Chapter 447: 443, can I trust you?

The celebration banquet for Beatrice Hargrave was held at a private club located quite a distance from the city center.

Nicholas Croft had booked the entire venue, giving all the performers and staff the day off except for the waiters.

However, Titus Zane couldn’t make it in the end. He received a phone call from Jon midway, informing him that he was injured and in the hospital. With strangers nearby, it wasn’t the right time for details, so he quickly asked Mia Foster to explain to Beatrice Hargrave before hurrying off.

At that time, Titus Zane and Mia Foster were both in one car, while Nathan Moore and two brothers were together. When they arrived at the club’s entrance, they only saw Mia Foster getting out of the car alone. Nathan hurried over to ask where Titus Zane had gone.

Mia Foster had no choice but to tell the truth and informed Nathan Moore about Titus Zane receiving a phone call and leaving in a rush. Then, this guy who cared only for women and not friends quickly briefed Felix Shaw and Evander Lancaster with a few words before driving off to follow Titus Zane.

Apartment, hanging up the phone, Titus Zane fell into deep thought.

Still wearing the outfit from the concert, he leaned on the sofa, clutching the phone tightly in his hands, staring blankly ahead.

Jon had been in a car accident, which seemed like a normal traffic incident, but it was anything but. After being revived from emergency treatment, Jon received a threatening letter.

A nurse handed it to him personally— a note that read, "Stay out of it if you don’t want to lose your life!"

Of course, Jon didn’t tell Titus Zane about these things. Over the phone, he kept apologizing to Titus Zane for taking his commission but failing to clarify the situation.

However, he did reveal an important piece of information to Titus Zane: Nicole Zane and her father had a lifelong private agreement that the Zane Family did not approve of. The reason Julian Zane had the capital to start his business from scratch was that Nicole Zane risked smuggling arms to profit him for the company.

As for what caused Nicole Zane’s death later and how their current mother, Ariana Evans, came to know their father and married him, Jon didn’t mention.

But in the end, Jon promised her that despite the tremendous difficulties, he would not let her down.

If Titus Zane initially had doubts when Abigail Zimmerman said that Nicole Zane was killed by Ariana Evans, now with the increasing obstructions in Jon’s investigation, Titus Zane felt that the past events were definitely not that simple.

Abigail Zimmerman warned Jon, and that Uncle Li also reminded himself not to inquire further into the past. Titus Zane couldn’t figure it out—what exactly happened back then that made this high-ranking official with a military title so tight-lipped?

Lost in thought, the doorbell rang abruptly, snapping Titus Zane back to reality. He turned his head to look at the apartment door.

The bell continued ringing, and after a moment of hesitation, Titus Zane stood up and pressed the intercom button next to the door.

"Who is it?" It shouldn’t be Wesley Foley; he knows the code to the apartment building’s main door.

"Titus Zane, open the door, what happened?"

Nathan Moore’s handsome face appeared on the small screen, looking very anxious.

After a moment of thought, Titus Zane pressed the door release button. Right now, he yearned for a solid shoulder to lean on, even if it was just temporary.

In less than two minutes, Nathan Moore was already at the door, not even entering before embracing the woman who was standing by the entrance.

"What happened? Why do you look so terrible?" Nathan Moore’s handsome eyebrows knitted tightly, one arm wrapped around Titus Zane’s waist, and the other gently stroking his long hair from behind his head.

Titus Zane slowly lifted his head in a mechanical movement.

Meeting Nathan Moore’s visibly concerned eyes, he said, "Nathan Moore, can I trust you?"
