Chapter 300: Chapter 300 A Day Instead of Forever
While I was lost in my thoughts, I failed to realise Damon had turned to face me. His dark eyes fixated on me.
By the time I felt warm breath fanning against my face, my mind snapped back to the present. I gasped from the sudden closeness, I stepped back instinctively, shocked as I didn’t notice him walking towards me.
Damon’s arms wrapped around my slender waist. "Where are you running to?" His voice was hoarse and low but his words were clear.
I looked up to his brooding stare. His eyes were dark but beautiful like the night sky, pulling me into their depths. I tried my hardest not to drown in the abyss of his eyes.
Now that I was standing closer to him, and the dull glow of the candles casting warm hues on his face, the lightning from the storm illuminating the room, making his face paler and his features visible, he looked strikingly handsome, manly yet my eyes fell on the dark circles beneath his eyes.
His once piercing and blood-chilling eyes stared back at me with warmth I never knew existed in them.
Unconsciously, I reached up to grasp his cheeks. Damon stiffened at the sudden touch. His eyes were swirling with satisfaction mixed with surprise.
"If I were to die maybe in a month’s time, and I happen to be Ember... would you rather spend that short time with me or would you prefer to stay so you won’t end up hurt after I’m gone?" I asked unconsciously.
His breath hitched hearing my words, his eyes searched mine tentatively, as if the confirm if they were just curious questions, or the truth.
"Ah, s-sorry." I stuttered, immediately retracting my hand as I realized what I had done. Abruptly, I turned to flee from him.
However he reached out to grab my hand, and he pulled me closer before I could run. He placed my hand back on his cheeks. "I felt cold the moment you took your hands off my face..." He looked at me with lovey-dovey eyes.
A smile formed on his lips, even when a flicker of fear crossed his eyes. "I would rather spend a day with you rather than spend centuries without you." He moved closer to me, leaving almost no space between us, his voice was like whiskey, intoxicating and dangerous, the kind that burned slowly down your throat yet left you wanting more.
"Damon..."
He pressed his middle finger over my lips. My eyes widened, as his warmth seeped into my skin, firing every nerve, and causing my heart to beat a thousand beats in seconds.
"Shhhh," his words brushed over my ears like a velvety feather, soft and warm. "Listen to me..." his gaze hardened in seriousness.
His fingers moved to my cheek, gently caressing it before moving to trace the line of my face. "Don’t ever make a decision for me when it comes to love, and don’t think that staying away from me or giving me a cold shoulder is best for me..." His voice cracked.
"If there are any obstacles between us, I would rather us stick together, and face it head-on. I would rather love you with all my body, my soul, and my heart for a fleeting moment, than forever without you... And I want you to know I would go hell and beyond to have you back... even if it means selling my soul, Ember."
"I’m not Ember..."
"Shhhh," he pressed his finger over my lips again. "I’m not done talking." His eyes seemed to be lost in the brilliance of my ocean blue eyes.
"I know you are Ember, you can’t fool me... only Ember would wail like you did over her sister’s death like that. I did that to test you, I know you would look for them if they were really you." His words were like a punch to my gut.
"Damon..."
"I don’t blame you for wanting to hide it from me. I know I failed you as a lover, a master, and your mate. I was blinded by my hatred that I failed to see the rare gem before me. Ember..." His voice deepened with emotion. "I’m sorry for letting you go through everything that you did, please give me a chance to right my wrong. I missed you so much that I lost my mind."
I let out a shaky breath. ’So much for wanting to hide it from him... but if I deny it, maybe he will believe he was wrong.’
"Ember," My name rolled out from his tongue perfectly. "You are the ember in my life, I thought it was just dust of flames, until you sparked something inside me, engulfing me in a sea of flame, a burning fire of love and desire."
"Damon, I’m not E-Ember, I don’t know what you are talking about... A-And don’t forget I’m your master, I can punish you for this." My words did not come out very convincing. Maybe I was tired of arguing, but I felt something strange inside my chest. I didn’t know how to confront him as Ember, after everything he had done.
"Lies," his eyes moved to the side of my neck, his fingers brushing the side of my neck, where an undefined mark was, I flinched as bolts of shivers ran through me. Confused by my reaction, he lowered his head only to find the mark.
"This mark on your neck... is it my mark?"
His question jolted me out of whatever feeling I felt before, I pulled away from him with the speed of lightning, clasping my hand over my neck, my breath came out shakily and adrenaline rushed through my veins.
I blinked, overwhelmed that he saw the mark. "Fuck." I cursed under my breath, as I realised I hadn’t covered it up before leaving the bathroom, and the dress had a deep round seam, exposing my neck.
Damon’s brows furrowed in confusion, I bet he must be wondering how a mark could form when my wolf hadn’t awakened when he bit my neck months ago.
