Chapter 252: Expansion policies
"They really are driving me like a slave, aren’t they?" I couldn’t help muttering to myself after the meeting was over.
They wanted me to expand, but it wasn’t as if it was that easy to expand in this place that was filled with barbaric and crazy people.
The only thing that they understood was force...
Still, I knew that it was indeed the right time for me to do this. After all, everything had been stabilized after the Iron Fist Gang incident.
They weren’t going to bother us since there were plenty of other things that they had to deal with on their side. So before they could turn their attention back, we should become stronger.
To do that...
"It’s strange that you would come to see me on your own." Vanessa said with a teasing smile on her face.
I didn’t say anything even though it was clear that she was having fun at my expense.
Instead, I just sat down and took a look at the different reports that were piling up on her desk.
Since I had become the chief of this town, there were many things that Vanessa had taken over for me. She had stopped working at her father’s bar and had basically become my secretary who took care of all the small things for me.
If it wasn’t for her doing all of this, I really wouldn’t have known what would have happened to the town.
But since she was the one that was in charge of the town, if I had something that I wanted to do, that meant that I had to report it to her first. So if I wanted to expand the town by capturing more resources, then I would have to discuss it with her first.
"What is it that you want?" Vanessa no longer looked like she was teasing me.
She looked at me as if she was just waiting for me to say what I wanted to say.
I wasn’t surprised that she could see through me like this since I had been very poor with how I had been hiding it. Anyone would have been able to see through me if they looked closely at me.
So after taking a moment to gather my thoughts, I said, "I want to lead an expedition to capture a few resource spots for us and expand our town."
Vanessa narrowed her eyes to look at me when she heard this, but I could tell that it wasn’t because she was against what I had suggested.
Rather, it seemed like she was thinking over this suggestion.
After a while, she finally said, "Alright, I understand where you’re coming from. However, I do need to take a closer look at what kind of resources you are planning to capture and how many people will be needed to excavate it."
This was all expected, which was why I had already prepared all the documents.
In these documents were reports on wild areas that were filled with beasts.
That was just how it was in the wilderness.
There were only a few places that were suited for people to live in, most of the other places were occupied by wild beasts.
So if the humans or other races of this wilderness wanted to create more space for themselves, the only thing that they could do was reclaim these places.
There were several spots like this that were around our town and those were the places that I wanted to capture.
After reading through the reports that I handed her, Vanessa gave a nod to show that she understood what my thoughts were and that she supported me.
The spots that I had picked out contained a bunch of resources that would be useful to the development of the town. Especially since there were all those refugees that appeared because of the attacks on the villages by the necromancers.
That meant that most of these people weren’t exactly good people to begin with.
There were some that were just innocent people that were caught up in this, but they were able to escape because the necromancers weren’t looking to eliminate everyone that they found.
The necromancers only took care of the ones that were involved in the terrible things in the places that they swept through, but they didn’t touch anyone that had their hands clean.
It wasn’t as if they were murderers that killed everyone, they only killed those that deserved to be killed.
So there were plenty of people that came to our town for refuge.
Once we took them in, it was only natural that we would find places for them to work.
These new work sites would be the perfect places to put them to work.
After a long silence, Vanessa finally asked, "How do you plan to claim them?"
"I’ll do it myself."
Vanessa was surprised to hear this since she wasn’t expecting me to step up like this.
Since I had taken over as chief, it wasn’t as if that meant that I would do everything for the people of the town. I would protect them and ensure that they had a place in these wilderness, but that didn’t mean that I would do everything.
So it wasn’t as if Vanessa could just have me take care of whatever she wanted.
Hearing that I was willing to do it myself, Vanessa suddenly revealed a smile before saying, "Since you’re this willing, there’s nothing else for me to say. I’ll leave it in your capable hands."
A faint smile appeared on my lips, but I didn’t say anything since she had already given her agreement.
The only thing left for me to do was take care of these places.
It would also be a good chance to test how strong my body really was after bathing in the dragon blood.
I never had a chance to do so since there had been no real fights during this time.
But now that there was an enemy, it was the perfect chance.
