pushed his glasses up his nose and walked to Song Xi's side, squatting down to neatly place slippers by her feet.

"Are you feeling unwell anywhere? Does your foot still hurt?"

Song Xi recalled what happened before she fainted, her voice hoarse: "...You saved me?"

"Eat breakfast first."

He reached out to help her up, but she deliberately dodged him.

"No need, I can do it myself."

Lu Chenyu didn't insist. He watched her frown as she took each difficult step, his eyes filled with concern.

She finally made her way to the dining table, her complexion easing slightly. Leaning on the edge, she slowly sat down, looking at the fried dough sticks and soy milk on the table with no appetite.

Lu Chenyu poured a bowl of soy milk and placed it in front of her.

Song Xi said, "No need."

"Ah, right, you just woke up. You should have congee. I'll go make some for you!"

"No need..."

Before she could finish speaking, Lu Chenyu had already walked directly into the kitchen.

As soon as the range hood was turned on, it was almost impossible to hear anything else.

Song Xi sighed and looked at the date and time on the wall.

Eight o'clock. It seemed she had only slept for one night.

She didn't have her phone, so she didn't know what the current situation was.

Who were the people from last night, and why did they want to harm her?

And... Lou Yuming, did he know she was in trouble?

Song Xi's mind was in a mess.

She cupped the mug and took a sip of hot water, trying to calm herself down.

Lu Chenyu took half an hour to cook the congee.

His cooking skills were good, and he stayed by it the whole time. The congee was cooked to perfection, aromatic and appealing, piquing Song Xi's faint appetite.

"Try it, be careful, it's hot."

Song Xi felt that his words were more numerous than usual.

She took a small sip and met his slightly brightened eyes, still offering a compliment: "It's delicious, thank you."

The light in Lu Chenyu's eyes seemed to brighten further.

"Then drink more."

"Why were you there yesterday?" Song Xi was anxious now and had no mood to savor the food. After a sip, she put it down.

Lu Chenyu suppressed the disappointment in his eyes and said, "I was there having dinner with a producer. I happened to see you on my way back."

That was quite a coincidence. But thankfully he was there, otherwise, it would have been trouble.

"Song Xi, are you in some kind of trouble?"

Song Xi was also pondering the question. Who had she offended?

However, those two men clearly didn't have the guts to kill her. Otherwise, as soon as Lu Chenyu appeared yesterday, they would have fled as if afraid of being caught.

"Did you call the police?" Song Xi asked.

Lu Chenyu shook his head.

He didn't know what trouble Song Xi was in. Although he had wanted to call the police immediately, he held back to avoid causing her any further trouble.

"Thank you."

Song Xi breathed a sigh of relief. It was a good thing he hadn't called the police. If the other party was truly wealthy and powerful, it would not only implicate him but also cause her to lose her advantage.

Since the plan failed, it meant there would be another attempt.

She would play the long game and see who was targeting her from behind the scenes!

"Where is the dress I was wearing?"

Lu Chenyu blinked and then got up, heading to the bedroom to retrieve the cleaned dress from the closet.

The dry cleaner had said the dress was a haute couture piece from a fashion show, and it was quite expensive, costing him about half a month's rent to clean.

Lu Chenyu felt it was worth it.

The image of her running in the dark of night yesterday lingered in his mind.

She was like a princess escaping from a castle, disheveled yet stunningly beautiful.

Dark, alluring, dazzling.

It was a scene that could shock anyone.

As a director, Lu Chenyu wished he could sketch it immediately.

Song Xi took the dress from him and, seeing his dazed expression, frowned.

She thought of something else and asked him, "Did you change my clothes?"
