Chapter 293: Chapter 293 The Price (3)
His ear-splitting howl tore through the air. And I couldn’t help but cry along with him... my hand moved to my chest... and I wondered if even my heart was enough to compensate him.
I really didn’t know how to feel... I was the same thing that destroyed all that he had... A Chosen.
Damon bowed his head, cradling her and his baby close. Blood soaked into his skin, but he didn’t care. He just held them like that... rocking her gently, as if she might wake up if he did that.
My chest clenched tightly at the pitiful view... the two women who ran uphill to escape danger ended up sacrificing their lives... and in the most brutal way.
Sadly she never woke up. Tears streamed down from the corners of his eyes.
And the hill was silent again, except for the soft cries of a child.
"I’ll find who did this. And I will rip their throat out..."
Before he could finish his words the young Anastasia came out from behind the tree. Her eyes were swollen, her clothes and wings were stained with blood. She still held the small dagger which was slowly dripping with blood.
Damon stiffened the moment his eyes fell on her. A deep ferocious growl rumbled from his chest, then he bolted to his feet.
His eyes ran over young Anastasia before settling on the dagger in her hands.
"Did you do this?" His voice was low and calm, but it was only calm before a storm.
Young Anastasia let go of the dagger, it made a clanking sound the moment it reached the earth, she held her hand to her chest.
"I’m sorry, it was... it was the only way," she muttered under her breath.
"It was the only way?" Damon’s hands trembled, his voice wavering.
He walked towards the princess. The princess took a few steps back, until her back pressed against the bark of the tree.
"You killed my mate and my child? Not only that... you killed my brother’s mate too?" His claws elongated slowly.
I turned to the human woman... ’she was his brother’s wife... what a sad calamity.’
Young Anastasia broke down in tears. "It was the only thing I could do... I had to do it... Prince Damon, it was for the good...ugh..."
I gasped as my eyes widened in horror. But what was I expecting?
Blood dripped down the princess’s mouth. She slowly looked down, four sharp claws pierced through her stomach to her back, injuring her wings.
"I told you, I will cut you piece by piece if a war happens. And you dared lay a finger on my mate?!" He twisted his claws in her stomach. He didn’t want her to die quickly... he wanted her to feel the pain he was feeling.
The princess’s face contorted with pain. Her hands held Damon’s claws in place. "I have wronged you kind greatly... I have wronged you." More blood splattered from her lips. "For this I’ll compensate... I’m not the goddess moon you served. But I am like a goddess too... I will bless you with a second mate... Ugh..." she groaned in pain as my younger self dug his claws deeper into her.
I turned to Princess Anastasia. "What do you mean by a second mate? Is that me?" My voice was barely more than a whisper.
Deep down I wanted her to say no, that I wasn’t related to their feud. However, I knew the chances were higher.
Princess Anastasia smiled sadly. "You are the second mate I promised him."
"Why would you do that? Why does it have to be me? Do you know how much I suffered? Am I the one who is supposed to torment for the sins you committed?" I burst out in anger.
I hate Damon but deep down I still love him. And I wished we had never met with my kind of background... and I thought it was fate... but I was nothing more than a COMPENSATION!
"I will not have a second mate!" his growl made me watch again, Princess Anastasia refused to answer my question.
The princess laughed, more blood spilling from her lips and stomach. "You are the last of your kind, Damon." My younger self turned to the baby in Ethan’s mate’s arms. "He is not a Lycan... yet. Your brother’s mate is human... it will take a while before his Lycan blood gets awakened... if it gets awakened."
"Shut up!" Damon yelled ferociously, he tried to remove his claws so he could shut her up, but his claws were stuck in her stomach. "Magic," he growled in annoyance
"Like I said I will bless you with a second mate... but because you can hardly see the good in person... she will become something that will make you challenge your morals. Just a quick warning... with the blessing comes a curse." Her voice lowered. "As my apology to you, my magic will protect you, making you stronger than before... king Damon. I am deeply sorry for what I have caused you." she whimpered in pain.
"To hell with your gift!" Damon pulled his claws out, before cutting the princess’s head off with them.
The moment the princess dropped to the ground, her blood began to float in the air, before entering the golden tree. The blood of Emelia and Ethan’s mate also floated towards the golden tree.
Damon stared at it completely perplexed. He had no idea what was happening. Then the princess’s body began to disintegrate into flakes of embers. It floated in the sky circling the tree, the body of Emelia and Ethan’s mate began to disintegrate too.
They drifted in the sky before entering the golden tree.
I stood stupefied, tears dripped down my cheeks slowly. So I was nothing more than a moral challenge for him. And with the blessing came a curse? Does that mean I came with a curse too? Why did I have to go through all this because of someone else’s mistake?
